hen Rosalind turned ve years old, thealiens came to speak to her.

Tis was rather a surprise. Until that mo-ment, Rosalind hadnt known that aliens existed at all.

Tere are lots o aliens on Earth one explained. Big

tall purple ones, little yellow ones with our arms.Round blobby ones and awkward ones with rocklikeskin. Lots o dierent kinds o aliens come to liveon Earth. But they all want to keep hiding in secret. Some disguise themselves as human beings and getjobs or go to school, like regular people. Some otheraliens hide in places people rarely go, like in the sew-ers or deep in the orest.

But the aliens have a problem. Tey dont really un-derstand human lie or how the planet Earth works.

So the aliens decided to get an ambassador, a nativehuman to help them deal with lie on Earth. Rosa-lind was designated that ambassador, while the resto her amily was sent to important posts on ar-oplanets. (Rosalind can call her amily on a specialspace telephone, so she doesnt miss them too much.)Te aliens sent three aliens to pretend to be her par-ents and older brother, but these aliens are as cluelessabout lie on earth as all the other aliens are.

When an alien misunderstands how something sim-ple like eating or riding the bus works, they can causea lot o problems. Te ambassador helps the aliens

    when they getinto trouble.

The gameTis is a game or one child and one adult. Te childwill play Rosalind, while the adult will play aliens, other humans, and anybody else.

First, we write down some things Rosalind is good at(You can get an adult to help with the writing i youneed.) Write down three things that shes better atthan most girls her age. Is she a fast runner? Goodat puzzles? Always kind to animals? Verybrave?Write 1d10 next to the thing that shes best at, and

1d8 next to the other two.

Ten write down one thing Rosalind isnt so good at.Write 1d4 next to that.

Rosalinds parents and older brother have beenreplaced by aliens impersonating them. Write theirsecret alien names down. I you want, you can alsodescribe them a little bit.

    Rosalind is ready to play!

Doing thingsWhen the child player wants Rosalind to try some-thing dicult, she rolls a die. I its something thatRosalind is good at, then roll the die listed next tothat thing. I its something shes not so good at, thenroll a d4. I its not on her sheet, roll a d6.

Look at the result, then consult the chart. Te adultplayer will describe what happens as a consequenceo the action. Te adult players response should takethe orm specied, augmenting or modiying thechild players suggestion as appropriate.

Higher results are better, while lower ones are worse. But dont worry! even a minor setback can be dealtwith with an eventually overcome with some hardwork and a bit o cleverness.

You rolled...6+ Yes And...5 Yes, Exactly4 Yes, but...3 something unexpected!2 No, But1 No, and it creates a new problem

Something unexpected means a surprise twist.Ninjas burst into the room, or the alien ray gun turnsyou into a turtle! Maybe someone uninvolved stum-bles onto the scene, or animportant item goesmissing. Te adultplayer declares whatunexpected thingshappens, though thechild player is ree tosuggest ideas.

other peopleAnyone that isnt Rosalind gets played by the adultplayer. Tese characters are called Non-playercharacters or NPCs. Te adult player will have to

gure out what theyre like and stu.

Aliens and other NPCs get one thing that theyregood at at 1d8, and one thing theyre not so good atat 1d4. For aliens, they should have weird abilities

like squirts out sticky goo 1d8 or sixth sense canlocate missing socks 1d8. Teir 1d4 traits are likelythings that humans do just ne, like no feet 1d4or cant remember anything that happened beforetoday 1d4. Aliens also have diculty understand-

ing some basic human concepts, like eating ormoney or linear time. Its Rosalinds job to

try to explain these things to the aliens andhelp x things when they cause problems.

(You want to make the aliens good trait tonot relate to their problems. I they couldsolve their own problems, then the wouldnt

    need Rosalinds help.)

what can an arcturaneat on this planet?

Alien ProblemsAliens come to Rosalind or help when they haveproblems. Sometimes this is because the aliensweird biology prevents them dong a normal hu-man thing. Sometimes the alien misunderstoodhow human society worked and messed somethingup. Whatever the cause is, the alien needs help, and they want Rosalind to provide it.

Beore each time you play, the adult player shouldcreate one or two aliens with problems or Ro-salind to solve. For each alien, write down onephysical limitation that they have and a problemthat they have because o this. Ten write down ahuman concept that they do not (can not) under-stand, and write a problem that arises because othat. Write two more problems that the alien hasas a consequence o these other situations (pre-erably combining some o the other problems

    together).

Tis is the list o problems that Rosalind needs tosolve or the alien. When she rolls a 5+ while per-orming an appropriate action, then the problemcan be solved. Cross solved problems o the list. Results o 4 or lower won solve the problems, thoughthey can transorm the problem into new problems ormake even more trouble or the alien. And watch outor rolling a 1! It will create a new problem to go onthe list!

I you solve all o an aliens problems, then you canadd that alien to the list o alien riends that Rosalindknows. Maybe in later adventures she can call onthat guy or help, like she can her ake alien amily.
