When creating our radio news broadcast, we have used different type of research methods such as: We used the Internet (secondary research) to look into existing radio show and found out statistics. We were listening to existing radio show because it has helped us identify the format and style and gave some inspiration. During our production stage, we found the research was very helpful because it allowed us to follow the guidelines and create it to a near professional feel. When creating our radio news broadcast, we have used different type of re-search methods such as:

We used the Internet (secondary research) to look into existing radio show and found out statistics. We were listening to existing radio show because it has helped us identify the format and style and gave some inspiration.

We could have used Rajar (Radio Joint Audience Research Limited), which is an organisation that compiles and gather the audience measurement in the United Kingdom.

We have used primary research methods such as focus group and survey to get some feedback from the audience to discover what their likes/dislikes were and we improved our show after getting it.

To find sound effect for our radio news broadcast, we had to find suitable mu-sic that would relate to the audience, for this we have used sound cloud and YouTube; I have used cross fades for the sound effect on logic so it gradually fades in and out, so it sounds corrects and follows conventions.

I feel that these resources have helped us to improved our radio show be-cause it has allowed us to identify who the target audience and how best to appeal to them.

During our production stage, we found the research was very helpful because it allowed us to follow the guidelines and create it to a near professional feel.

Whereas if we didn’t do any research, we would have found it difficult to cre-ate, as we wouldn’t have known the style or tone and the format might not have been wrong. When discussing with my group, we had found some improvement, for exam-ple I could have expanded on the news, as it would have appealed to the au-dience more.

We should have written a better script, by having more sport news as we only focused on football, if we had improved we could have had a more of a vari-ety, which will appeal to everyone. When we were recording, we did not know our script which mean it difficult to record and took it longer, however we knew our script, it would have been much more clearer and possibly easier to edit.

When we was creating our production for our radio show, we had made drafts of our script because we wanted to make sure that script follows our final ideas, however with a script you may not sound natural as you are just read-ing off a sheet of paper.

We have created a survey regarding our initial planned radio show, we had received feedback from the audience and had made improvement from this.

For example they wanted us to have a variety of music genres to be played throughout the whole day.

We had used logic to edit our radio news broadcast because it allowed us to correct our mistakes such as if we stuttered, laughing and background sound (ambient sound.)I have used logic to make sure the whole mix sound balanced because some of the clips were loud and others were weak, so I had to adjust to so it will sound good overall.

When we were doing our secondary research into the competitions, we looked into the overall content for them because it gave us some inspiration, also it gave some improvement if things they didn’t do well. This helped us to work out strength and weakness for radio news broadcast as a whole.

During the interview between the presenter and artist, we felt that they should improve their tone (same volume of speech) because it will make it flow more and not sound like it is being read off a piece of sheet.

We should have written a better script, by having more sport news as we only focused on football, if we had improved we could have had a more of a vari-ety, which will appeal to everyone.I felt one of our weakness that when we were recording, I found that me and Daniel storey were stuttering and not making our voices clear, so we had to keep recording until it sounded useable, this took more edit as we had to pick the best version out of the whole recording session.I found it a little hard to edit Tamaira because during the music awards winner segment, her tone would change (energy) because we recorded a lines a few times I just to find it a suitable clip or by eq on logic.I felt that Dejhanea was very clear and confidence during her sections be-cause it meant I had to adjust the sound the down and find suitable music to be played with the intro, outro and football (sports news.)

In terms of the original plan that the group made, we did not make any amendments to it, as we were satisfied with the work that was done which was used to create the final product.

The audience felt that we should include a variety of music genres and to have the news relates to audience (demographics) so stories that apply to them. The news report (bulletin) which I did was very short, we have to included more news stories because it would have appealed to the audience more and get an variety of stories (political, entertainment, world news, business, edu-cation and technology updates.)

I felt that the news content was not suitable for the radio show, because it was very short and included 2 only news stories, we have included more stories to get a variety. The tone of stories were serious, however I feel the tone of my voice was as not serious as it should been because it doesn’t sound great.

The BBC news track behind my voice helps you understand that it is news be-cause I forgot to do an intro for the news like I have should.

For the strongest technical qualities about the podcast (radio broadcast) such as:

Convention used• National• Related to news• Wraps (intro/outro)• Voiceover-over speech (track)• Headline• Two ways

We have used wraps which is our intro and outro, which are recorded report that contains a journalist’s voice and nothing else.

Voiceover is a piece of narration in a film or broadcast, not accompanied by an image of the speaker. We had used a voiceover during our radio news broadcast because we had a backing track on every session because it re-lates to the tone and follows the typically convention for news on the radio.

We have used a two way, which is an conversation between the presenter and artist, this is known as line and as live. I have used a two-way conversa-tion with a background track to suit the tone because this appeals to the audi-ence.

We plan to broadcast our radio news broadcast on a national radio is a radio station, which broadcasts nationwide.

The purpose of a news headline can give a brief and quick outline of the main story of the station or show. This is effective because the headline is the first thing that people listen which could get their attention.

Content coveredThe tone of stories were not serious, however I feel the tone of my voice was as not serious as it should been because it doesn’t sound great. The BBC news track behind my voice helps you understand that it is news be-cause I forgot to do an intro for the news like I have should.

Suitability of the contentI felt that the news content was not suitable for the radio show, because it was very short 2 only stories; we have included more stories to get a variety. If we had included more stories the news would be suitable and would have ap-pealed to the audience more.

We had some research into the competitions of our radio news broadcast and by analysing existing radio show such as BBC Radio 1 and Capital FM be-cause we like their style, format and how the news is structured for example

Page 4: roopamedia2016-2017.weebly.comroopamedia2016-2017.weebly.com/.../task_6_finished.docx · Web viewThe language used in BBC radio 1 is informal radio station that is aimed at the youth

they will have a backing track on the vocals and a different presenter for each section like the news, weather, entertainment news and have variety of sports news.

The language used in BBC radio 1 is informal radio station that is aimed at the youth audience; it includes chat shows, news reports, live music sessions and lifestyle advice.Newsbeat is a news bulletin session on Radio 1 and Radio 1 extra, BBC News produces it but it is different than any news programme because was created to suit the younger audience and includes entertainment news. The fifteen-minute newsbeat programme is broadcast at 12:45 and 17:45 dur-ing the week on both of the stations, however during the day there are short news report as well.

Capital FM as an example of format and style because we feel that we can replicate this, and we are aiming for the same audience who like popular mu-sic and the style will be informal to suit the target audience. The format is a playlist of music genre such as, Urban, R&B, pop and Hip-Hop; we have mixture of music genre such as which will suit a wider target audience and the format (playlist.)

Our radio news broadcast will differ as we set ours for a specific type of brand and theme. When making a radio station broadcast are potential competitors are people that are young or around our age. The reason why we are going to be aiming at this audience because the type of language is London Slang with the use of informal tone as we are based within south East London but we aim to appeal to the whole of London.

Our radio news broadcast had to be under 5 minutes, so we had to make sure that the structure was separate into the timing, which we didn’t do at all.We should improve and made the news longer with at least 5-10 stories of a whole variety so the audience could get a insight of the national (UK) news and this would have related to the audience more.It could be argued that ethically and legally issues within the radio industry has created problem because you have to be careful what is published as it could offend someone, so you have to make sure that the content is suitable for everyone.

In terms of the legal constraints that we had to consider when we were creat-ing the radio news broadcast such as libel as we don’t want to publish false statement which could damage someone’s reputation; defamation is the ac-tion of damaging the good reputation of someone.

The official secrets act is used and created by the government because it would damage the national security, if the public knew; it makes it a criminal offence to obtain or publish any information from a serving or former member of the security and intelligence service.

Privacy law is law which deals with the use of people’s personal information and making sure it is not intruded upon. These laws make sure people do not have their information wrongly used without their permission.

Ofcom’s main job is to control what is broadcasted on TV and radio across the United Kingdom to ensure that all of the content is following with their codes, rules and guidelines. These rules are created and must be followed to protect the viewer from any inappropriate content and they shall take action against those who try to break it.Ofcom will reinforce watershed and make sure that broadcaster follows this to protect younger audience. The watershed in the UK is between 21:00 and 17:30, this means that during these hours of the evening, night and early morning the content of TV/radio shows could become more adult orientated.

Editing techniques used:

LevelsBring down the levels to zero dB and then bring them up one by one to make sure that the mix is balanced.

EQEQ allows you to control the frequency's you can block out unwanted sound such as background noise.

ReverbI didn’t use reverb in the radio news broadcast because i felt that it would not suit the overall tone and would not sound right.Reverb is used to create an atmosphere into the track because it allows you to create an slight echo effect.

Cross fadeDragging over the start or end point of an audio track will creates a fade in or fade out. The length of the faded area determines the length of the fade; so a longer dragged area will mean a longer fade time, and a shorter dragged area, a quick fade.

CompressionCompression is often used to make music sound louder without increasing its peak amplitude. The amount of gain reduction is determined by ratio: a ratio of 4:1 means that if input level is 4 dB over the threshold, the output signal level is 1 dB over the threshold.

I have used this effect because it has allows me to change the dynamics of the vocals. I had experimented with this effect, for example natural voice makes it sound clear

The compressed voice puts compression on the vocals and it lets me control the compression with the dynamics effect felt this with this effect it start to clip so I decided not to use it.

I have used the compressed vocal effect onto the sound effects as it let me control the volumes, also i had included some automotion to lower it more be-cause I wanted the vocals to be clear and to have clarify.

I feel that our radio news broadcast is not fit for purpose to be distributed on a professional radio station because the news is too short and will not appeal to the audience. However, the rest of our product (radio News broadcast) is fine is useable to be played in a professional radio station as it follows the format.

In conclusion, if we could do this again I would improve by writing a better script, by having more sport news as we only focused on football, if we had improved we could have had a more of a variety, which will appeal to every-one.

I felt one of our weakness that when we were recording, I found that me and Daniel were stuttering and not making our voices clear, so we had to keep recording until it sounded useful, this took more edit as we had to pick the best version out of the whole recording session.

This was our initial idea was to just play hip hop on our radio station but after we sent out surveys and after we created our focus group, we found out that our target audience wants more gene of music such as grime, Hip-Hop and R&B. However, the audience felt that we include a variety of music genres and to have the news relates to audience (demographics) so stories that ap-ply to them.I found it a little hard to edit Tamaira because during the music awards winner segment, her tone would change (energy) because we recorded a lines a few times I just to find it a suitable clip or by eq on logic.

I felt that Dejhanea was very clear and confidence during in the radio show because it meant I had to adjust the sound the down and find suitable music to be played with the intro, outro and football (sports news.)

The news report (bulletin) was very short so we had to included more news stories because it would have appealed to the audience more and have an variety of stories (political, entertainment, world news, business, education and technology updates.

Audience feedbackI have uploaded my edit for the radio news broadcast onto souncloud, with this I could improve it to appeal to the audience more. When conducting feedback from the audience, I feel that it is best to get at least 3 comments because it lets me understand how the audience would re-spond it to.
