Project Pitch – Sam Drysdale

• University Northern Iowa Computer Science On-line submission system

• Currently is a very basic and bland submission system • Often times leaves user confused if submitted correctly

• I would l like to make it so you can view the assignment that you turned in

• Professors also could comment on the assignment for additional feedback

• Users: Computer Science Majors / Computer Science Professor• A lot of features that we could add to make the interface much better

Page 7: Roommate App

Self Introduction – Sam Drysdale

• Skills:• Used different software to design GUI’s• A lot of ideas to add to the on-line submission

• I am very busy with football so I am available after 7 pm during the week. Saturdays not available but Sundays are available.

• I am a very hard worker that takes pride in quality work

UNI WEBSITE FOR USED BOOKS

• PROBLEM: UNI STUDENTS PAY TOO MUCH FOR THEIR BOOKS AND GET LITTLE USE OUT OF THEM. THEN THEY DON’T RECEIVE ENOUGH MONEY BACK WHEN THEY SELL THEM BACK TO PANTHER SUPPLY.

• USERS:

– UNI STUDENTS TRYING TO BUY BOOKS FOR FUTURE CLASSES.

– UNI STUDENTS TRYING TO SELL OLD BOOKS.

REASON TO BE EXCITED: I’M SURE EVERY STUDENT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. IT COULD BENEFIT A LOT OF PEOPLE.

Decision Maker• What is your problem, concept, or need that needs to be

met?• You are trying to figure out where to eat, what game to play, what

movie to see, or whatever. You can’t decide what to do, and neither of you want to make the bold move just to deiced. My vision for this design is any variable amount of people can choose to input 5 restaurants, games, movie, etc. The program will determine if there are any similarities, if there is it will choose from that refined list, if not it will randomly select an option.

• Who are the users?• couples, large groups of people, indecisive people

• Why should your classmates be excited by this idea?• I’m pretty sure everyone one has been in the instance where a

group of people cannot make a decision form them self, and no one is willing to make the bold move to make the decision for the entire group. This will solve that idea

Cross-Platform Game & Movie Organizer and Suggester

● An application to help organize and suggest games or movies to people who own many of either, but still have nothing to watch/play.

● Users should be able to enter information about their mood and interests and have a program suggest a movie or game that could potentially interest a person in order to help them find something to do when they have the problem of too much to chose from.

● Users: Anyone that enjoys spending time with games or movies, but specifically for those who have trouble deciding what they want to do.

● You should be excited about this because many people have this issue and this could really be helpful for people, including myself.

I’m a creative and dedicated worker. I work well with others and enjoy group work.

I expect my group members to do their part in the time we are allowed and to not be afraid to ask questions/discuss ideas to help with their work.

People should be excited to work with me because I’m an optimistic person that won’t bring down the group and will do my part. I am also genuinely excited about this project, so I’ll be more than ready to start and do what I can.

• Concept – Ease the preparation, organization, and running of a video game tournament. This could be an application that could be used to keep track of match entry, matches won/lost, next match, overall standing and bracket placement. This concept could be extended to include various verification devices (various biometrics or in-app capabilities) that ensure both player and tournament organizer would have a good experience.

• Users – Tournament officials, gamers interested in competing in tournaments. Would include an ability to register directly to the system in the absence of a smart phone.

• Shopping list/ store map• Can be difficult to find items that you need in

large stores• It would give specific locations for items that

you have on your list via an interactive store map

• Would give suggestions for similar items or items that other customers also had on their lists. EX) if you had hotdogs and buns on your list it may suggest condiments

• The users would have to be smartphone owners

• I think you should be excited about this idea because it is something that has happened to everyone and it could be especially useful when stores rearrange their isles. Jonathan Meade

Want to play a game?Seth Schneider

Page 33: Roommate App

What does this project need to do?

● This will have to keep a list of all of the board games that you have

● This will have to keep a list of the steam / origin / UPlay Library

● This will want to categorize games by type of game, size, how many players, etc.

Who are the Users?

● People who are indecisive (like myself) and they can’t figure out what to play ever.

● People who want to see games organized by category and reviews because steam does an awful job.

Why should you all like this idea?

● You won’t have to stare at your library for hours on end trying to figure out what to play

● If you have friends over, you can let random chance decide for you when no one really cares what is going to be played

● It will be well organized, and make it easy to find the games you want.

Seth Schneider

Page 34: Roommate App

What Experiences / Skills do I bring?

● I play board games / computer games a lot so I know what I would like to see in something like this.

● I dislike unintuitive software, so I’d like to make something good.

What Expectations / Constraints do I have?

● I’m busy, so when work needs to get done, it needs to get done.

● I don’t like people who coast along without helping.

Why should you be excited to work with me?

● I like to have fun and keep things light hearted, I don’t take things too seriously.

A La Carte Cable

The biggest problem I have with cable is that I have hundreds of channels that I don’t and have never watched. To me, it doesn’t make sense that I should have to spend money on things I don’t use.

What I want to design is something called “A La Carte Cable”. This would be a program that would allow you to scroll down a list of tv channels, shows, or movies, and pick exactly which ones you want. After picking a channel, I would like a menu that allows you to choose the quality you would like that channel in.

Finally, a last menu would allow a user to pick how long you want the channel for.

This is an idea that could be used by every person who is like me, has cable hundreds of channel, but only ever keeps the tv on 3 or 4 of those channels. My classmates should be excited because I know I can’t be the only college student that would like to save money on tv

Self Introduction

1. I have been studying computer science for only a year now, which means I don’t have much programming skills. What I consider to be my strengths is in designing. If given enough time, I think I would be able to design a very simple, user friendly interface for this A La Carte Cable technology.

2. As previously mentioned, my biggest constraint would be programming things on my own. I can look at code and understand what is happening, but when I have to write it myself I tend to over or under think things because I don’t understand all the requirements.

3. People should be excited to work with me because I am reliable and work hard to get my work done.

Project Pitch1. What is your problem, concept, or need that

needs to be met?People want to travel, but some can only do so on tight budgets and may not know exactly where they can travel to on these budgets. My concept is to create an app and/or website to provide trips that are tailored and personalized to the user like an interactive travel agent. The user will select their budget, interests (museums, beaches, etc.), dislikes, cuisine, number of travelers and kinds of travelers (families, couples, single) etc.

2. Who are the users?Anyone who would like to travel.

3. Why should your classmates be excited by this idea?I know a lot of college students would like to travel more, so this could possibly help to provide them with a more information on great affordable vacation.

Self Introduction

1. What experiences/skills do you bring to the table?I’m usually the one who plans our family trips. I have used multiple different apps to get the information I need, so I think it would be useful to have all this information available in one place for the user.

2. What expectations or constraints do you have?I expect to have constraints with making the design of the questions/users input concise and not overwhelming.

3. Why should others be excited to work with you?I’m a great team player and very open minded to others ideas. I also tend to think of myself as creative, so I could bring that to the table.

Project Pitch: Game Manager/Finder Will keep track of users online video games and board games

Keeps track of the library of games (wide variety) that you have to play

Will ask users what games they currently want to play

Will show comparisons of games that you own with other people

Will pair up users with other people who want to play the same games as you to play together

Primary users would be mostly be gamers who want to play with others or people who want to categorize or organize their library of games in one convenient spot

Potentially exciting as you get to play the games you love more often and with more people!

Pitch idea-1.The idea: A pretty simple concept, a cooking app where you input the ingredients you have on hand and the app recommends recipes based on those ingredients.

2.Intended users: Those who might not be very experienced at cooking, or people just looking to be resourceful and/or a bit adventurous in their culinary pursuits.

3.Why should others be interested in/excited by this idea?I know that many college students, myself included, are by no means master chefs.A lot of the time, we might make the same things to eat over and over again, and after a while it gets tiresome. An app like this might help to slowly grow one’s cooking skills.

WHY YOU SHOULD BE EXCITED TO WORK W/ ME.

Marcus Devens

Because I am always smiling. I laugh at everyone’s jokes even if they’re not funny. I build people’s confidence. I will always be a text message away. You can always talk to me but I might not always be listening. I care. I’ve made it this far so I must be smart ;) Did I mention I have a great sense of humor?
