A power-assisted four-link steering sys-tem and other design improvements result-ing from 20 years of development work byToro make its new 220-0 intermediate sizetrim mower highly maneuverable andproductive. The company has increasedhandling ease while lowering maintenancedifficulty with its compact, liquid-cooled trimmower.

The 220-0 has 23-inch front drive tiresfor increased riding comfort, better curb-climbing and better traction. The 20.5 hp,three-cylinder Mitsubishi diesel engine iscooled by a mid-mounted industrial radia-tor. The PTa drive shaft is controlled by aneasy-to-change electric clutch.

The turf manager has three cutting deckoptions with the 220-0. He can choose 52-inch, 62-inch or 72-inch widths. All rotarydecks feature full flotation cutting units withcasterwheels, anti-scalp rollers, skids andanti-scalp blade cups. Height of cut is easilyadjusted in one-half inch incremenets fromone to four inches. A new counterbalance(deck weight transfer) system allows pre-

Providing simple, accurate measurementsof static and dynamic pressure and flows,the SAK-2 System Analyzer Kit by Rain Birdis an easy- to-use, dual purpose pres-sure/flow gauge kit for use in designing newirrigation systems or troubleshooting existingsystems.

The SAK-2 can be used to estimate avail-able operating pressure and flow capacityof a new system or to measure flow andpressure at the sprinkler head. has developed a way to vigorously cultivatecompacted soil without severely damagingthe turf above. Four-inch-Iong blades spacedfour inches apart slice into the root zonecutting tangled roots and shattering hardsoil layers. A vigorous side-to-side quakingaction loosens the soil opening it up to air,moisture and nutrients.

The 60-inch-wide Turf Quaker can beoperated by tractors with 30 to 65 hp and540 rpm power-take-off. The GX-20 is a ruggedly constructed smallpickup for campus, golf course or park lighthauling jobs from Chikusui. Less than 48inches wide and ten feet long, the vehiclecan carry a payload of nearly 1,800 pounds.Loads are easily dumped with the hydraulictipping bed.

The two-passenger GX-20 can reach atop speed of 22 mph and climb 30 degreeslopes with the power provided by a 16 hptwin-cylinder gasoline engine. A syn-chromesh transmission with dry-plate clutchprovides four forward speeds and onereverse. Four-wheel drum brakes stop thevehicle quickly even when fully loaded.

RIDING AERATORJ

Clean, vertical-coring action and varia-ble core spacing are two major features ofthe new Ryan GA-30 riding aerator. Theoperator can change the core spacing any-where between 21J2 x 1 inches to 21/2 x 5inches with a hand lever while aerating. De-pending upon the tines and soil condition,the aerator can penetrate up to 33/4 inchesdeep. At the five inch spacing the GA-30can create 11 holes per square foot overa 28,000 square foot area in an hour.

An 18 hp Kohler twin-cylinder engine pro-vides power to the hydrostatic drive whichallows the operator to maneuver the aera-tor without shifting gears. Maneuvering isalso simplified with a pedal-operated lift forthe aerating head. Transport speed for theGA-30 is six mph.

Operator comfort is provided by a pad-ded seat and steering controls isolated withrubber from the chassis. The throttle, chokeand ignition switch are within easy reach.

Case-hardened steel tines are availablein four sizes, from 3/8 inch to 3/4 inch. Ashear bolt protects the tines and aeratingmechanism from damage by solid objectsburied below the surface. Five lubricationfittings require only seasonal maintenance.

The mower is available with either an18 hp twin-cylinder Onan gasoline engineor e. 16.5 hp three-cylinder water-cooledKubota diesel, both on anti-vibration mounts.The Onan has an aluminum block with castiron sleeves. The drive is a true hydrostat-ic, closed-circuit which requires fewer valvebanks and hydraulic pumps than other sys-tems for lower maintenance.

The reels are independently operated toallow back lapping or raising individual cut-ting units completely off the ground. Thisallows multiple mowing patterns without turfdamage from dragging reels during turns.All reels, carriage frames, catchers and reelmotors are interchangeable.
