RONDEBOSCH VS SACS 1ST XI
Rondebosch travelled to SACS on
Saturday and batted first on a
decent track. Milligan had the
Bosch skipper, Matthew
Christensen, trapped in front early
on but Keagan Langford (27) and
Murray Commins batted fluently
against the seamers to put Bosch
in a comfortable position on 91 for
1. The SACS spinners, Ebrahim and
in particular, Robert Newby,
bowled well and Newby got the
breakthrough bowling Langford.
Newby continued to put the batsmen under pressure and picked up another three wickets to turn the game
around with the visitors on 125 for 5. Gavin Kaplan (44) then joined Commins at the crease and the pair put on
a partnership of 124 to take Rondebosch to 249 for 6 after 66 overs when the declaration came.
Commins continued his rich vein of form
to finish on a masterful 151 not out
including 15 fours and 6 towering sixes.
Despite benefitting from some indifferent
catching, Murray scored all round the
wicket, taking on the spinners whenever
he was afforded the chance. He has,
since the start of the year, scored 786 runs
at an average of 87.33!
SACS appeared to have little stomach for
the fight in their response with only two
batsmen getting to double figures.
Dayyaan Galiem, in his last game before
leaving for the U19 World Cup, picked up
3 for 17 and all the other seamers picked
up wickets to have SACS dismissed for 68
in just 26 overs, giving Rondebosch victory
by 181 runs.

After narrowly beating Paarl Boys last week, in a fixture that went right down to the final over to determine the
victors, the Kings were eager to build on that momentum and put in a strong performance against tradition
rivals SACS. After winning the toss and rightfully putting SACS into bat, the boys duly delivered and were ruthless
with the ball which set the foundation for a comfortable victory. With clouds hovering above the ‘Fortress’ of
Meadow B, the opening spell of Davids and Jacobs proved to be very tight and restricted SACS’ scoring
opportunities, which enticed unnecessary risks from the opposition. Davids and Jacobs were each rewarded
with a wicket and went at no more than two runs per over, respectively. First change bowler, King, kept the
pressure on with some tight lines, which allowed Cragg and Isaacs to do the damage and rip through SACS’
middle order. Between Cragg and Isaacs, SACS lost six wickets for a mere five runs: Cragg ending with figures
of 4/5, and Isaacs with 2/0. The tale was then quickly wrapped up by Athi in his first over. It was a day in which
every catch stuck, every run out opportunity was taken and overall a very clinical day in the field by the Kings.
Besides the wicket of Hafagee, which saw his middle stump dislodged after failing to defend a ball that hit a
crack and stayed low, the Bosch run chase was quick and effective. Jono Jeffrey and Aiden Child, whom went
on to score a quick-fire 23 not out, saw the home team cruise to a convincing nine wicket victory. Well done
Kings!
“Man of the Match” – Sam Cragg for his bowling figures of four wickets for five runs.

Relishing the prospect of a 35 over game, Rondebosch
won the toss and elected to bat, despite a damp outfield
and pitch. The opening pair of Matthew Visser (11) and
Devon Arendse (26) saw off the opening bowlers with a
good deal of caution and good fortune. Matthew Visser
eventually succumbed just before drinks, while attempting
to increase, what had until this point, been an extremely
slow run-rate. Following drinks, Rondebosch lost two
relatively quick wickets. Cameron Abrahamse (66*) and
Jay Stevens (14) provided the impetus which the innings
needed and accelerated the scoring rate substantially. As
a result, Rondebosch managed a very respectable 155/7 in
their allotted 35 overs.
SACS managed to maintain the required run-rate for the
first 15 overs for the loss of only three wickets. However, two
crucial breakthroughs just before drinks proved to be the
defining moment of Rondebosch’s bowling effort and saw
SACS into drinks with five wickets down. Dane Steven’s
golden arm on the day wrapped up the tail earning him
figures of 4/10 in 5 overs and gave Rondebosch a
convincing 52 run victory.
The fielding performance however, was still far from perfect
and the team is aware that with an encounter against
bogey team Wynberg this coming week, they will need to
snap up every opportunity provided to them.
U19E
The 5ths hosted SACS on Thursday with the away side winning the toss and electing to bat. The opening
bowlers, Jodie Peters and Jay Robinson, bowled a tidy spell restricting SACS’ batsmen. However, the
introduction of the spin attack of Everitt and Giloway saw a flurry of wickets reducing SACS to a modest total of
80/7 from their allotted 20 overs. Everitt was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/16 from four overs.
The RBHS reply began steadily with Brian Bohlin and George Williams adding 17 for the first wicket. Williams and
Giloway departed shortly afterwards and together with Whitton, Bohlin began to dispatch the bowling attack
to all corners of the ground and added 55 for the third wicket to see the 5ths home with an eight wicket
victory. Bohlin finished with a superb 52 not out which included seven fours and a six.

Saturday saw the U15A team take on our traditional foe, SACS, in a declaration fixture at Lower Desert. Some
overnight drizzle was enough to convince SACS to put us in to bat. Our assessment of the wicket, however,
differed vastly from theirs and we would’ve elected to bat regardless.
The day started on a difficult note as we lost Mat Ginsberg on the first delivery of the day. John Murray and
Nick Giger saw off the new ball in completely contrasting ways. Murray opted for complete consolidation,
placing a huge value on his wicket, while Giger took the attack to the bowlers. We lost Giger for a well-played
42 just before drinks and, as is often the case, one wicket brought about a mini-collapse in the middle order.
Khaleel Tayob applied himself diligently and was unlucky to be removed by a complete “jaffer”. Duminy
played a fluent thirty before throwing his wicket away. A valuable 30 partnership between Fuzail Dawood and
Suhaid Ajmodien restored some parity as it almost looked like we were going to be scuttled for a mere 150.
Lower order contributions from bowling all rounders, Sam Alexander and Dan Moriarty, took us to 209. With a
score of over 200 we felt we had batted them out of the game, but left ourselves enough time to bowl them
out and thus opted to declare.
Sam Alexander spearheaded our attack with a phenomenal spell of old-fashioned, aggressive, fast bowling.
Sam found the perfect balance between probing on a good length and trying to push the batsman onto the
back foot with some ear-whizzing bouncers. In the absence of our in-form opening bowler, Ethan Seymour,
Suhaib Ajmodien was entrusted with the responsibility of charging into the wind. An excellent spell of
consistently hitting good areas saw Ajmodien rewarded with a well-earned wicket. The combination of
Alexander and Ajmodien proved to be a fruitful one as SACS found themselves in dire straits with a score of 8/4
after eight overs.
The introduction of spin in the fourteenth over, a common trend of this U15A side,
worked ever so well as left-arm orthodox, Dan Moriarty, bowled a wicket maiden in
his first over. Dan subsequently bowled three consecutive maidens as he varied his
flight without losing control over the good areas he found repeatedly on the day.
Able support from Nic Robinson, Fynn Wilson and Ginsberg took us to tea needing a
further four wickets for victory.
The bowling change of Joffvre Duminy broke SACS’ resolve, as Da Costa dislodged
the bails off the bowling of Duminy. Duminy struck again as Moriarty got in on the
action and SACS were bowled out for 51 runs in the process. Bosch won by 158 runs.
The chief destroyers came in the form of Alexander, ending with figures of 3/12 in 7
overs, and Moriarty, with figures of 3/7 in 11 overs.
This was by far the best performance of the season – a team effort through and
through. Sharp fielding and proper application with the bat and ball should go a
long way in proving to the boys that they are a tough team to beat.

Second game of the term and the boys were ready to play their first home game. After winning the toss we
decided to bat. We started off really well. Our innings was dominated by Matt De Klerk scoring 59 runs and
then, unfortunately, he got caught.
We then went in to field and Cal Smid had a superb opening spell, followed by Salie and Tridaux with great
spells restricting SACS to 29 runs in the first ten. We let it slip a little but Stredder and Dawood came in at the
end and shut the game out with some great spin bowling with their combined figures of five wickets for about
eight runs in four overs.
A great team performance!
U15C
U15C played SACS on Thursday (30.01.14) at SACS. After winning the toss, we decided to have a bowl. The
innings started off very well with some brilliant opening bowling from David Derman and Ross Roode. David
managed two maiden overs and took one wicket, with Ross also getting one. Then in stepped the wonder
twins: Chris Cloete and Lyle Wilmot both had a fantastic outing with the ball. Chris picked up four wickets and
Lyle got three. SACS were bowled out for 61, setting us 62 for victory.
The chase started off fantastically with both of our opening batsman getting an almost equal share of the runs
and a 50 partnership to put the cherry on the cake. The runs were shared with Michael King getting 30* and
Jason Mcleod Smith attaining 28*. The pair saw us through to the end and really showed some class out in the
middle.
An overwhelming victory in the end and what a fantastic display from the boys!
“Man of the Match” – Chris Cloete
U15D
Rondebosch hosted SACS on Wednesday afternoon and batted first. After the early wicket of Sutton,
Scheepers (19) and Corder (42*) rebuilt the innings leaving the away side requiring 87 to win in 20 overs.
The Rondebosch bowling attack set about the batsmen taking wickets at regular intervals with all the bowlers
amongst the wickets. With a tight finish likely, Windy was introduced and took three wickets in one over to seal
the victory by 14 runs.

U14A
This match was a test of character for the U14’s. On a pitch that was very slow, the Rondebosch top order
struggled to come to terms with the slow, tennis ball bounce and was soon reeling at 12/4. Jonathan Jollivet
Da Olivera came to the crease and attacked the SACS’ bowling, releasing some of the pressure. Jordan Child
(19) ably supporting him in a 48 run partnership. Rondebosch were not out of the woods yet and Tristan Cooke
showed admirable fight. His mature knock of 21 runs, together with Jack Kieswetter for the ninth wicket, formed
some sort of defendable total.
The tenth wicket partnership of 38, between Connor Colquhoun and Ryan Leatherby, added valuable runs
and it was the Rondebosch side that felt that they had the momentum after the innings closed on 154 all out in
the sixty third over.
SACS started positively but some quick thinking by the Rondebosch keeper, Kieswetter, saw the SACS opener
being run out while batting out his crease. Swanepoel created good pressure from one end and then
Leatherby took two quick wickets. A fortunate run out, off the hand of the bowler Gad to the non-strikers end,
handed over the initiative to Rondebosch.
At tea, SACS were 37/4 and Rondebosch had their tails up. A lack of focus after tea by the Rondebosch unit
gave SACS some momentum but Broad initiated the breakthrough with some consistent bowling. Child put
more pressure on and a run-out had SACS hanging on. Colquhoun was too good for the last batsmen and
Child took the final pressure catch, giving Rondebosch a hard fought win and showing that this year’s U14 side
has the character to fight all the way.

U14B
The U14B’s played host to SACS on Saturday, on North, looking to build on the previous week’s performance.
After winning the toss we lost Uwais Khan early but Josh Venter and Ashley Moir put on a good partnership
before Moir was needlessly run out. Niel Schwallenus came to the wicket and looked at ease as he rotated the
strike with Josh Venter. Venter was then dismissed for 16 after being adjudged LBW and, from then, batsmen
managed to get to double figures before throwing their wickets away. Niel Schwallenus top scored with a well-
played 43 not out as we scraped to 151/9 in our 35 overs.
SACS got off to a quick start but our bowlers managed to peg them back by picking up regular
wickets. Michael van Zyl and Jack Alt did a good job up front and were well backed up by Connor Ebbing,
Ashley Moir and Thomas Wall. Callum Cann had the batsmen in a twist and picked up 2/22 in seven overs. With
SACS reeling at 81/7 and still requiring 71 for victory, we seemed to take our foot off the pedal and allow them
back into the game. A similar comeback was experienced last week and this is something that will need to be
addressed for future matches.
In the end, SACS required 20 off the last over but only managed to pick up six resulting in a 14 run victory for
RBHS. Next up is traditional rivals Wynberg in what should be a very good game of school boy cricket.
RBHS U14A vs SACS
!
!
U14C
We knew SACS would be more competitive than last week, we lost the toss and bowled first, started off well
having SACS at 30/6, the total would have been much less if it wasn’t for all the extras, a total of 32. SACS did
well to reach a target of 70 all out. This week going to concentrate on our line and length bowling and our
fielding!
We lost early wickets and were in a lot of trouble with wickets falling and behind the run rate, the middle order
batsmen came in and Gary steadied the ship with his knock of 20 runs rotating the strike well and scoring more
than a run a ball. Darin came in under pressure towards the end and took us past the total with some excellent
cricket shots.
We eventually past the total in the 18th over with 9 wickets down, well done boys!
Get ready for Wynberg!
