Thought for the Week
Today we celebrate Gaudete Sunday. We light the pink candle on our advent wreath,
and we prepare ourselves for the joyful coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
What a great day! What hope we have in our Savior!
A Prayer as We Receive The Eucharist
Lord, as we approach You at Communion time— as we receive You in the Holy Eucharist—
help us to be more aware of Your actual Presence. It is You we receive!
As we receive You worthily, we will become just a little more like you.
(Thank you for changing us— little bit by little bit.)
Words from Pope Francis
“The joy of the Christian comes from faith and from the encounter with Jesus Christ,
the reason for our happiness……
The more we are rooted in Christ, the more we find inner serenity,
even in the midst of everyday contradictions.”
Respect Life
In this third week of Advent we meditate on the third Joyful Mystery—the birth of our Lord.
What perfect timing on this celebration of Gaudete Sunday. Gaudete means, “Rejoice”!
We ask Jesus to bless each Mom and Dad—and give them His joy—
as they await the birth of their precious little one.
A Scripture to Ponder……
“The joy of the LORD is my strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10)
Christmas Gifts!
There have never been so many Christmas gifts as there are this year! There are so many that we had to set up
another table to accommodate all of your thoughtful gifts!
A few weeks ago when we placed the tags on the ”Giving Tree”, we had a hard time fitting them on the tree.
We kept saying, “Make them fit!”—and so they all made it onto the tree. Within a week, they were all gone!
Thank you to all of our loving parishioners for making Christmas so special for so many families!
God bless you all!

Just a Thought…….
FORMED
Mary of Nazareth is an epic motion picture on
the life of Mary., Mother of Christ, from her childhood
through the Resurrection of Jesus. The film vividly
captures the essence of Mary’s profound faith and trust
in God amidst the great mysteries that she lived with as
the Mother of the Messiah, as well as her compassionate
humanity and concern for others, and the deep love that
she and Jesus shared for one another. The movie under-
scores her special role in God’s plan for our redemption,
her unique relationship with Christ, and the tremendous
suffering that she endured in union with his Passion and
Death, as well as her serene joy at his Resurrection.
A Little Humor…...
Special Thanks
Thanks to all who helped pack the
Christmas gifts last Wednesday.
You made fast work packing all
those gifts !
And an extra special thanks to our Outreach volunteers who sorted the gifts as they came in, spending the whole day on Wednesday
in the Parish Center organizing and distributing your gifts!
A special thanks to our ushers who have
transported so many gifts from the lobby to
the parish center.

It has been said that “JOY” is the flag that
flies over the castle to indicate that the king is in
residence.
That flag should fly over each of our heads
to show others that our KING is in residence in our
hearts!

FAITH FORMATION 631 821-0550
Lynn Fein, Director
Registration for our 2018-19 Catechetical Year continues. It is certainly not too late and we are always happy to welcome you back or to welcome any newcomers. Please contact the Faith Formation Office to register your child. We are also always happy to take registrations following our Sunday’s 9:30 Mass. Upon registering, families will be provided with details concern-ing our new online registration fee payment. Children who are currently in First Grade should be registered now to begin the two year preparation for the reception of the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. Children then continue with each level, growing in their faith and love of the Lord. The schedule for our Faith Formation classes is very family friendly, offering both afternoon and evening times for each level. We are always happy to hear from any families who would like to find out more about our parish offerings which enable the children, teens, parents and grandparents opportunities to increase their faith and grow closer to the Lord. We offer weekly formation for children and teens, a Liturgy of the Word for children at our 9:30 Sunday Mass year round, preparation for the sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation, a summer Vacation Bible Camp, a Youth Group and Youth Masses followed by get-togethers for seventh through twelfth graders, service opportunities for our young people, discussion and sharing for parents and grand-parents and seasonal events for the entire parish. If your child has any special needs at all we will work with you to provide the very best learning environment. We are also happy to wel-come any families with children who may have been delayed in receiving the sacraments. You are invited to call or e-mail the Faith Formation Office to discover the many ways your family can be involved, or to register your children for our classes.
Although our Catechists are faith-filled and dedicated, some-times the occasion arises when they cannot be present due to illness or a family emergency. I am currently seeking volunteers to serve as substitute Catechists for our Levels 2 through 8. We have both afternoon and evening classes with the earliest class beginning at 4:15 and the latest classes beginning at 7:00. All volunteers need to complete the VIRTUS child protection training offered by the diocese, as well as submit to a background check. If you feel called to share your own love of our Catholic faith with the children and teens of our parish, please contact me to discuss the possibility.
SAINT MARK’S YOUTH MINISTRY
FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN
7TH THROUGH 12TH GRADES
FAITH FORMATION
DIRECTOR MRS. LYNN FEIN
631 821-0550 OR [email protected]
Our last Youth Ministry gathering for 2018 will be on December 17 from 7 to 8:30 in the parish center. We will be making cookies for the young people to distribute to anyone they may feel could use a little cheering up or comfort at this particular time of year. In January we will meet on the 7th, 14th and 28th. We invite all young people from seventh through twelfth grades to join us and to bring a friend, as we share about our faith through discussions, activities and service projects. Numerous opportunities for the youth of our parish to engage in service exist. How blessed we were to have a number of young people assisting at our recently held Advent Family Night. Their enthusiasm for helping not only impressed the adults who were with us, but also served as an example for the younger children. We are so grateful to Chayse Carpino, Cara Kluepfel, Allison Lamitie, Joe Menno, Ryan Menno, Brandon Miller, James Minetti, Daniel Murphy, Carter Rubin, Alexandra Ruggero,Reegan Shea, Bella Sweet, and Steven Thaxter. A special thank you also to the parents and Catechists-Gretchen Alessi, Jeff Faragasso, Mary Keefer, Michael Keefer, Michelle Kluepful, Maria and Joe Minetti, Alice Murphy, Alonna Rubin and Mike Shea- who shared their time with us, pitched in with clean-up and helped to gently guide our volunteers.
(Faith Formation Continued)
All classes continue to engage in discussions and activities to celebrate the season of Advent, and to prepare for the coming of our Lord on Christmas. This upcoming week before the Christmas break, prayer services are held during class times, providing opportunities for all to join together in celebration of the birth of Jesus. Due to the school break, our Faith Forma-tion classes will not be meeting from December 24 through January 1. We come back together on Wednesday, January 2. We wish everyone a Joyous Christmas, forming precious memories with family and friends.
