Styles• Togas were usually worn by men and in ancient Rome.• Cloths were designed to be comfortable and to have individuality.• The women distinguish themselves from the different societies
around them, which the other societies thought the idea was unusual and un-lady like.

Colors
• The Romans used the color purple which came from a type of shellfish that came from the middle east.
• The man would have colored shoes and a striped tunic to identify that he would be the next senator
• Their togas were usually a rich, clean, white color

Fabrics
• Roman clothing were usually made of relatively heavier woolly fabric.

Patterns
• Roman clothing is similar to ancient Greek clothing but the Romans had a distinct leaf pattern.
• The toga, tunic, and the stola had a geometric pattern.
Dyeing
• The dye came from Tyre, Lebanon and was usually used by wealthy women.
• A popular tint was indigo which allowed colors yellow and blue to show.
• Red was the cheapest available dye.
Shoes
• Romans usually wore sandals but would sometimes wear leather shoes or boots.
• They also wore carlatinas which were sandals made from a piece of leather with a soft sole.

• Romans had jewelry such as brooches, hoop earrings, and herakles knots.
