We hope that all new residents will come to the Parish Center to register.
Adult Christian Initiation If you are interested in exploring the Catholic faith or completing your initiation into the Church please call
the Parish Center.
Infant Baptism Preparation If you wish to arrange a baptism at Sacred Heart Church, please
contact the Parish Center at 516-379-1356 ext.10. One of our baptism coordinators will be happy to arrange a
time to meet with you. Ideally, both Godparents should be practicing Catholics. We will review the
procedures for the sacrament and you will be able to fill out all the necessary paperwork. Baptisms are held on
the first and third Sunday of each month at 2pm in the church. First time parents need to attend a baptism
class. They are held on the last Monday of each month in the church at 7:30pm. Crying babies welcome!
Godparents are encouraged but not required to attend.
Sacrament of Matrimony Please contact the Parish Center at least one year in advance of the
intended date of the wedding. A priest of the parish will interview you, set the wedding date and help you
register for the required marriage preparation program (Pre-Cana).
Sacrament of Reconciliation A priest is available each Saturday at 4:00PM in the church.
Please don’t hesitate to call a priest at the Parish Center for an appointment for Confession at another time.
Sacraments for the Homebound If you or a family member are not able to attend Mass due
to temporary or chronic illness, and would like to receive the Sacraments of Communion, Reconciliation and/
or Anointing of the Sick, please call the Parish Center.

The Bread & Wine for this week are offered for
Anne & Frank Bernat by
Kathryn Bernat
=========================== There was a misprint in last
week’s bulletin:
The Bread & Wine for last week was in memory of Aloysius J. Gabriel
offered by Clare & Walter Shorak.
The Altar Flowers were in memory of
Sal Napolitano offered by the
Napolitano Family
Let us remember all our parishioners who have been called
home to our Loving God. We especially remember
Allan Dragos
As we come to celebrate Mass together during these winter days, it’s a good time to review some liturgical practices to help everyone stay healthy and to care for one
another.
Due to severe flu outbreaks at this time in our diocese, priests, deacons, and
Eucharistic ministers are reminded of the need to practice good hygiene prior to and after the distribution of Holy Communion.
This involves cleansing one’s hands
before Mass and when visiting people in their homes or in institutions, such as
hospitals and nursing homes. Additionally, Eucharistic ministers should
not serve when they are sick.
Also, hand sanitizers have been placed in the sign in room for our Eucharistic Ministers. They have been asked to
discreetly take care of cleaning their hands in the pew before coming up to the
Sanctuary so as not to disturb the flow of the Liturgy.
The Altar Flowers for this week are
offered in memory of
Fannie Ninfa Messana

Prayer For The Safety of Our Service
Men & Women Almighty and Eternal God, protect these men and women as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety to all who love them. May they ever praise you for your loving care.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
If the announced intention at Mass is for your intention, or if you have memorialized the
bread and wine, and you would like to carry those offerings forward at the Presentation of the Gifts during Mass, please be sure to let the ushers know this before the Mass begins. They
will be happy to have you do this. If no one steps forward to specifically
request this, then they will select people from the assembly.

Getting Ready for ASH WEDNESDAY
Ash Wednesday is February 26, 2020
The ashes used on Ash Wednesday come from the previous year’s palms. This year, we would like everyone to be a part of that transformation. Please bring your palm to church with you on February 15th & 16th and 22nd & 23rd and leave it in the baskets in the back of the church.
This palm will be burned and used for our Ash Wednesday Masses and Services.

as honoring George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The day is

When a death occurs, life, for those who live on, changes forever. The Church recognizes this change and offers hope and comfort to those who grieve the loss of a loved one. As Jesus comforted Mary and Martha, the parish community can reach out to comfort those who mourn. The Ministry of Consolation is in need of volunteers to help to assist as: Companions- who meet with the family to
help with the planning of the funeral Mass, in choosing the readings and the hymns. They also gather personal history and background information for the celebrants of the wake and funeral Mass to be used in the homily.
Altar Servers and Eucharistic Ministers-
to help during the Funeral Mass.
To learn more about this vital parish
ministry and to join our very dedicated
volunteers in this Spiritual Work of
Mercy, please contact Tanya Kasprzyk at
516-379-6123.

A note about low gluten/gluten free hosts: The church considers “low-gluten” hosts to
have enough gluten to be “valid matter.” The
F.D.A. says the hosts are low enough in gluten to be
considered gluten-free. But, those with high
sensitivity should consult their doctors.
