Down the decades – KS2 Explore fashion from the 20th century in our special displays. Make a fashion mash-up and create a fashion design based on your sketches in our exhibitions. History at the Assembly Rooms and Victoria Art Gallery

Toys of the past – KS1 – Assembly Rooms A lively 90 minute explorer session investigating and handling a range of toys from the past. Pupils find out what the toys are made from and how they work.

What did you do in the war? KS2 – Assembly Rooms Pupils will investigate local wartime life using primary and secondary sources in a building devastated by wartime bombing.

Blitzed in Bath KS2 – Victoria Art Gallery Explore paintings documenting the Bath Blitz of 1942. Pupils will produce artwork and drawings using pastel and ink.

Roman life – KS2 A 60 minute activity session which covers general aspects of Roman life. Handle Roman artefacts for either bathing, buildings & technology or cooking & food. Add 2 choices from ‘Togas & tunics’, ‘Write on’ or ‘Marvellous mosaics’.

Meet the Romans! – KS2 This 60 minute interactive session exploring history, literacy, numeracy and art is ideal for years 3 and 4. It is an opportunity to touch real Roman artefacts. Try the ‘counter challenge’ and take a view on the past.

Victoria Art Gallery

Victoria Art Gallery adventures for 3 to 6 year olds

When I grow up I want to be a ...! – Look at people and jobs in the Gallery paintings, listen to a story, follow a trail and make a self-portrait. This activity supports personal, social and emotional development.

Santa special – Get dressed up and enjoy a journey to see our special Victorian station painting. Make a 3D Santa Special train. This activity supports expressive art and design.

Key stage 1

People in the past – Are you finding out about people in the past? Enjoy exploring paintings of people from history and create a multi-media self-portrait and make it Tudor, Georgian or Victorian.

Harvest Home – Explore harvest with our special exhibition of paintings by William Scott. Create colourful images of fruit and vegetables using oil pastel and watercolours.

Key stage 2

Movement in Art – Are you exploring movement in art? Enjoy work by artists, William Roberts, Kenneth Armitage and take the chance to see David Inshaw’s ‘The Badminton Game’. Create work on play and movement and make a group piece based on a busy playground!

Creating landscapes – Look at landscapes and see methods of landscape painting by Walter Sickert and Henry Herbert La Thangue. Follow a trail, create a landscape drawing and an abstract landscape using colour and torn paper.

From real-life to abstract – Investigate the work and methods of world famous artist William Scott. Use oil pastels and paint to create a series of artworks. Play the still-life object memory game to create abstract images in your art.

Face Facts – Explore faces and portraits in this active session. Work with portraits by artists such as Johann Zoffany and Thomas Gainsborough. Use a range of media to draw portraits and produce a 3D self-portrait or a Cubist self-portrait.

Train spotting! – Enjoy trains and travel in our special exhibition (23 November to 2 February). Explore ‘The Railway Station’ painting by William Powell Frith and design a railway poster to encourage train travel.
