TUTORIAL: ROM-Update including CWM-Update

TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 with MAGLDR

A combined ROM and CWM update can be accomplished without losing any data. At the endof the process, the phone will reboot with all your applications, settings and other data intact.

Warning: Before installing a new CWM version, make sure it is capable of restoring abackup made with your current CWM version.

Warning: Before installing a new ROM version, make sure it is capable of working withdata from your current ROM version.

Outline:

Back up the existing system with CWM Install the new CWM version

Restore the existing system with CWM Use CWM to install the new ROM over the restored system Wipe caches, fix permissions, reboot

Steps:

1. Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM)a. Power off phone (remove and reinsert battery if necessary, reconnect to USB)b. Power on phone, hold <Power> button until the MAGLDR Boot menu appearsc. Select option „AD Recovery“ (this will start CWM)d. Wait until ClockworkMod Recovery menu appears

2. Use CWM to copy new ROM and packages to your SD carda. Select option „mounts and storage“ b. Select option “mount USB storage” (on the PC a message requesting you to

install a driver for “ADB” might appear, dismiss it) c. If the SD card does not appear as a drive on your PC, unplug the phone’s

USB connection, then reconnect itd. Copy the zip files for ROM (TyphooN_*.zip for MAGLDR as posted in OP of

TyphooN thread) and, optionally, kernel and other packages to SD card rootdirectory,

e. On the PC, use “Safely remove hardware” function to disconnect the SD card 

f. On the phone, select “Unmount” g. Press <Back> button to return to CWM main menu

3. Use CWM to backup your old ROM, applications and dataa. Select option „backup and restore“ b. Select option „Backup“ 

4. Use MAGLDR to install new CWM versiona. Select option „reboot system now“, as the phone restarts, hold <Power>

button until the MAGLDR Boot menu appearsb. Select option „USB Flasher“ c. From the PC, flash new CWM version (run DAF.exe)

5. Use CWM to restore the old system (ROM, applications and data)a. Select option „AD Recovery“ (this will start CWM)b. Wait until ClockworkMod Recovery menu appearsc. Select option „backup and restore“ d. Select option „Restore“ e. Press <Back> button to return to CWM main menu

6. Use CWM to install ROM and packages from SD carda. Select option „install zip from sdcard“ b. Starting with the ROM, for each package do:

i. Select option „choose zip from sdcard“ ii. Select the package’s zip file

c. Press <Back> button to return to CWM main menu

7. Wipe caches, fix permissions, reboota. Select option „wipe cache partition“, confirmb. Select option „advanced“ c. Select option „Wipe Dalvik Cache“, confirmd. Select option „Fix Permissions“ e. Press <Back> button to return to CWM main menuf. Select option „reboot system now“
