Play-Well TEKnolgoies - Engineering Fundamentals With Lego® Design and build motorized machines, catapults, pyramids, demolition derby cars, truss and suspension bridges, buildings, and other constructions. Explore concepts in physics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, and architecture while playing with your favorite creations. This is a hands-on and minds-on class suitable for LEGO® novices to “maniacs.” This class is not affiliated with the LEGO Group. 1. Play-Well TEKnologies- Ingenieria basica con Lego®Design y construccion de maquinas motorizadas, catacumbas, primaides, autos de demolicion, puentes suspendidos, edificios y mas. Explora la fisica, la ingeniria mecanica y la arquitectura mientras juegas con tus creaciones preferidas. Esta clase no pertenece a la compania LEGO. 2. Indian Co-ed Dance Students will learn how to dance to various Indian songs, including Garba, Bollywood and Bhangra. This program is open to BOYS and GIRLS. The program will teach the children coordination, rhythm,

and creativity while learning South Asian dance techniques and music. Students will be encouraged to learn, respect, and admire South Asia’s rich culture in the performance arts. Most importantly, children will have fun while dancing and will be able to express their emotions through the form of dance. Grades K-5, 8-week session for $90, Tuesdays, April 17 – June 5, 2012, 3:15 – 4:15pm. Maximum 12 students.
2. Bailes Indues Los estudiantes aprenderan a bailar al son de diferentes ritmos incluyendo Garba, Bollywood y Bhangra. Este programa esta abierto a NINOS y a NINAS. El programa ensenara coordinacion, ritmo y creatividad mientras los ninos aprenden las tecnicas de la danza y la musica de Asia del Sur. Los estudiantes seran llamados a admirar y a respetar la cultura de las artes de Asia del Sur, pero lo mas importante es que ellos podran divertirse mientras danzan, y expresarse a traves del movimiento. Grados: K-5, Sesion de 8 semanas por $90, Cada martes, 17 de abril-5 de junio 2012, 3:15-4:15pm. Maximo 12 estudiantes. $45 para niños que reciben almuerzo gratis o reducido.
3. Mad Science – learn about Secret Agent Lab this Spring! This Spring session our Mad Science session will explore parts of a secret agent lab. Students will learn about what goes on in a crime Lab and spy academy. They will learn to connect the dots using science to help solve a crime. As undercover agents, they will learn about funky Forensics as they step into the shoes of a detective—they’ll collect and analyze evidence. Whodunit? Find out using your Mad Science Fingerprint Finder. Our young scientists will have all they need to get started on their detective adventure. 3. Ciencia Loca- Esta primavera aprende acerca del laboratorio de agentes secretos! En esta secion de mad-science exploraremos las partes de un laboratorio de agentes secretos. Los estudiantes aprenderan que sucede en la academia de laboratorios de criminologia y de espionaje. Les ensenaremos a como atar cabos para resolver un crimen. Como agentes encubiertos aprenderan a implementar “Funky Forensics” poniendose en el lugar de detectives- Reuniran y analizaran pruebas. Quien lo hizo? Descubrelo utilizando nuestro programa para localizer huellas digitales- Nuesros jovenes cientificos tendran todo lo que necesitan para comenzar su aventura de detectives. 4. Creative Kids – Literature-based Drama This is a very innovative and dynamic literature based drama program. A professional actor/teacher will lead the class in exploring and dramatizing specially selected children’s stories. The students then create and act out their own original stories based on these books. These stories come from all over the world and are carefully chosen for each age group. CREATIVE KIDS introduces students to acting, increases their love of books, and is loads of fun – a perfect mix for a great after-school program! 4. Chicos Creativos- Teatro basado en cuentos literarios
Este es un programa muy innovative y dinamico de teatro basado en literature. Un actor/actriz y docente professional llevara a la clase a explorer y a representar una seleccion especifica de cuentos para ninos. Los ninos van a crear sus propios cuentos basados en estos libros. Los cuentos son de paises de todo el mundo y son cuidadosamente seleccionados segun la edad de los participantes. CHICOS CREATIVOS (CREATIVE KIDS) introduce a los ninos a la actuacion, estimula el amor a la lectura, y ofrece toneladas de diversion- Una mezcla perfecta para un programa extra-curricular! 5. Taekwondo Taekwondo is a Korean martial art, which, loosely translated, means "the art of punching and kicking." In addition to physical fitness, TKD can help foster listening skills, concentration, self-confidence, and discipline. ASK Martial Arts has been offering classes in MCPS schools for 14 years. The classes also help students develop concentration and respect, while enhancing physical fitness and the ability to defend oneself. Grades: 2-5, 8-week session for $70, Fridays, April 13 – June 1, 2012 (Belt Test JUNE 6 th at MMMC location), 3:15-4:15, maximum 20 students.
5. Taekwondo
El Taekwondo es un arte marcial de Corea, que traducido informalmente significa “el arte de golpear y patear.” Ademas de promover la actividad fisica, TKD puede ayudar a promover habilidades tales como estar mas atentos, mejorar la concentracion, aumentar la autostima, y ser mas disciplinados ASK Matial Arts ofrece clases en las escuelas publicas del condado MCPS desde hace 14 anos. Las clases tambien ayudan a los ninos a desarrollar mayor concentracion y respeto por los demas, a la vez que promueve la salud fisica y la capacidad de auto-defenderse. Grados: 2-5, 8 sesiones por @70, los viernes, 13 de abril-1 de junio, 1 (test para cinturon 6 de junio en el local de MMMC), 3:15-4:15, maximo 20 estuidantes. $35 para niños que reciben almuerzo gratis o reducido.
6. Adventures with Robots is back with new, fun classes! Each club meets for one hour, one day a week, for 7 weeks. Benefits are available for one parent aide whose child receives free tuition. (Parent aides may also choose to donate their free tuition to offer two 50% scholarships for students in need). For more info: http://www.adventureswithrobots.com. Does your kid dream of writing his own video games? We've found a great way to get started: Scratch, the super-simple drag-and-drop multimedia programming language designed by MIT's Lifelong Kindergarten project. NOTE: Scratch! is available to anyone for free on the Internet. Self-starters can learn it at home with no help from us! But if your child prefers to learn with buddies and a live instructor, sign up for one of our classes where our trained instructors will teach your child how to make characters dance, talk and boogie across the screen. Students may save work from week to week and even continue working on projects from internet-enabled computers at home. Netbooks will be used for each student to use during class. Grades: 3-5, 7-week session for $90, Tuesdays, April 17 – May 29, 3:15-4:15, maximum 12 students.

6. Aventuras con robots regresa con nuevas y divertidas actividades! Cada grupo se reune por una hora, una vez por semana, por 7 semanas. Cada grupo requiere de un padre/madre de familia asistente, cuyo hijo/a no paga para participar. (los padres/madres asistentes tienen la opcion de donar el dinero de la cuota de sus hijos para subsidiar dos 50% becas para estudiantes carenciados.) Encontramos una forma facil para que puedan empezar a hacerlo: Ustedes pueden bajar del Intenet el pograma “drag-and-drop”de lenguaje para multimedia creado por MIT, dirigido a ninos de Kindergarten. Nota; el programa puede obtenerse y bajar gratuitamente por internet. Si prefieres aprender a usar este progama por tu cuenta puedes hacerlo de esta manera; pero si tu hijo prefiere aprender con otros ninos y con un instructor, registralo en una de nuestras clases, donde uno de nuestros instructores ensenara como hacer a sus personajes bailar, hablar y hacer monerias dentro de la pantalla de sus computadoras. Es posible que los estudiantes tengan quecompletar algunos proyectos de una semana para la otra y a lo mejor continuar trabajando desde una computadora en casa. Se le asignara un netbook a CADA UNO de los estudiantes durante la clases. Grados: 3-5, 7 sesiones por @90, Cada martes, 17 de abril-29 de mayo, 3:15-4:15, maximo 12 estuidantes. $45 para niños que reciben almuerzo gratis o reducido.
7. Spanish Class Open to 4th and 5th grade students who already speak and understand Spanish, but want to strengthen their reading and writing skills, and increase their vocabulary. Students may be native Spanish speakers or in the Spanish Immersion program. The class will do interactive activities to keep the students engaged in a fun way. This class is being taught by 2 native Spanish teachers. Limit 15 students. For additional information, contact Margarita Sol [email protected] 301-346-9257. Grades 4-5, 6 weeks for $50, April 25 – May 30, Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:15pm.
7. CLASES DE ESPAñOL Esta clase esta abierta a estudiantes de 4to y 5to grado que hablan y entienden español, pero quieren mejorar su vocabulario, escritura y lectura del idioma. Los estudiantes pueden ser de familias donde hablan español, o estudiantes del programa de Immersion. La clase tendra actividades interactivas para mantener interesados a los niños y que tambien sea divertido. La clase sera impartida por 2 maestras que su lengua nativa es español. Cupo limitado a 15 estudiantes. Grados: 4-5, 6 sesiones por @$50, 25 de Abril – 30 de mayo Miercoles de 3:10 a 4:15pm. $25 para niños que reciben almuerzo gratis o reducido.
