New England Club By Rich Allen I hope everyone is having a great summer. Those of us who stayed around this summer are looking forward to fall for some heat relief. Our club will be starting up again on Thursday, Oct. 11th at 5pm. We will have our annual welcome back Pizza party then. There is NO cost to members and $4.00 for guests. The new club year begins then and our annual dues for the year will remain at the great price of $5.00 per person. I hope to see some new faces from those who moved into Rolling Greens since May. The Club is open to all owners and renters in Rolling Greens. You do not need to be from the New England area to join. Entertainment is TBA in the Oct. newsletter

1st Vice President Kathy Allen 352-509-2234 Look forward to seeing our residents at the Sept. 4th 7PM auditorium members meeting. Unable to attend that night, you have the opportunity to attend the 3:30 Sept. 4th MPR board meeting @ the community center. Reminder, planning or considering running for the board, please call Tom Mullen, Judy Crites or Amy Foley. As always, thank you for your support of the RGHOA

Midwest Club By Doug Wedel The Midwest Club will be having a special meeting on Satur-day, September 8th at 6 pm in the auditorium. Anyone interested in seeing this club keep going should be there. Also, we do not have a president and with all the other stuff I am involved in I can't take on another responsibility. If no one comes forward to accept the position I'm afraid the club will close up. Then the only thing left to do is decide on where the treasury will go.

One Blood Drive By Susan LaChausse 315-921-4125 or 352-236-6658 It’s time again for the second blood drive in Rolling Greens for ONEBLOOD. It will be September 20, 2018 with sign-in at the Com-munity Center. We have some nice thank you gifts for your donation but you would be giving someone the best gift of a better life. Remember one pint helps three people. FACTS: To be eligible you must be over 17 years old and weigh more that 110 pounds. I think a lot of us meet that requirement. And you can donate every 56 days. If you are taking medicine for high blood pressure, high cho-lesterol, diabetes of other conditions come down and let them check you out. If you are on blood thinners, that is a no-no. Sorry. We have many new residents that need to check out how easy we make it to donate without leaving the park. On this drive you will be entered to win 1 of 2 $20.00 PUBLIX gift cards plus beach towels and ice coolers. Save the date and make an appointment or stop by the Com-munity Center when you see the BIG RED BUS. If you know Marlene Wood, ask her about our blood dona-tions. THANK YO SO MUCH. PS: All ALEX DONERS will receive a free round of golf w/cart at Muni Golf Course on S.S. Blvd., City of Ocala Golf Course.

Area 4 By Bonnie Quackenbush Area 4 Director, HOA Board of Directors As I prepare for September's article, the value of life came to my mind, perhaps more than usual. We have lost three very special people who have lived here a very long time and have indeed left their mark on our community. We have said goodbye to Bob Krebs, Tony Belden and Sophie Conocchioli. Thank you for leaving a lasting im-pression on so many of our lives and in our community. You will be missed. Living in Rolling Greens means so many things to so many of us and to all of us, those things can be very different. No matter what it means to any of us, overall it is about community. A community of all kinds and from all different places and with all kinds of personali-ties. Makes no difference. It all boils down to respect for each other, friend or acquaintance or those you have yet to meet. Are you being a positive influence on this community? Stop the negativity and being a part of the ROM (rumor of the month). Life is limited in case you have-n't noticed. It usually comes to a sudden stop. Don't have regrets. Living here also means (for most of us), home ownership and home ownership means home maintenance. I've come to accept that how you live inside your home is your business, unless of course, the inside extends to the outside and then it becomes other people's busi-ness. Have you shown pride in home ownership? How many weeds are growing out of your gutters, awnings and the area around your home? Had the house washed lately? It is amazing to see how many of our homes have all kinds of mold that is not only unsightly but is unhealthy. Go outside your home, take a look, including the carport and what do you see? Doesn't it bother you? Well, it might be bother-ing someone else or in fact, many of your neighbors who have to live with this day after day and are embarrassed by where they live. What about those prospective buyers? Live in a retirement community of manufactured homes or a trailer park? In closing, I would like to once again focus on one of my key words for life....R-E-S-P-E-C-T, (one of Aretha Franklin's biggest hits). Respect is a relatively short word with a whole lot of cover-age...yourself, others, your home, your community, your beliefs, your family and so much more. Another one of those things that is neglect-ed is your nation and those who defend and have defended it for years. Show your respect (yes, there I go again, but I won't quit until I see action and more respect for our flag.) Take down those old bat-tered, soiled and desecrated ones and buy yourself a new one and for those yet to do so, I checked it out. They sell them for under $10.00 at Lowe's and Walmart! Everyone shops there, so don't forget to pick one up on your next trip there. 'We don't always have to agree with one another, but it is important that we learn to respect each other.' Respectively submitted, Bonnie Q, Area 4 Director, RGHOA Board of Directors Reminder: Mon, Sept 3rd, Labor Day Get Together spon-sored by the HOA, beginning at 12:30 in the Auditorium. Pulled pork or chicken on a bun, chips and beverage. Free for HOA mem-bers. $2.00 non-members. Sign up at the Community Center. Flag Holidays for September...Labor Day 3rd; Patriot Day 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance (half staff all day); Consti-tution Day 17th.

Area 1 Diane Weingartner Director Just want to let you all know that things aren’t always seen as negative in Rolling Greens. For example, look at the great job done by the Entertainment Committee members and their volunteers with the Luau on Aug 15. Good food and plenty of it and the ribs done by Bob Senge and crew were a big hit. From my point of view, things are looking pretty good in Area 1. Just remember, if you have any im-portant issues you need to bring to my attention, feel free to give me a call and together we will see what we can do. Don’t forget the get-together on Labor Day at the Auditori-um. The Entertainment Committee has come up with a new featured food item...either a pulled pork or pulled chicken sandwich together with the great variety of food items contributed by all of you attending.

Area 3

By Doug Wedel Director It has been fairly quiet these few months with our snow birds gone. I am looking forward to their return in September and Octo-ber. Our first HOA Meeting will be September 4th and everyone should be at this meeting. Last April we were left hanging with the sale of the park. It has been sold but I don't know who the buyers are yet. Guess we will find out after the final papers are signed. Remem-ber that election of Officers is December 11th and if you would like to run for a seat on the board or nominate someone else you need to contact someone on the nominating committee. In order to vote you must be a member in good standing of the HOA, so if you haven't paid your 2018 dues, please do so now. I have been receiving dues from several people during the past 3 months so it's never too late. The annual Arts & Craft Show will be held Saturday, November 10th from 9 am to 2 pm so remember to come. There will be a lot of interesting things there that will make great gifts. There will also be a lunch coun-ter and a bake sale. They are looking for volunteers to help with the bake sale or to donate baked goods. Help out if you can. Call Teresa Garvin or Linda Lee Krebs. There are still some thefts in Roll-ing Greens so be careful with your belongings and please watch out for your neighbors, especially if they are not at home. If you see any-thing in your neighborhood that seems suspicious, no matter how small call 911, better to be safe and not sorry.

R.G. Library Corner By Barbara Critchfield My summer in Ohio is almost over. We are looking forward to cooler temperatures, falling leaves and changing colors and our return to Rolling Greens. With every event I see posted, I think of all the fun activities Mike and I are missing. It won't be long that we'll be packing the car and on our way as we plan to be back by the end of Septem-ber this year. Don't forget to attend the Labor Day Party on September 3rd starting at 12:30 PM. Bring a dish to share and reserve your place by signing up at the kiosk in the Community Center. I'm sure you'll find more details about this HOA-sponsored event in this newsletter. September brings memories of the sad events of 9/11. There are several books in the Library that portray those events. September 2017 also will be remembered in Rolling Greens because of the hurri-cane damage sustained by several residents. I know we were sur-prised to get phone calls and many photos from friends showing the large tree across the top of our house. It took several months to repair, but thankfully the damage wasn't as bad as it looked. Its time to be prepared for hurricanes once again. I know there are pamphlets in the Community Center addressing hurricane preparedness. Stop by and check with Naomi for some helpful information. I'm looking forward to seeing what recipe Fran Misterly will share with us in this newsletter. I have her recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars on my kitchen counter and see it everyday. I haven't made it yet because Fran told me that it's possible to eat the whole pan in one day all by myself and I may just do that some day. As a precaution, I haven't made that recipe yet. Fran has been one of our Library volunteers for a long time and is much appreciated along with our other faithful volunteers. JoAnne Fieschel has been taking my place as lead volunteer all summer. I'll be back to the Library before long to give JoAnne a break. Thanks for all your help, JoAnne. See you all by the first week in October.

Nomination Committee By Tom Mullen

Volunteers...where are you? We need you! Yes, you reading this newsletter!

I know it is early, but it is time to think about being part of the H.O.A. Board, Area 2 & Area 4 are open, also two at large seats. We can not depend on the same people all the time. Please step up. The board we have now has worked very hard at getting so much done. So think about putting your name up for nomination. You can help. Kingdom of the Sun Concert Band Les Muncaster Conductor On behalf of the Kingdom of the Sun Concert Band, I invite you to join us for upcoming performances of “Welcome Back, Harry” on Saturday, September 29th at 2:00 p.m., and Sunday, September 30th, 3:00 p.m. at Marion Technical Institute (old Forest High School), 1614 SE Ft. King St., Ocala. “Who is Harry?” you may ask. Well, for those of you who have never been to one of our performances, I promise you are in for a real treat! And . . . for our regular concert goers, many of you may remem-ber one of our favorite guest performers ever, Harry Watters. Harry is an internationally acclaimed Jupiter Performing Artist & Clinician, Sum-mit Records Recording Artist, former trombonist with the U.S. Army Band, Washington, D.C., and all-around nice guy. Once you’ve heard Harry perform, you’ll never forget the experience. Harry Watters has performed with Doc Severinsen, Al Hirt, Lou Rawls, Maureen McGovern, Bill Watrous, and Pete Fountain, just to name a few, and appeared as featured soloist with, among others, the Louisiana Philharmonic, Syracuse Symphony, Baton Rouge Sym-phony, the Tulsa Pops, West Virginia Symphony, University of North Texas One O'clock lab Band, the Janacek Philharmonic, and the Mol-davan Festival Orchestra. His performance of “Flight of the Bumble-bee” at warp speed on slide trombone is phenomenal . . . and I’m not exaggerating. These special performances will feature, among other selec-tions: “Flight of the Bumblebee”; “My One and Only Love; “A Musical Journey Through New Orleans; “Over the Rainbow”; and “Cherokee.” Pre-concert entertainment will be provided by our own KOS Brass Quintet. We express our sincere thanks to the Ocala-Marion County Visitors’ Bureau for their support of these performances. We hope you’ll join us for these special “Welcome Back, Har-ry” performances on Saturday, September 29th, 2:00 p.m., and Sun-day, September 30th, 3:00 p.m. at Marion Technical Institute. It’s always great to see so many of our friends and neighbors in the audi-ence . . . and, remember, all performances are free and open to the public. Resident Speaks It seems that we hear a lot of complaining sometimes, which is, I guess the nature of the beast. However, my husband and I would like to take a moment to let everyone know how impressed we are with the new maintenance manager, Frank. We turned in a maintenance order on a Saturday and Frank and his crew showed up here first thing the following Monday to take care of it. This was the speediest response in 18 years! They did the work, cleaned up the mess and were on their way in short order. We were amazed. Then, one day my husband was working in the yard and Frank drove by. He saw that my husband could use a little help and he stopped and helped! Amazed again. He made short work of a project that would have taken my husband a long time. I wanted everyone to know how much we appreciate the responsiveness, professionalism and kindness of this crew. We are lucky to have them in Rolling Greens. Carolyn and Allen Beyer

W.H.O. Pat Murphy 694-1892 The members of WHO (Women Helping Others) are anxiously looking forward to September 11th and the first meeting of the Fall. We meet in the West Clubhouse every Wednesday from 1 pm to 3pm. Now, you might be asking yourself "just what goes on every Wednesday afternoon?" First of all, we have a really good time, talking, telling jokes, and catching up after the long rainy summer… but more importantly, we knit, crochet, put ties in Soldier bags for Operation ShoeBox. All the things we make are donated to local charities in the Ocala area. Just to brag a little, here is a list of all the "stuff" we donated from January 1 to April 25, 2018. 36 afghans 1 quilt 6 pairs of slippers 7 big bags 7 small bags 4 adult hats 3 buntings 1 bunting and cap 1 baby afghan 2 baby sweaters 7 bibs 612 soldier bags We would love to have you all join us!! Oh, one more thing...we survive on donations of yarn and fab-ric! So if you are cleaning out your stash's, please think of WHO and put your fabric and yarn to good use and donate to WHO!! By the way, we can always use cash donations too. God Bless each and every one of you~!!

Did You Know??? By Michael Stone

HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR COFFEE????? They tell us that the coffee in our RG Pro Shop is always pret-ty good, so I thought I would share some secrets to a BETTER cup of Joe for all you heavy duty coffee hounds....... START WITH WHOLE BEANS - Freshly ground beans will give you a stronger, fresher flavor than any pre-ground blend you can buy. It will also stay fresh longer - up to two weeks, versus pre-ground which is truly fresh for only about one week. DON’T STORE IN FREEZER OR FRIDGE - Moisture is the enemy. So are food odors, especially from your fridge. Keep in an airtight contain-er, in a cool dark pantry. BUY SMALL BATCHES - As beans age they always lose their flavor. HEAT MORE THAN JUST YOUR BREW - Pre warm your mug! If you use milk or cream, warm it in the microwave before you add it to your brew. MAKE YOUR OWN FLAVORED BLENDS - Try adding Vanilla bean husks, Cinnamon shavings, dark chocolate, dried fruits or citrus ren-dering into the filter, depending on your own preferences. YOU CAN CREATE FAKE FROTH - In your Microwave... Heat 1/2 cup of milk in your Microwave until small bubbles form. Usually that is about 1 minute. Whisk strongly, scoop out the foam into a bowl, put the warmed milk into half a cup of STRONG coffee, then top off with the foam. OLD COFFEE IS GOOD COFFEE - Save your leftover morning cof-fee. Make coffee ice cubes with it to chill your iced coffee or mocha without watering them down. Or you can save in the fridge to add to cake batter, frosting, chili, marinades and braises.

I picked up a hitch hiker last night. He seemed surprised that I'd pick up a stranger and asked, "Thanks, but why would you pick me up"? How do you know I'm not a serial killer"? I told him the chances of two serial killers being in one car would be astronomi-cal.

RGVFD Memorial Service The RGVFD would once again like to remind you of a beautiful service that they have decided to render to every resident in the park. If you have a family member who passes away and would like to have a memorial service for him/her here in the park, the volunteer fire dept. is here to help. We will provide a beautiful table set-up, cake, coffee, and a guest book. If there would be more food brought by other people, they would help

to serve it. The chair person to contact is Mary McCarthy at 352-624-2901.

R.G. Fire Dept. Equipment Update to medical equipment provided by the RGVFD. We, as an organization, strive to serve our community in many different ways, one of which is supplying people with temporary assistance with such things as wheelchairs, shower chairs, potty chairs, walkers, crutches, canes, etc. We continually update the equipment by purchasing new things when called for. For information, or to borrow any of these items you may call: Bob Pennington at 317 828-2652; Mike McLinden at 484-1244, or Judy Crites at 724-815-6679. They will make arrange-ments with you for returning the items when you first borrow them.

President By Sandra Leach As a reminder now that meetings will resume in September, the following will be the protocol for the meetings (which are open to all residents): Pledge God Bless America Newby Management updates that will be followed by a ques-tion and answer period not to exceed 15 minutes. Guest Speaker (if applicable), who will talk no more than 15 minutes, followed by a question and answer period that will be limited to 15 minutes. Any resident can direct questions to both Newby Manage-ment and the guest speaker. After that, Newby Management and the guest speaker will be asked to leave before our business meeting begins. After our business meeting is conducted, a question and an-swer period for HOA MEMBERS ONLY will be open for up to 15 minutes. ALL QUESTIONS WILL BE ASKED USING THE MIC THAT WILL BE PLACED ON A TABLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AUDITO-RIUM. ALSO, ANYONE ASKING A QUESTION MUST GIVE THEIR FULL NAME AND HOA AREA NUMBER. IF YOUR QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS ARE NOT ANSWERED, PLEASE CONTACT NEWBY MAMAGEMENT, THE GUEST SPEAKER OR A BOARD MEMBER AT A LATER TIME. Following that, anyone who contacted the HOA Secretary Bob Senge by phone or email asking to be added to the agenda will be allowed to speak for 2 MINUTES ONLY. All requests must be made within the 3 weeks following the last meeting, as the agenda must be posted 1 week prior to the next scheduled HOA meeting according to our bylaws. NO ONE WILL BE ADDED TO THE AGEN-DA AFTER IT IS POSTED. Please be aware that because of residents’ comments, we will be using the gavel and a timer in order to adhere to this format. We are setting this protocol in order to keep our meeting times to a minimum. If you have any questions, please call me at (352) 509-2390
