I feel like it is a real honor and you affirmed that all the work that we have been putting in during the last year was truly going in the right direction. So once again Thank You! For those of you that missed the Winter Ban- quet, we had a great banquet as usual. Thank you to the folks at Diamond Lake. They once again came through for us, they even provided snow! I had three great days of riding with a bunch of good friends. As for the awards. Thank you Brian for all of your hard work all of the time. A reminder about the OSSA conven- tion in John Day, please register for that now. Before we go to the convention we have a Turkey fry (I will NOT be cooking) and ride on January 16th at Hamacker. Scott Downing will be doing the cooking (and the rest of the club gives thanks) Remember that we have invited CC Rid- ers (Roseburg club) to join us this year, they will be coming via snowmobile so we may need a little extra potluck food. This will be a wonderful opportunity for the two clubs to be able to interact. Mark your Calendars for the Bailey $3000 in February and make reservations as needed. A quick update on our Wilderness fight. Our petition signature count is 2,797 signatures and counting. We are still col-lecting signatures so keep up the good work! This fight is going to be a long term project and our first meeting went well

although we were disap-pointed at the turnout from non-snowmobile re-lated entities. We will need to redouble our ef-forts in this area.

We are beginning to look into forming a new non-profit to handle all the money for this joint effort and the legal issues that this entails. Some other things we are researching is commer-cials, radio and television and letter writing cam-

paigns. We could also use a grant writer if any of you has that type of experi-ence.

I realize that the weather is not cooperating with our snowmobiling plans, and I have very little in-formation about grooming at this point. Hopefully by the time you are reading this, we will be grooming. We really need about a foot of snow at the shelter before we start grooming. From the previous years that I have been grooming, this is our latest start. However, our cat is ready to go and waiting for flakes. On a new note please congratulate Brian Watson as my choice for Groomer of the Year for our ’08 ’09 season. Brian not only spends many hours a week in the cat, he also spends countless hours working to maintain and repair our machine. During sum-mer maintenance there were several times when I just didn’t feel like working on the cat, and Brian would call asking “Hey what we doing today on the cat today!” So please take time and thank our groomers for doing a heck of a job and if you see or find hazards on our trail system, please give me a call. Our Groomers meeting went really well, and we had some fine discussions and ideas about our up-coming season. Our second 1st Aid class has been pushed back into January and that class is about full. The date for that class is not set yet. As soon as we start grooming, I will post on the forum and update Kim right away. Anyone inter-ested in the grooming program please give me a call, and let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope we have a great snow year.

Well there is now enough snow so let’s get to the trash talking. At the Christmas tree ride there was a little miss communication Dennis J needs to work on his hand signals so Rene P does not follow him up a big hill climb on a two up with his wife on the back. However I was highly impressed he almost made it, way to go Rene. Our first attempt at the Bailey Trees into the west bowl was very eventful I’m now a firm believer that Laurel B is now teaching Chuck how to ride. Dennis J may now be a logger good thing he bought a new saw proba-bly should just go around them. This was my first time riding with Leslie B aka “Pinball” her sled is all over the place but it usually finds its way to the top of the hill. On a sadder note Jim M may have broken some ribs, those darn stubs just under the snow just waiting to stop a sled so when you see him, try to get him to laugh. That’s all I have for now but it’s early in the season I know will have more next month.

Here we are at the beginning of our sea-son with barely enough snow to go rid-ing, and the club has already been in-volved in two great community events. In the November gen-eral meeting the club voted to adopt two Christmas families to shop for who could use our help to have a Merry Christmas. The families were selected by Lisa Duncan who through her work con-nection was able to qualify families that truly needed our help. With the funds that the club allocated, Sheyla Hildebrand and Elysia Gabaldon spent many hours shopping (they enjoyed it) and wrapping presents for each of the families. One of the families included two children who were sleeping on the couch because they did not have beds to sleep on. When the club heard about this, several people

jumped in to help find beds that could be donated to the family. Gene Bowl-ing was able to get a set of twin beds donated and Sheyla Hildebrand do-

nated two bedding sets so the fam-ily would not need to shop for bed-ding. Your club also decided to step in and purchase two bed frames to complete the set. Thank You to all the club members as the dues you pay each year just helped two families have a Merry Christ-mas. At the same time we were working on the Christmas family

project, the club also was helping D & S Harley get toys for the Toys for Tot program. A special thank you goes out to Water World Boating Center, Central Equipment and Medford Power Sports

for stepping up and having collec-tion sites at their locations. The club also donated $200 to shop for toys which Jan Guthmiller spent time doing. Thank you to Jan, our local dealers and all the club members who helped out to make this happen. I want to say it one more time, THANK YOU to all the club members as your dues just made a difference in our local commu-nity.

The season has officially started for most of us! I got my first ride in this year before Thanksgiving and it was a blast. This was followed up by our annual Christmas Tree Ride and Chili Feed. This is the first time for me that we have had snow for this event. After dodging a few four wheel drives, we headed up to high country to find the perfect trees and perfect snow. I thought we might have to call in a helicopter logger to pull Rene’s tree out but he got it down the mountain on his own! Afterwards we all hung out and vis-ited while enjoying Lyn-ette’s fa-mous chili. Thanks to Lynette and family for providing us with this awesome meal!

Next up was the Christmas Banquet weekend. There was plenty of snow for rid-

ing all weekend. I saw plenty of stuck sleds with happy, grinning riders! And just be-cause I don’t have a picture doesn’t mean you got away with it (Jeff Hoxsey)!! As always, Lori Jordan a n d

was abso-lutely deli-c i o u s . T h a n k you Lori!! This was fol-lowed up by plenty of prizes and awards. This year’s award winners were: Golden Helmet: Mike Rose, Outhouse Award:

Leslie Bowman, Groomer of the Year: Brian Watson and Snowmobiler of the Year:

Dennis Jordan. Be sure to ask Mike and Leslie what they did to win those a w a r d s ! And keep your eyes open for fu-

Did you know that the Rogue Snowmobilers has a group rate to join Mercy Flights? The cost is $50 per year per household. Eligible household members consist of the head of household and immediate family members, living at the same physical location, who are legal depend-ents. This is a great rate for a combined ground and air trans-port policy. For fur-ther information, or if you have any ques-tions please call Mercy Flights at 541-858-2600 or 800-903-9000 or go to our website for an enrollment f o r m a t www.roguesnowmobilers.com.

We have recently lost two long term members of our club. Dowen Grimes passed away at the age of 61 in November and Bob Wobbe passed away last week at the age of 82. Both men were active mem-bers of our club and contributed much to the club and the sport of snowmobi-ling. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to their families at this time.

Rest In Peace
