3. Draft Vision
Example Vision Statements: Through the NY Rising Process, Rockaway West aims to improve the overall
readiness, capacity, and strength of its Communities to prepare for, respond to and quickly recover from weather-related events, particularly surge and flooding, meeting the overall need to maintain self-sufficiency for an extended period of time.
To be a vibrant and sustainable community that enables residents and visitors to enjoy the bounty of all of its assets, especially the natural beauty of the Beach and Jamaica Bay.
Our vision is to empower and rebuild the diverse communities of Rockaway West to be prepared, vibrant and resilient in facing the common economic, social, physical, and environmental challenges in our coastal neighborhood.

Guiding Definitions: Strategies are methods of addressing priorities, needs, and opportunities to meet
Rockaway West’s goals. A project is a specific scoped and time-delimited undertaking (such as building a
dune) that may be one of many ways to carry out a strategy.
