Rock Music - HubPages.com Rock music has been among the most popular types of music for over 50 years. The exact beginning of the era or rock music is debated but many people point to the time of Elvis Presley as the unofficial beginning. Apart from the music, Elvis brought with him some of the individualism and lack of concern for the ways of the past that have marked the history of rock music. The British invasion of the 1960's was clearly another turning point. Groups such the Beatles and Rolling Stones helped to solidify rock music as a form that had commercial viability. Rock music has gone through many different eras and phases. There has been the surfer music made famous by The Beach Boys, the blues influenced rock of Eric Clapton, the classic rock of Led Zeppelin and The Who, and the heavy metal and hair bands of the 1980's.and 1990's.
