Processing and analysis of data
Ground Control methods can be considered to comprise of:
Ground support or elements that support the perimeter of the excavationGround reinforcement or elements that act within the rock mass oftenproviding an active restraining force.
Support and reinforcement can also comprise any measure that maintainsthe integrity of a mine opening for the required time period, i.e. fromminutes to years. Reinforcement can also be subdivided further into:
Passive; in which the rock mass has to move in order that the reinforcingelement can develop its required load, such as timber sets.Active; where the reinforcing element places an active load on the rockmass from the time of installation such as a tensioned rock bolt

Mechanics Example Character/ApplicationFriction Split sets
SwellexGood in mobile groundPoor in hard rock and seismicconditions
End Anchor Shell anchorResin anchor
Good in hard rock as atemporary support
Full column grouting/resin BarsWire cables
Stiff permanent support at allstress levels except whereseismicity occurs
High stress (squeezingground)
Shotcrete/fibrecrete mesh,bolts or concrete segments
Both must be deformableVery early application
High stress (high modulusground)
Shocrete/fibrecrete cables(wire)
Stiff unless seismically active.Very early application
Seismicity Shotcrete/ fibrecreteMesh/lacingBolts/ cables (rope)
Bolts/ cables must bedeformable (full column groutand sheath)
