WHAT: In-Town Skills Workshops and, if invited and interested, the Desert Encampment Part I: In-town Activities • TWO Mandatory Skill Workshops: Torrance Scout Center, 2365 Plaza Del Amo January 25 and February 1, 2020 (rain or shine) 8:30am - 3:30pm, Includes instruction in fire building, first aid, tents, lashing, use of hand tools, survival skills, compass, winter and desert camping techniques. • THREE Patrol Meetings: (Two Mandatory) between January 26 and February 26, 2020 Girls continue practicing camping skills, allocate jobs and plan personal and patrol gear, all in preparation for tryouts. Locations TBD. • Overnight Tryouts: El Ranchito (GSGLA – Long Beach Service Center) February 29 - March 1, 2020 (rain or shine) 8:30am Saturday through12:30pm Sunday Tryouts give campers an opportunity to demonstrate their camping skills and have fun. Part II - Desert Encampment - April 5 - 9, 2020 Indian Joe’s Canyon outside Trona, CA In the desert, we camp, rock climb, rappel, hike, cook our own meals, have skills contests, and evening campfires, etc. Invitation Only (Girls do not have to accept invitation): Girls who attend all mandatory In-town Activities: • Both Workshops, Two Patrol Meetings AND demonstrate the necessary skills and positive attitude during the Overnight Tryouts.
