RASA IB Blast!

2nd Grade (by Ms. Dockter)    How We Organize Ourselves: A Helping Hand

The second graders are just getting started on their IB unit on Charities throughout the World.  We are watching a touching movie called, Little Red Wagon, to kick off our unit.  The movie follows the life of young boy that is touched by the needs of the city of Punta Gorda, Florida following the aftermath of Hurricane Charley.  He rallies his neighborhood to help.  From there he decides he would like to help homeless children and he forms his own charity, Little Red Wagon Foundation.  This movie shows that it doesn't matter how young you are, you can make a difference in the lives of others.  From there we will be exploring what philanthropy is, how needs effect support, different types of charities, and ways we can help in our own community.  The students will be exploring different ways they can help by planning and organizing their own fundraiser to help an organization that is dear to their hearts.
