Topics• There are an infinite amount of topics that could be written

about when dealing with robotics. The following slides will give you some ideas about the areas you may want to discuss. These are simply suggested areas, you should do your report on an area that interests you.

• In each of these areas you could talk about the history of robots, the way they are used currently, or future predictions of how they are going to be used. However, make sure any predictions you use are coming from an expert source.

• You may also chose to talk about a number of different topics in your report

Robots in Industry• Robots are often used to make manufacturing

or resource gathering more efficient, or for repetitive tasks.

Robots in Medicine• Robots are used for surgical procedures and

can be used to replace or augment lost or damaged human body parts.

Agriculture

• Robots are being used to automate some farming jobs.

Military

• Robots have been used for dangerous military jobs since World War 2.

Hazardous Environments

• Robots are used by police for bomb disposal, firefighters, and in outer-space.

Swarm Robots

• Robots are being developed to do complex tasks by grouping together with many other robots.

Nanobots• These microscopic robots can be used to build

things at an atomic level, or can be injected into the body to repair tissue or destroy viruses.

Humanoid Robots• These robots are designed to function as

humans do.

Robots in Entertainment

• Your report will not include any reference to or pictures about fictional robots from movies or television.

Format of the Report• The report will be a PowerPoint presentation• The presentation will have a minimum of 10 slides and a

maximum of 12 slides• A title slide listing the name of your report, your name,

class section and having one image is required• A reference slide is required at the end of the presentation

listing all of the websites you used for your report– Please remember that “Google” is not where found the

information!– Copy and paste the complete URL of the website

Format Continued• Each informational slide must include:

– At least two paragraphs of information• A paragraph consists of 4 to 8 good sentences• Point form is unacceptable in a report

– At least one quality picture which relates to the information on the slide.

• No videos will be present in the report as you will be printing them to hand in

• You do not need slide transitions or animations of any kind• Make sure that you choose background and font colours

which can be read easily

Items to Remember• Spelling and grammar always count!

– Make sure you proofread and use spellcheck!• Plagiarism is unacceptable and will result in punishment and completing the assignment

again– Do not copy and paste material. The point of a report is to research and summarize what you

have learned. Use your own words!• Do your own work. This is not a group project, so you have no need to discuss it with

any other student in the class.• This report is your major assignment for the first half of this term. It is worth 60% of

your mid-term mark!• If the report is not handed in on time, a student will have detention each day until it is

handed in.• Reports which are not completed according to the specifications of the assignment will

be returned to the student to complete.• Students will not participate in the next unit of study until this report is completed as

assigned.
