Exact animal units (AUs) and grazing duration are flexible, except duration shall not to exceed 35 days in any cell. Open grazing period is May 1 to September 30, 2020 and 2021 (153 day window). May start in any cell. Habitat objectives are to reduce the vegetative litter layer, set-back cool season grasses, assist with a forb inter-seeding, and promote structural heterogeneity. Approximately 6,605 feet of single strand and 3,360 feet of double strand temporary electric fence is needed.

Grazing Plan

Unit Name: Robin Hood WPA (Central and SW Units) Objectives: Graze cattle to reduce the litter layer, set-back invasive grasses, assist with a forb inter-seeding, and promote structural heterogeneity. Stocking Information: Graze cattle at a stocking rate NOT TO EXCEED 80 Animal Unit Months (AUMs) in Cells a, B, D and 60 AUMs in Cell C. Exact animal units (AUs) and grazing duration are flexible, except duration shall not exceed 35 days in any cell (140 days total). Open grazing period is May 1 to September 30, 2020 and 2021 (153 day window), with a “must start by” date of May 18 if grazing for 90 days. May start in any cell. Animal Unit Months (AUMs) are calculated by multiplying the Animal Units (1,000 pounds = 1 AU) by the number of grazing days and dividing by 30. For example, 80 AUs grazing for 30 days is 80 AUMs; and 80 AUs grazing for 23 days is 58.6 AUMs; or 68 AUs grazing for 35 days is 79.3 AUMS, and 68 AUs for 26 days is 58.9 AUMs. Upland Acres Affected: Approximately 350 acres.

Other Notes: Installation of approximately 6,605 feet of single strand and 3,360 feet of double strand temporary electric fence, as well as wing fences will be needed. Perimeter boundary fence consists of newer 4 strand barbed wire. Permanent materials for any repairs will be provided. It is expected that hot wires will be electrified with a minimum of 3 kilovolts at all times. A site visit with a land manager to discuss options for corralling or loading/unloading may be necessary.
