ROBERTSON STATE SCHOOL
Principal’s Update By Margaret Berry
LOTE AND INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS DEPARTMENT -
LOTE CLASSES BEGIN FOR
PREP - YEAR 1 NEXT TERM
Attached to this newsletter is a
vision and staffing of our newly
formed LOTE and International Programs
Department in the school.
Prep and Year 1 classes will
begin LOTE (Mandarin) lessons
next term. Mrs Joy Wang will join Ms Joy Hsieh in delivering
a 30 minute lesson of LOTE to
the Preps and Year 1s. This is
an exciting development in our
school and in line with our
Strategic Plan to deliver LOTE from P - 6 and develop
relationships with a sister
school. Watch this space!
YEAR 2 STUDENTS CREATE KEYNOTE PRESENTATIONS
As a culminating literacy
activity for the term, Mrs
Feeney’s 2F class produced
some amazing keynote
presentations using their iPads. Children were able to
publish their information
reports in an attractive and
creative manner.
This is just one example of
multi-modal learning that is
occurring across many of our
classrooms this term.
Congratulations 2F.
CHESS SUCCESS Congratulations to the
Robertson Chess team who
earned a first in the open
division and places in the
novice division at the
Somerville House Invitational. A smaller Robertson team
scored second in the
Interschool competition at
Churchie this week. See the
full story in Chess news.

EASTER PARADE
Deputy News By Cartia Balladone IMPROVING READING
Holiday Reading The Easter holiday is a great time to encourage your child to pick up a few good books. Holiday reading as a leisure activity and as a family is a great way to keep their hard-earned reading skills from slipping.
Get your younger readers to take a day trip to the local library. You may be tempted to select their books, but don’t. Let them have free choice of what they want to read. This will keep them motivated and interested in reading.
For those reluctant readers audio books could be a great option. The
local library will have options for all ages. Any positive engagement with texts will help them retain their reading skills.
PREP EXCURSION The Prep students participated in their first excursion for the year to the Moreton Bay Environmental Education Centre. The students were exploring the seaside and in particular the flora and fauna which is unique to these ecosystems.
We would like to thank our teachers for getting this excursion organised and the parent volunteers for their assistance.
ACHIEVEMENT THROUGH EFFORT Over the term students from Prep to Year 3 have participated in the
junior assembly. This assembly gives the junior school an opportunity to share what we are doing in our classrooms and learn more about our school from an early years perspective.
One of the highlights on any junior assembly is presenting the Achievement Through Effort awards. This award is given to one student in each class who has consistently and independently demonstrated our school motto.
This term students have been acknowledged for their reading and writing skills, participation in classroom and outdoor activities,
as well as improved participation in homework or extra-curricular activities.
Well done to the students who have received one of these awards this term.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS I hope that those of you who attended our evening on
Wednesday heard wonderful things about your child and their educational journey.
Our next round of interviews will take place on the second Wednesday of Term 3. Interview times will open online around the middle of next term.
NAPLAN INFORMATION SESSIONS Thank you to those of you ho attended the NAPLAN sessions. I hope that you had your questions
answered and understand how we prepare the children to sit this national test.
CANBERRA TRIP – YEAR 6 I am very excited as I met with the organisers of this year’s tour on Tuesday and the itinerary is probably one of the best I have seen in my fourteen years at Robertson.
This year we are booking through EducaTours. This company was recommended to us by other schools as being expert at what they do.
Due to the time of the year that we are travelling, we are unable to fly in or out of Canberra so we will be going via Sydney. This is quite exciting as the children will get to visit Taronga Park Zoo, have a ride on a ferry and a tour through the Sydney Opera House before travelling on to Canberra.
We will be staying at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and eating in the same dining room with the athletes – what a wonderful opportunity for the children.
The trip will now be six days in length (Sunday 4 September –
Friday 9 September). I enquired about leaving on the Monday however this will not make the trip all that much cheaper as the Monday flights are a lot more expensive than the Sunday flights.
The final cost has been confirmed at $1140.00 per person. The
response has been great so far. I will need to confirm numbers after the holidays so that we can secure our flights so please return your child’s forms and pay the deposit so that they don’t miss out.
