This story can fit 175-225 words.

The purpose of a newsletter is to provide specialized information to a targeted audience. Newsletters can be a great way to market your product or service, and also create credibility and build your organiza-tion’s identity among peers, members, employees, or vendors.

First, determine the audi-ence of the newsletter. This could be anyone who might benefit from the infor-mation it contains, for ex-ample, employees or people interested in purchasing a product or requesting your service.

You can compile a mailing list from business reply

cards, customer infor-mation sheets, business cards collected at trade shows, or membership lists. You might consider pur-chasing a mailing list from a company.

If you explore the Publisher catalog, you will find many publications that match the style of your newsletter.

Next, establish how much time and money you can spend on your newsletter. These factors will help de-termine how frequently you publish the newsletter and its length. It’s recommend-ed that you publish your newsletter at least quarter-ly so that it’s considered a consistent source of infor-mation. Your customers or employees will look for-

Caption describing picture or graphic.

A s we plan a county Clover Bowl

Contest in late March, clubs

should be determining team mem‐

bers for Clover Bowl. Schools may

determine how you will conduct

your school contest. One winning

team from each grade 4th—6th,

and two teams that may be a combi‐

nation of 7th and 8th graders, will

represent each participating school

at the county level.

TN History for Kids is a great re‐

source for teachers, students and

parents.

Not sure how to choose a

team? Start by asking

for volunteers. There is a

pre‐test available that can be given to

students to see who already has a

knowledge base. A willing parent

who will “coach” the team is an asset

as well. Use Clover Bowl for RTI time

enrichment. Students may study inde‐

pendently or in teams.

Study questions are on the robert‐

son.tennessee.edu website. In

addition, you will find some match‐

ing quizzes that are useful. Let us

know if you have team—we want

to give you a Tennessee puzzle—if

you don’t have one already!

Email us with your school plan!

T o provide opportunities for global citizenship, 4‐H members are invited to pack

an Operation Christmas Child Shoebox. Children in foreign countries have many

needs, and a simple shoebox filled with toiletries, toys, school supplies and other help‐

ful items is a gift that is a bright spot in their lives.

The Robertson County 4‐H County‐Wide 4‐H Club will be conducting a “packing party”

at the November 2 meeting at the UT Extension Office in Springfield. Through year

around collection, many items have been donated and ready to fill shoeboxes.

Any local 4‐H clubs who would like to participate in this project, may do so by, (1) do‐

nating items, (2) filling a shoebox(es), or (3) collecting change to pay for shipping.

We have a limited supply of OCC shoeboxes we can give to clubs. Email us!

A great idea for a service project

is to have your club “Trick or

Treat” for canned food instead of

candy. Foods donated can benefit a

local community food pantry. In

addition to the Hope Center in

White House and United Ministries

in Springfield, there are many

churches who have food pantries.

Second Harvest in Nashville also

serves the Robertson County area

and will accept donations.

The County Wide 4‐H Teen Club

traditionally meets in October to

collect food. Wear your 4‐H shirt

or a Halloween costume and you

can also bring (optional) your

“little” pull wagon for collecting

canned goods.

Teachers—if you have students who

are interested in joining the group,

contact our office for details.

If you want to have your students

conduct their own Trick or Treat for

Canned Foods drive….they will

need:

to make a flyer they can give out

to people they visit.

recruit a parent to supervise

determine who will receive the

food items.

deliver the items collected.
