The Knights of Columbus Council 9527 meets

every first Monday of the month at the Pope John

Paul II Annex at Holy Cross Church at 7:00 p.m.

They also hold an officer/trustee meeting to

discuss upcoming events that is open to all

members, on the last Monday of every month at

7:00 p.m.

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH

Life is not a level, smooth road, but rather a series

of hills & valleys. Sometimes we feel like we are on

a mountain top where everything seems clear and

perfect. Then there are those times when we feel

like we are bogged down in a slimy, muddy swamp

where everything is dark & dreary.

Take some time to set your heart to be persistent

in your faith—faith in God to lead you, pick you up

when you have fallen, give you strength to

continue and—ultimately—reach your goals.

CURRENT FUNDRAISERS

1. The council is selling Olive Wood

Solidarity Crosses made in the Holy land for $10 each. Net proceeds will all go to persecuted Christians in the Holy

Land. You can order yours today by signing up at our officer/trustee

meeting, general business meeting, Flocknote, or sending order request to [email protected] or

visiting the church front office.

2. Christmas is right around the corner,

but Jesus is with us Year round! We still have many “Keep Christ in Christmas” car magnets which we are selling for

$5.00. Makes a nice little Christmas gift, as well as a reminder that if there

were no Jesus there would be no Christmas!

3. Posole sales start on November 18-19th after all the Masses in the gathering space. This is our major

fundraiser of the year! If you can help prepare it or sell it contact Daniel

Fernandez at 575-526-9499. OR if you can’t help be sure to get yours –it’s YUMMY!

to Lavender St. Be aware that Lavender St. is closed for

construction, so you need to go one street north of

Lavender to Rio Bravo, turn west and connect with

Lavender from there. Continue on Lavender for a short

distance, then turn left at McCoy Ave. Continue to Holiday

Pl. and turn right. The work site is will be on your right.

Also be aware that it's a relatively new street, so some GPS

programs may have trouble finding it.

Is the Hospital Ministry calling you?

We are always in need of Eucharistic Ministers at Mountain View Hospital. You

can either sign-up as a back-up and help those that are sick or on vacation or sign

up for any day of the week or even the weekend! The time you attend is flexible

to your schedule. For more information

contact Dennis St. George at 575-312-4287 or 575- 993-4164.

Family Rosary Fridays & Rosaries before Masses

Br. Chris Evaro has arranged for the Council to conduct a

Family Rosary every second Friday of the month at 7:00

p.m. at Holy Cross Church. Please try to attend whenever

you can as attendance has been very poor.

The Council also conducts a complete Rosary before

morning Masses during the months of October and May.

Except for the 8:00 a.m. Mass, during the other months of

the year only one decade is prayed before the Mass. A

complete Rosary is prayed at the 8:00 a.m. Mass

throughout the year. Consider volunteering to lead these

Masses. Help is especially needed for the 8:00 a.m. Mass

as only two Knights currently are signed up for leading

this Mass. Point of contact is Dr. James Guganig at 575-

644-0496 or email: [email protected].

Christmas Bags Stuffing Party & Pot Luck Dinner

Our annual Christmas Bags Stuffing party is scheduled

for Dec. 8th

. For newer members who may not be familiar

with this project, it has been done for many years &

organized by Br. Joe Fleming.

At the beginning of each year members are asked to

accumulate the small sample soaps toiletries normally

available to you for free at hotels & motels you visit during

the year. Also, after Hallowe’en you are asked to save

leftover trick-or-treat candies. Then in December we gather

everyone’s booty together, separate, organize and stuff the

soaps & toiletries into one group of bags and the candies in

another group of bags. The bags are then distributed to the

needy adults & children at the El Caldito Soup Kitchen’s

annual Christmas dinner. In past years Br. Joe played the

part of Santa Claus to distribute the bags, but this year he

will not be doing this, due to logistics and other

considerations.

If you haven’t visited any hotels where the toiletries are

offered to you or if you don’t have any leftover Hallowe’en

candy, you are asked to bring travel sized toiletries and

Christmas candies found in groceries stores to the party.

Additional details will be discussed at our next meeting

on Dec. 4th

.

The “Silver Rose”

The Silver Rose

Journey is sponsored

annually by the

Knightsof Columbus

Councils located in

Canada, USA and

Mexico. It starts its

journey from

Canada, travels through the USA and goes through Mexico

before arriving in Tepayac, Mexico sometime before

Christmas. Selected councils are responsible for

transporting and care of the Silver Rose from one

council/church to the next.

It traveled through our District from Oct. 28th until

Nov. 1st

when it was transported to San Juan Diego Council 14949

in Anthony, NM where a ceremony was conducted to

release it to the Texas State Council. During its stay in Las

Cruces Rosaries and Masses were sponsored by the

Councils in our District for the Silver Rose in honor of our

Blessed Mother and Patron Saint of Las Cruces Diocese, La

Virgen de Guadalupe. Our Council sponsored a Rosary

service for the Silver Rose on Oct. 30th

at Holy Cross

Church. Thanks to our program Director for organizing this

event. Also, We thank members & parishioners who helped

and supported the Knights of Columbus in this annual

Happy Thanksgiving

Parishioners enjoying Breakfast!!!!

Congratulations – Jason Barela

Congratulations and Big Kudus go out to Br. Jason Barela.

Not only was he selected as Knight of the Month, but he

also earned his Shining Armor Award. If you are not

familiar with this award, it is an award all NEW Knights

can earn. It is a tremendous way to get a new member

active and also honor him as an elite member of the State

Council’s membership during his first year as a Knight.

New Knights that are involved in at least 3 service

programs, attend 3 council business meeting, receive their

Third Degree, meet with their insurance representative and

recruit at least one new member – all during their first year

of membership qualify for this award.

The Shining Armor Award will be presented to Br. Jason

by our insurance agent, Matt Seltzer, at an appropriate time.

Insurance Corner:

Update Your Beneficiaries

Sometimes it is easy to overlook the simplest of things.

Take, for example, the beneficiaries on your life insurance

policies. If your policy was applied for and issued several

years ago, it may very well be that the person you

originally selected as the beneficiary is no longer the person

you would want to receive the policy proceeds. If you

bought the policy when you were single, for example, you

may have named your parents as beneficiaries. If you have

since married, your policies should be updated to reflect

your spouse as beneficiary. Maybe you’ve had children

since, who are not named on the policies.

Most people list a primary beneficiary, who is specifically

designated as the first in priority to receive policy proceeds.

We also encourage the naming of a contingent beneficiary,

an alternate person designated to receive policy proceeds,

usually in the event that the original beneficiary pre-

deceases the insured.

I routinely call all of my policyholders for annual review

appointments, usually near the anniversary date of your

policy – that is, the date it was originally issued. One of the

matters that I’ll discuss during this review is the status of

your beneficiary designations. If they need updating, and

they often do, I can complete the paperwork during that

appointment.

I look forward to meeting with each of you to discuss your

family’s needs.
