Robert Fisher Robert Fisher is an accountant, a computer consultant and an entrepreneur in exploration geology. His most recent venture uses satellite data from NASA to identify valuable mineral deposits. In the picture, Robert proudly holds a gold-laden chunk of ore identified through his innovative resonance- imaging technique. A conversation with a stranger on an airplane led Robert to this exciting venture. His new contact came to visit him during the Canadian winter, and the conversation turned to new technologies and mineral exploration. Now he and his partners at Leaf and Stone Resonance Services Ltd. are actively exploring across Canada, and developing their own 28 square kilometre property in New Brunswick. “It’s the best thing in life to happen to an accountant,” he beams. Robert is a big thinker, and believes in creating wealth in the Prairie provinces. “I’m fortunate to have a heritage of learning,” smiles Robert, “because change only happens through education.” These two beliefs are reflected in his active involvement in the Prairie Policy Centre. He is a Board member of this western Canadian think-tank. Robert grew up in a home where learning was emphasized. His Dad started the first school in his pioneering district, near Moosomin. Robert’s mother graduated from high school in Regina in 1930, hoping to become a teacher. Blocked by her father, Robert explains, “she started her own classroom by having eight children and teaching us all!” “The measure of someone is not what they take, but what they give,” claims Robert. He supports literacy programming in his community, through an organization called READ Saskatoon. “They are effectively giving people with limited literacy skills an economic opportunity,” he explains. Robert is also a dedicated member of Rotary International, putting “service above self” and contributing to development projects overseas. This includes Rotary’s monumental Polio Plus program, aimed at the global eradication of the disease. Robert brings this same vision of growth to his business. Moving beyond traditional mineral exploration practices means some people think he’s crazy. Not everyone understands a new technology that detects gold deposits at a depth of 4,700 feet and oil and gas at 8,200 feet. But for a man who believes in wealth-creation, learning, accountability, and giving back, that doesn’t matter.
