Robert “Bobby” Smith, Sr., 82, of Nederland, passed Friday, July 9, 2021. He was born January 23, 1939, in Nederland, to Elodie Mott Smith and Claude Smith.
Robert was known as “Smitty” to his co-workers, “Bobby” to his family, “Bobby Bass” to his fishing buddies, and “Paw-Paw” to his six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He spent his career working for the United States Postal Service in Nederland, where he retired after thirty-five years. He loved hunting, fishing, casino trips, and spending time with his family.
It was not unusual for his family and friends to look outside and see him driving down the street with a dog hanging out the window. Bobby was a protector and always looking out for his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Patricia Harvill Smith; sons, Robbie Smith and his wife, Kim; and Russell Smith and his wife, Becky, all of Nederland; grandchildren, Adam Smith and his wife, Tamara; Amber Parnell and her husband, Wes; Darin Smith and his wife, Lindsey; Candace Wilson; Erika Szudzik and her husband, Rob; and Connor Smith; great-grandchildren, Layla, Lexi, Hayes, Holt, Reese, Adeline, Riley, Gracie, and Aubrey; step-mother, Zelma Smith; and half-brothers, Byron Smith and Chad Smith and his wife, Angie.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
