Itinerary Specially Prepared for ROBB COLLEGE RUGBY TOUR AUGUST 2013

WELCOMEIt is my pleasure, as Managing Director of Total Rugby, to welcome the Robb College rugby touringgroup to New Zealand. We are delighted to be working with Dave Schmude and his team fromSport UNE. We hope this will become a regular feature of your rugby programme. It is the game ofrugby that has brought us together and Total Rugby will ensure that you will experience the verybest of New Zealands rugby culture. Welcome, Haere Mai, and enjoy your stay.

INTRODUCTORY NOTESWeather: August is winter weather, which means it can be very cold. Temperatures range from

minus degrees in the mornings to 14 degrees during the day (on a good day!)

Grounds: Grounds may be very wet. At times they are closed because of flooding. If grounds are

closed all effort will be made to find alternative venues. On the rare occasion this is not possible the

game may have to be cancelled. You should ensure that all players have long studs in their boots.

18mm is recommended. Backs may prefer shorter studs but blades WILL NOT WORK!

Mouthguards: Mouthgurards are compulsory at all levels of rugby in New Zealand. The ref will

inspect that you have a mouthguard at the start of the game.

After match Arrangements: It is customary in New Zealand rugby to have an after match function

for special visiting teams. It is a tradition we are keen to maintain. The after match is generally

held at the hosts clubrooms. Speeches are made by the MC and respective captains. Often the

visiting coach or manager is also invited to speak. There is always an exchange of gifts. This can

take the form of a plaque/pendant, club or school ties, players jersey, touring booklet, pins/

badges, beanies or something else that has been prepared. Food is then served.

First Aid: It is not compulsory to have a first aid officer at every game. Initial first aid is generally

administered by coaching and/or management staff. Emergency services are available for more

serious injuries. The emergency number in New Zealand is 111. There are after hours medical

services available in all main centres. If medical treatment is required because of an accident, the

Accident Compensation Commission pays for initial treatment although a surcharge is required

to be paid by the patient. Total Rugby will assist with coordinating medical services including

physiotherapy. It is expected that tour groups will have their own travel insurance to cover medical

expenses. Operators of tourist services have their own policies regarding health and safety and

issues arising should be managed directly with them.

Equipment: Total Rugby has a number of training balls available. Please make an early request forother specific equipment if required as it is possible to source a range of gear.

Ice: Ice for sideline treatment of injuries is available from nearly all service stations and

supermarkets. It is recommended that teams bring an insulated container for storing ice at

matches.

Meals: Breakfast is included daily. All other meals are own arrangement.

Itinerary Times: All the times shown on this itinerary have been booked and confirmed with the

accommodation providers and activity operators. For meal time changes please liaise directly with

the hotel. If you wish to change timings for any activities or find you are running behind schedule

please contact Total Rugby so that we can inform the operator

Vouchers: On your arrival your tour leader will be given a voucher booklet containing the vouchers

you will be required to hand over to our operators for the various activities included in your tour.

Laundry: Self-service coin operated laundry facilities are available at all the accommodation

providers you are staying at. A laundry service may be available at an additional charge, please

enquire with the hotel staff should you require this.

Security/valuables: This is your own responsibility. Valuables have been stolen before. Please never

assume that it will be okay to leave valuables unattended or gear rooms unlocked. Every attempt

will be made to assist you with your own security.

Liaison: Total Rugby staff will be available 24 hours. Please use the cell phone numbers on this

page. Our staff will not always be with you during your activities but we will check in with you each

day, either in the evening to discuss the days events and go over the next day, or in the morning.

There are other people who are also available to assist in most centres you will visit. They will

either be the local Total Rugby Coordinator or someone appointed by Total Rugby.

Luggage: Due to coach luggage capacity it is requested that each person is limited to one suitcase

and one carry-on bag. If your luggage is going to exceed this please advise Total Rugby prior to

your arrival.

Rugby Boots: New Zealand has very strict biosecurity regulations, during your flight pleasecomplete the Passenger Arrival Card supplied by the airline with care and ensure rugby boots are

clean prior to your departure.

George Whitelock

The captain of the victorious Canterbury team for the last fourcampaigns, George is an experienced player and team leader. He hasalso previously captained the 2005 New Zealand Under 19 side and theNew Zealand Under 21 side against Canada in 2007. He is a leader whotruly leads by example and is known for his incredible work rate.

George is the eldest of four brothers in the squad and was the first to beselected in the Crusaders.

George made his All Blacks debut against Italy in 2009, where he scored atry in front of a home crowd at AMI Stadium.

Matt Todd

With All Black openside flanker Richie McCaw being on sabbatical for thefirst part of the year, Matt has had more opportunity than ever to makehis mark during this Crusaders campaign.

Matt first joined the Crusaders in 2011 after a year in the Wider TrainingSquad and an impressive ITM Cup campaign for Canterbury, whichresulted in him being awarded the 2010 Canterbury player of the year. In2013, Matt was selected to play on the bench against France in the thirdtest for the All Blacks and made it on to the field in the second half for hisfirst test cap.

vineyards and wineries of North Canterbury.

Stop just south of Hanmer Springs for a New Zealand jetboat experience. The jetboat wasinvented here in New Zealand by William Hamilton in 1954 and has opened up manyotherwise inaccessible areas of New Zealand - unlike a conventional propeller the jet boathas an impeller above the water line enable it to travel through extremely shallow water (3or 75mm).

prolonged absence and to begin re-building the long tradition it hasenjoyed as a successful rugby club. This success incorporates a largenumber of regional and national representative players amongst itsalumni, including famous All Black captains such as the late Sir WilsonWhineray (an honorary Vice-President of Lincoln University Rugby Club),

Andy Dalton, Ruben Thorne and a large number of All Blacks who havebeen involved in Lincoln University Rugby. Our latest All Black is currentstudent Sam Whitelock.
