ABOUTIt seems like I was always destined to become an architect. One of my grandfathers was an engineer and the other was an aspiring architect. My father has been in the building industry for years. This unique combination has made me into a well rounded architect.

I grew up in Cicero, Indiana on Morse Lake. I have enjoyed living there my entire life. My favorite aspect of the town is the lake and the relaxing lifestyle that comes from it. I have always been a big fan of soccer (Manchester United fan) and played it my whole life. It has taught me to work hard individually and work together with others to achieve a goal. It has also strengthened my leadership abilities which have evolved from sports to every aspect of life.

Since I was very young I have been drawing. It is something that I continue to do regularly. I started drawing airplanes, boats, and cars (the Aston Martin being a favorite) and now draw buildings, furniture, and any other idea that comes to mind. I find inspiration from many things including technology (Apple), watch designs (Nixon), paintings (Monet), or other architects (Calatrava). I also enjoy making models and typically use model making as a learning tool in architecture school.

I am currently in the masters program for architecture at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. They have a great balance of design skills and technical ability. The best part about the school are the nice Midwestern people who are always willing to help.

Architecture has always been my a big part of my life. It’s been a great fit for my personality and interests. I’m excited to see where it takes me in the future.

CORAL REEF RESEARCH LAB- FALL 2011- US VIRGIN ISLANDS- 60,000 sq. ft.- RESEARCH LABS, COMMUNITY CENTER, LIVING SPACE- PLACED TOP TEN FINALIST IN COMPETITION

The design of this sustainable labrartory focuses on integrating the research of the sceintist with informing the community. Social spaces create areas where the two can intertwine and connect. The building is organized into two long arms that extend from the central labratory tower. The entire building is lifted off the ground to minimize impact on the site and to protect it from the flood plain. This is accomplished by constructing a light steel frame on top of a concrete base. On this frame, a performance skin controls the daylighting and ventilation. This allows the building to consume less energy and minimize its impact on the environment.

The design of this community center is centered around the idea of being open to change. By providing moving walls that invite the community in they will be encouraged to interact in the building. The structure of the building is celebrated an encourages interaction with the building itself. This building is a symbol for an area of Indianapolis that has a bright future.

CANOPY RESEARCH TOWER- FALL 2011- CHRISTY WOODS, MUNCIE, IN- 400 sq. ft.- 60 FT. TOWER FOR CANOPY RESEARCH/ DOCUMENTATION

The design of this woodland installation was inspired by the decaying canopy. To research and understand the canopy you must have direct access to it. To solve this problem a tower was designed for a group of researchers that will document and attempt to save the canopy. The tower has minimal impact of the ground level of the site and leans out over the canopy as a symbolic gesture of a helping hand.

AIRPLANE APARTMENT- SPRING 2011- URBAN ENVIRONMENT/ STEEP CLIFF- 2,000 sq. ft./ 300 sq. ft.- APARTMENT IN CITY/ LIVING QUARTERS ON A CLIFF

This project called for the design of an apartment in a city and living quarters in a remote location built out of used airplane parts. The design for the main apartment features the iconic shape of a jet wing throughout. The cliffside dwelling resembles the wing of a falcon in flight. This dwelling rotates out-wards for more space and better views, then tucks back into the cliff when weather conditions are harsh.

PUBLIC LIBRARY/ STUDIO- FALL 2010- SAN FRANCISCO, CA- 6,000 sq. ft.- PUBLIC ARCHITECTURE LIBRARY/ ARCHITECTURE STUDIO

This project called for a public library and a private studio. The space was organized to encourage people on the street to enter the library and see the studio. The design has a rhythmic motion that mimics the water patterns in the San Francisco Bay. The main feature is the undulating roof that symbolizes the movement of water and the never ending quest for knowledge.

TOWER OF THE CITY- SUMMER 2011- ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS- 2,200,000 sq. ft.- MIXED USE SKYSCRAPER

This tower was treated as a landmark building for the city of Rotterdam. The tower is designed with the methods and ideas of shipbuilding in mind. The overall shape is directed towards the sea and continuously changes as you move up the tower just as the seas change. The structure is exposed on the outside and celebrated at the base. The site also features a leaning clock tower and water collection pools that fill up based on the rainfall and water needs of the city.

RESEARCH CENTER- SPRING 2009- INDIANAPOLIS, IN- 20,000 sq. ft.- SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES RESEARCH CENTER

The design of this research center is centered around the structure. A struc-tural band continues around the entire building and only breaks at the en-trance. The band raises to allow the public to enter the building and lowers in the private areas. The building features a large rotating glass door that opens towards the canal and a green roof open to the public.

MUSIC PAVILLION- FALL 2010- MUNCIE, IN- 50 sq. ft.- PLAYING AND LISTENING TO MUSIC INSTALLATION

This project began with a material study with string with the final objective of designing an installation for performing and listening to music. The material study led to the discovery of the many uses of string including the movement and flexibility of controlling the space it defines. The final installation uses these discoveries to create a unique space for playing music.

MARQUETTE STUDENT UNION- FALL 2012- MILWAUKEE, WI- 50,000 sq. ft.- STUDENT UNION- *GROUP

Marquette University is currently looking to redo their student union block. We worked with the campus architect and local firm Workshop Architects to propose a new site that activated student life on campus. Our groups master plan utilized the paths cutting through the site to activate social spaces. My design of the new student union features a large winter garden that can be used as multi-use space by students or faculty. The buildings roof lifts to different levels to break up an otherwise large roof and to inform the user of different programs.
