OF THE JANEONS. THESE SHIPS ARE,IN COMMON, BUILT FOR SPEED AS WELL AS ROBUSTNESS AND, YET, LUXURY IS NOT COMPROMISED FOR.

2. Operations and InfrastructureThe basic outlay of the route is for ten Mamaers to travel from the seas outside Catania, Italy to the harbour of Alexandria, Egypt which constitutes the first phase of the route. The second phase is a short distance covered on land from Alexandria to the docks of Suez, Egypt where the Redpool would be built and ready to sail. The final phase of the travel takes the voyagers from Suez to Salsette Islands near India.

Various operation regarding the ships are discussed in detail ahead.

2.1 The Route

the starting point in Italy is Catania where the JN’s will be brought under the pretence of teaching at the university about a week before they leave. they will be taken in small individual boats to mamaers in the seas. Once the mamaers leave, we release a ship on the false trail of that of Vasco da Gama ‘s original route.

From Catania, mamaers go to Alexandria in Egypt. Then they walk to Cairo where the Redpool is being built. So from Cairo to Salsette islands

2.1.1 Phase 1The JN’s will be shifted to Italy under the pretense of teaching at the university of Catania, so they can carry all their luggage

The luggage will be placed in hinged rooms of Mamaers as per each taste

The route of transportation of Mamaers is from Italy to Africa, a little down the Nile.

This journey will beundertaken by 10 Mamaers.

Distance covered will be 1530 km and will take 30 days to complete journey.

2.1.2 Phase 2When the passengers get down in the port, the hinged rooms are removed from the Mamaersand folded into boxes.

The route of transportation of the travelling party on land

Which will cover ≈ 160 km

This journey will be undertaken by 200 full-time residents and the crew accompanying them.

Time taken to cover this route is 7 days.

2.1. 3 Phase III

The route of transportation of Redpool from Africa to Salsette Islands.

This journey will be undertaken by 1 Redpool.

•Volume of 1 barrel is 196000 GSm3.•Made of wood , crafted to be leak proof like wine barrels.•Used to store fresh water (drinking , cooking etc. ) , sea water(for cleaning), oil(for trebuchets).•Empty barrels are carried into which sea water is treated during the journey and stored.•Under extreme situations the empty barrels are used as fire wood.

2.2.2 Food storage

• The fruits are preserved by Nuts are candied using sugar syrups Fruits are dried or preserved in honey Fruit syrup in mixed with caramel to make jam

• Meat preservation includes Smoking for pork Pickling for poultry, lamb, veal and rabbit.Typical pickling agents included

brine (high in salt) and vinegar. Pepper was also used as a preservative occasionally.

Drying for fish. Cooked food is preserved using gelatin.

• Vegetables are taken in crates with Epsom salt (dried Epsom salt) in sachets to keep the crate dry from moisture.

• Mouse traps and rat poisons used excessively in storage area.• Storage area to be treated with pine oil, neemessence, acid treatment

(vinegar) and alkali treatment (lime) to prevent microbial attack.

2.2.3 Transport

Redpool: Ship will be wind driven. There will be simple lifts(2 in no.) operated

manually using pulleys to carry the stored items to each

section of the ship.Mamaers: Required parts of Mamaers along with its

contents will be transported through Isthmus of Suez by labor from Mamluks in camel carts.

All the transport will be guarded by soldiers. All travelers will be transported in guarded caravan. The JN’s will be disguised as merchants.

All required labor work will be provided by Mamluks.

2.2.4 Communication systems

External: There will be watchtowers on the deck at a

distance of 1500Gsm between each tower. Each tower will have a bell and a lantern. The bell on one tower will be linked to the one on the other by steel wires. At night, communication can be done using the lanterns. In case of a foggy weather when the visibilty is very low, the towers will communicate using the bells.

Internal: A huge bell will be present on the deck for

giving common signal in case of emergency. The workers will carry important messages

across the floors of the ship.

2.2.5 Weather contingencies:Rain: The deck is slanted so that the rainwater drains into

the sea. If needed, this water can also be collected in barrels hanging out along the sides of the ship.

Lightening: The iron masts supporting the sails will provide protection against lightning.

Storm: The sails shall be removed.

2.2.6 Civil Infrastructure• Wooden pipes coated with bitumen on the inside will be used

to drain the waste from toilets and kitchen directly into the sea.

• Due to the fragility of wooden structures, iron and steel pipes are not used for drainage.

• For providing water and raw material to the kitchen, barrels will be transported from the storage area using the pulley lifts.

Drinking Water: A fixed amount of drinking water will be provided per person, to their respective rooms, everyday by servants. A barrel with tap will be provided.Water for Personal Hygiene: Will be available in the common bathroom upstairs. Water for cooking: Will be provided to cook directly

2.2.7b Waste ManagementWooden pipelines coated with bitumen on the inside will be used to drain the waste from the bathroom directly into the sea.A dustbin will be provided to each room and all the garbage will be collected daily by the cleaners and dumped into the sea.

The individual rooms which are designed for each family in Mamaerswill be made such that it is possible to dismantle the individual room designs (as per the requirements of each family) and this exact design will be replicated onto the respective rooms in Redpool. This saves resources and also saves time.

The soldiers, who will not have guard duty over the land route, will be responsible for the transport of the goods and dismantled rooms from Mamaers. Further, slaves from Egypt (the Mamluks) will be employed for this purpose.

2.4. 1 Transportation of High- priority cargoThe high priority cargo will be put into cushioned crates made up of wood filled with fine sand and hay. They will be carried into the ship carefully by the slaves and once inside the boxes will be properly fastened in the storage area.Crates will be provided to each family.Crates will be manufactured according to the needs of individuals.

2.4.2 Techniques for ship construction(For further details refer section 1.3)Steam heating of wood for carvel : This technique is used to bend wood using a specialized equipment built for same.(Refer section 1.101 and 1.102)Molding of iron/steel: This is used for constructing the basic hull of the ship. This is used for both sail pole construction (Refer section 1.104) as well as secondary hull steel backbone unit construction. (Refer section 1.102)

3. Human factors

The safety of the JN’s is our primary concern, so keeping this in mind, we will have a week training in swimming and first aid.

The luxury comes second to us but is no less important, so we plan to keep the environment of their choice. The room’s interior design will be theirs which will be carried for the whole journey.

3.1.1 Community layoutThe JN’s are mainly localized in two floors, the one below the deck(the first image, with index) and the other two floors below the deck(image and index given). The former is the recreational floor and the latter the residential floor.

3.1.3 Open space and psychological factorsThe open space includes the decks which can be used to enjoy splendid view of the ocean. Else there is a multipurpose hall, dining area, reading hall(library) and indoor games hall.

To enchant those present by the mystic culture of India, we teach everyone yoga, which will also help ward off depression and sea sickness. The classes would be held in the multipurpose hall.

3.2 Floor plan and layoutThe room design of Mamaers and Redpool remains the same. The design is as follows.

At time of attack the workers will be called for defending the ship.

3.3.2 Contingency and safetyWe carry life jackets which coconut coir from Egypt . We have small rescue boats which otherwise will be used for fishing.

3.4 RecreationThe multipurpose hall can be used for ball room dances

and display of exhibitions.For children, the esteemed JN’s can take one day of

classes of a topic of their interest.The ladies can help about in cooking, or can have

knitting clubs. They can teach each other something of their expertise.

There is a reading room providing those present a calm environment for thinking and reading.

The indoor games room harbor games like chess and cards.

everyone would be taught star gazing and identification of sea creatures.

4. Transportation plansThe safety of the voyagers is assured to a great extent by many a misdirection, starting with the ‘convention’ of the Janeons in Catania, Italy in the University at Catania.While the military attempts to trace the movements of the members of the Janeons, the society members along with their families will be transported in rented boats to their respective Mamaers. As they depart from Catania , the false news of the Janeonsescaping to India by the route taken by Vasco da Gama in 1498 is spread . This ensures them a headstart, which is essential to the success of this plan.

A small fleet of fast ships will be deployed soon after (or at the same time) the Mamaers have departed. This gives the travelling part a tactical

advantage since time is the only key factor as speed of the Mamaers will be unmatched owing to its small size and powerful sails.

Having a member of Janeons inside the Church (Leo X) gives us the advantage of leaking a false trail leading the majority of the military forces towards

the route taken by Vasco de Gama in 1498.

The safety assured by this route is far greater than that assured by other routes for this route is common to Arab traders and mingling with that crowd and getting cover under the disguise gives them greater safety in terms of a military face-off.

Along the length of the ship(10500 GSm) the cannons will be placed on both sides clustered around the centre, rear and front.20 cannons each(total 40 cannons)are placed on either sides of the ship on the level immediately below the deck.The cannon would be put in a sand box for cushioning the recoil.5 trebuchets are placed 2100gsm apart on the deck, which would hurl oil barrels with lighted trigger

Sea creatures: Harpoons dotted with poison of the common adder and scorpions from Spain and Portugal manned by archers, one in the front and rear of the ship and 3 along each side of the ship accounts for safety from sea creatures.

4.3 Measure against sea creatures and pirates

Pirates: Safety from piracy is assured by the size of the ship, the physical strength of the structure.Further safety in the form of cannons and archers lined along the length of the ship ensures the safety of Redpool from pirates.

The carpenters present can repair any external damage to the ship.

The ship has a double hull with an iron-steel backbone.

If situation goes out of control, we anchor our ship and use the small boats(fishing boats, to reach to Salsette Islands.

5. Cost and ScheduleThe scheduling of the entire travel plan is done in dates.

Sufficient time has been accounted for in case of delays with construction and final installations in Redpool.

Costs of construction of Mamaers and Redpool, resources and aid in the form of military support and workers have been accounted for and calculated in Gold Bars.

The time taken by this route schedules the arrival of the JN’s to Salsette island is five months. Where as the time taken by the Vasco Da Gama is eleven months. Which gives us a time advantage over the military.

The sturdy design of the ship, the double hull reinforced with iron, gives enormous strength to the ship preventing minor accidents turning fatal.The route plotted and the decoys planned give the voyagers a tactical advantage since the time taken by this route against the route taken by Vasco da Gama is one-half.The overall infrastructure of the ships, both Mamaers and Redpool is sound and complete in terms of preparation and execution. The management of the ship is well looked into with special focus being given to make the travel as peaceful and non-stressful, to keep them in the best of mental health.The transportation of all the cargo is taken care of by the slaves hired form Egypt with several guards overlooking the process.Overall, this entire plan is the safest for the JNs as the time duration is small, the chances of being attacked upon by the military is less and further the safety of the disguise as traders during the land journey ensures their covers.
