WCS ANNOUNCEMENTS STUDENT OF THE WEEK

    Anna Rose Williams

“Anna Rose has such a kind Zoom demeanor. She always gives good feedback to let everyone know she is listening and involved. Her eyes are

consistently kind and her smile is infectious! She is one of those quiet leaders that doesn't seem to realize what a calming force she has on her peers. Anna is always working and always growing -- I can't wait to get her in a physical classroom to witness her in live action!” - Dr. Gupton

    See You on Campus Soon!

Don’t forget that as of now, all WCS 6th grade and 9th grade students will return to campus on Friday August 28th. All WCS students (for us 9th -12th) will return to campus on Monday, August 30th. More information is included in this Wolf Tales email and situations are subject to change. We will also be sharing an updated student handbook with additional information concerning the transition to back-to-campus learning that we will review in advisory classes.

    SCIENCE HIGHLIGHTS

    Studying Ecosystems

Students in AP Environmental Science are creating eco-columns to study environmental systems. Mrs. Cotton sent home supply packs so students have been able to work on them from home. Eventually fish will be added as well! Have any fun name suggestions for the new “eco-fish?” buddies?

    STUDENT DRIVERS CLASS TOOLS

    Bring Headphones!

Since we are using even more video / audio components in classes, it’s important that students bring their Chromebook-compatible headphones to school every day when we return to campus.

    Checkpoints Classes Starting Soon

It’s already time for our first Checkpoints classes! Updates can always be viewed in the Checkpoints section towards the bottom of our newsletter every week. Classes start at 5:30pm and here are the first few dates: 8/26, 8/31, 9/28, 10/19 - Students sign up HERE.

    STUDENT COUNCIL

    Student Council Survey

All students received a link to a google survey this week, from Student Council.

We would like to offer to pair up the new 9th graders with an upperclassman who shares their same interests and/or academy. The upperclassman would touch base via emails with the 9th grader to make themselves available for answering questions about the school. We also have interest lists to see who might be interested in after-school clubs; depending on the interest level and requirement for a staff sponsor, students can form a club with other students and use space at school. There are other clubs that are led by staff that meet regularly already. Check it Out! 9th grader or new to RNHS: CLICK HERE 10th - 12th grade: CLICK HERE

    CAMPUS PROCEDURES

    Seating for Lunch on Campus

When we return to campus it is important that we follow some important procedures to keep eachother safe and healthy. We encourage students to eat outside whenever possible. Many students have shared plans to bring items like towels or mats to sit on outside which we think is a great idea! When we do have to eat inside, lunch rules will be posted on classroom doors and in the hallways to remind you to socially distance, clean up after yourself, and to indicate max number of people allowed to be in each room at a time. It is also going to be important to take note of the people that you sit around (6 feet apart) for contact tracing purposes. Keep these things in mind and we can’t wait to see you!

    CLASS ELEMENTS

    What Are Progress Trackers?

Some of you may have noticed that we’re using progress trackers in class now (see image). Because students have the opportunity to move through class materials at their own pace, especially during remote periods, progress trackers help students see what they’ve completed and where to go next in their courses. It also allows students to see which other students are working on the same materials so teachers can group students together for assistance or to participate in peer to peer collaborations. Progress trackers don’t show grades, they just show if a student is currently working on something or when an assignment is completed. If you would like to see the progress tracker for a specific class, check out your class space in Schoology.

    YEARBOOKS

    Yearbook: October 3rd

We finally have a delivery date for our 2019/2021 yearbooks! They will be available for pickup from Renaissance Oct. 3rd! If we are on-campus at that time, we will be distributing them on the first floor during lunch for a couple of days and then from Mrs. Leatherman’s room after that. There will be a couple of extra copies if you didn’t get a chance to order one in the spring, but it will be first come, first served! Thank you for your patience and we’re excited to see all of the special moments captured from our short 2019/2020 school year. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Leatherman at: [email protected].

    CLUBS TECH ROUTINES

    D&D Adventures Await

One of our student led clubs is already scoping out interest for members this year! If you are interested you can check out the Renaissance D&D Schoology group sponsored by Mrs. Leatherman ([email protected]) or group leaders Ellerie Spradlin, senior and Victoria Kennely, senior. Contact Mrs. Leatherman if you would like to be added to the Schoology group.

    One More Reminder!

Please make sure to completely shut down your Chromebooks EVERY EVENING! If you don’t you won’t receive any important security and programming updates and that may keep you from being able to use the Chromebook the next day.

    SCHOOL SUPPLIES

    Supply & Fee Reminder

Since we are starting later than usual, we wanted to give you another copy of the school supply lists and reminder of voluntary class fees. The teachers have tried to keep the lists as specific as possible to their classes. There are supplies needed in each classroom that are tied to the curriculum and we appreciate the assistance in being able to purchase those items that the teachers feel would benefit the specific needs in each class. All supply and fee lists are attached to the Wolf Tales email.

CHECKPOINTS CLASS: NEXT CLASS 8/26 at 5:30pm

REMINDERS: • DO NOT TURN AROUND IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD DRIVEWAYS WHEN DROPPING OFF STUDENTS. • Every parent must sign in when you come into the school. The purpose of the Checkpoints program is to facilitate family involvement in the early months when teens are able to drive on their own. Ultimately, the goal is to reduce teen crashes and violations received by teen drivers. All high schools in Williamson County Schools have implemented training for the Checkpoints program. Training requires new drivers (does not matter the age) and their parent to participate in a free one hour training. The Checkpoints program has 4 checkpoints and parents and students will draft their first checkpoint on the driving agreement during the training. Following the training, students are eligible to receive a parking permit for RNHS parking lot. During the course of the year, several trainings will be offered for students and their parents. If your student is interested in attending a Checkpoints class at Renaissance within the next 2 months, please fill out the Google form HERE. A parent must accompany the student to the class. We hold the classes in the evening to better accommodate schedules. Please note that this class is required to obtain a parking pass to the Renaissance High parking lot. If you have any questions, please contact our School Resource Officer, Officer Couey.

    ORDERING LUNCH? DELIVERY POLICY

Renaissance High has lunches you can purchase through Williamson County schools. Lunches are to be ordered at the front desk, and should be ordered before 1st period begins (no later than 8:15). They are then delivered at lunchtime. Lunch prices are $3.25 per lunch for students. If you choose to purchase a lunch, there are 2 payment options. If you choose to pay by cash / check, we can only accept this on Monday mornings. Please make checks out to Winstead Elementary School, & reference your student’s name. Cash or checks will not be accepted during the week. The other option is to pay through the school lunch website below which can be loaded anytime. Free & reduced lunch is honored. Click HERE for more info about depositing money into your account or qualifying for free and reduced lunch.

Regular Day lunch break is from 12:15-12:45. Students may order outside lunches from their choice of several local vendors / restaurants / etc. However, students must have lunch ready and eat during the assigned break and may not leave class to order lunch or make lunch arrangements. Any lunches delivered before lunch will stay at the front desk until lunch time. Any lunch delivered after lunch time will remain at the front desk until the end of the school day. PLEASE PAY YOUR TIP ONLINE. Renaissance is limiting visitors and will need to have contact-free deliveries. There will be strict guidelines for eating in classrooms during lunch time this year and each room will have a max capacity for social distancing purposes. Make sure your sstudent understands that they can also enjoy their lunch in the designated break areas around the school such as the basement lounge, outdoor picnic tables or the courtyard. Students will not be allowed to sit outside of class or take food into their class to eat once lunch is over. Please discuss lunch options with your child to avoid this.

    SCHOOL HOURS STUDENT ILLNESS

Our regular Open School hours are from 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. This is when we have supervision in the building by office staff or teachers. Some of our student clubs also meet before or after these school hours, but have an assigned staff supervisor. We must ask that unless students have an appointment or an activity after these hours that they not be in our building. We cannot supervise students during these times. Students may visit the Williamson County Public Library after school hours on most days. Please make transportation arrangements for your student based on these times.

If your child texts or calls you from school saying they are sick, refer them to the office so we can assess them. If we need to send them home sick, it is an excused absence. If your student calls you and you pick them up, you may be asked to bring a medical note.

    COVID-19 PROCEDURES

Please make sure to review the WCS Covid-19 procedures and guidelines for on-campus instructions. As things continue to evolve, we will update our parents and learning community to make sure we are fostering transparency and support the health of our Renaissance family.
