HSDPA WorkshopRNC measurement management outlines the management of periodic performance measurements in the RNC
Periodic measurement means that performance indicators produced in the network element are periodically collected according to the defined measurement schedule
The data can be stored locally in the network element and/or be transferred to the Network Management System (NMS, NSN NetAct)
In addition to collecting raw data, the network element can perform post processing operations for the data, for example, KPI calculation and threshold monitoring
In addition to periodic measurements, there are also other means available for performance monitoring in the RNC
Online Monitoring and Subscriber Trace provide detailed real-time monitoring of the network functionality

The selection of an individual measurement depends
on the KPI to be measured. If specific feature like *
location services or Service Area Broadcast is
not used or enabled, measurements should be switched
off. Some others like RCPM are optional measurements.

Setting-up UTRAN Radio Network Measurements
…is basically a static procedure and is a logical consequence from operators Performance Measurement strategy, possible from NE or NetAct
This is the procedure in NE:
Open Application Launcher on RNC via OSS and GUIServer
Click “Measurement Management” (for radio)
Click “NE Measurement Explorer” (for Transport and HW”
Set-up Measurement Objects according strategy
Measurement Objects
Select appropriate Transport or Hardware Measurement
Select proper
to start
Note: In RU10 it is possible to activate ATM VCC measurements on all virtual channels of one RNC with one click
