REV. 0 . support t h e NESHAP (Nat iona l Emissiori Standards f o r Hazardous A i r P o l l u t a n t s , 40CFR61 Subpart H I compliance assessment conducted by Westinghouse Hanford Company (WHC)

2.0 OBJECTIVE

The o b j e c t i v e o f t h i s t e s t p lan i s t o c o l l e c t data by measurement and i d e n t i f i c a t i o n of t h e gamma emissions from t h e 296-A-10 stack a t PUREX us ing p o r t a b l e gamma spectroscopy.

3 .0 SCOPE

Th is t e s t p lan app l i es on l y t o t h e PUREX stack 296-A-10 HEPA f i l t e r s f o r t h e measurement, i d e n t i f i c a t i o n , and q u a n t i f i c a t i o n o f gamma r a d i a t i o n isotopes which may be emi t ted . gamma spectrometer c a l i b r a t e d t o t h e s tack HEPA f i l t e r geometry descr ibed be l ow.

This w i l l be accomplished by us ing a p o r t a b l e

4.0 DESCRIPTION OF TEST

Gamma r a d i a t i o n emi t ted from t h e 296-A-l0*HEPA f i l t e r s w i l l be measured us ing a por tab ' le gamma spectrometer (Microspec-1 o r equ iva len t ) Measurements w . i l 1 correspond t o s p e c i f i c l o c a t i o n s . spectrometer w i l l be c a l i b r a t e d t o t h e stack HEPA f i l t e r geometry be fore ac tua l measurements a re made. Background measurements w i l l be taken a t t h e t e s t s i t e .

5 .O EXPECTED RESULTS

Several gamma spect ra a re expected t o be c o l l e c t e d . The data w i l l be used t o es t imate t h e p o t e n t i a l unabated annual re lease of r a d i o a c t i v e ma te r ia l and t h e dose t o t h e o f f s i t e maximally exposed i n d i v i d u a l ( M E I ) . The 296-A-10 s tack i s charac ter ized w i t h Cs-137: alpha and beta e m i t t e r s i nc lude Pu-2:39/240 and Sr-90 which w i l l be r a t i o e d t o t h e Cs-137 concent ra t ion .
