RMC 7.5.3.1 – Web-based Authoring Tech Preview Lab

The Web-based Authoring tech preview, introduced in RMC 7.5.3.1, enables subject matter experts to contribute

Method Content via a web-based interface. When this feature graduates from Tech Preview status, subject matter

experts will no longer have to install the Rational Method Composer (RMC) thick client. Instead, they can use

Rational DOORS Next Generation (DNG), which is a web-based tool normally used for defining requirements. We

have used a customized DNG project template with attributes and link types that are mapped into RMC.

The long-term strategy is to have an RMC extension to DNG that can replace the need for the RMC thick client.

Initially, however, the approach is to export from RMC into DNG, subject matter experts contribute via DNG’s web

interface, and that content is then imported into RMC for additional changes and for publishing.

The goal of this Tech Preview is to gather customer feedback regarding the suitability of the DNG interface for

authoring method content, and feedback on what are the highest value capabilities of RMC that should be provided

by an RMC add-on. This Lab walks you through how to explore the tech preview.

You may use your own installation of RMC and DNG – or you may use a cloud-based image.

Task 0. Download and Install

In this task you will download a sample practice library which you will use in the later tasks. Note that this task is

only necessary if you intend to use your own installation. If you are using the cloud-based image then you may skip

this task and proceed to Task 1.
