COURSE INFORMATION

COURSE INFORMATIONWhy Spanish?

Spanish is the fastest growing language in the world. It is also the second most spoken language after Mandarin. It is fun to learn as it brings you closer to its music, culture, literature, food and people. Span-ish opens opportunities for travel and business in over 20 different countries.

It is the second official language of Brazil and the second most common language in the United States. The United States has the second biggest Spanish community after Mexico and it is followed by Spain. It is also estimated that by 2030 there will be more Spanish Language Speakers in the States than English speakers.

Why Colegio Español?

We follow the levels to learn Spanish established by the Common European Framework of Reference and make use of effective and enjoyable material.

We teach Spanish in a progressive manner following a communicative approach. We also provide spac-es where the student can interact and practice the acquired knowledge in an active manner. We encour-age extra fun activities outside our classes such as Spanish or Latin American parties, cooking courses, dancing classes, Spanish movie nights and much more.

Our teachers are native Spanish speakers from either South America or Spain and will assist the students in their learning process in a personalised manner.

Learning Program Based on the method for teaching Spanish suggested by the Cervantes Institute in Spain and adher-ing to the recommendations set according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Modern European Languages we have adopted a Spanish course that follows a (3) level approach aligned with the European Framework as follows:

Spanish is a universal Language. It is important in the international, diplomatic and business world. It is one of the official languages of the United Nations and of the African Union. Spanish as other European Languages in South Africa are considered a scarce skill, which facilitates finding jobs and posts with in-ternational companies. The question as to why to learn Spanish should be therefore answered: why not?

El Colegio Español is a private Spanish language institute operating in South Africa since 2008. It is the first and biggest Spanish Language and Cultural centre in Gauteng. It opens new opportunities to all South Africans and provides a friendly and interactive environment to learn Spanish.

COURSE DURATION AND INTENSITY We have merged levels A1-A2 in one level for beginners, level B1-B2 in a second higher level for inter-mediate students and level B2-C1 in a third level for advanced students.

Each level takes 80 hours of classes period. However, we highly recommend the same amount of hours of self study outside classes for better results. For DELE examinations (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera) the students need to spend at least 40 extra hours of classes for each exam level.

These timeframes are guidelines. Each student is different and one level may take a longer time to com-plete.

It is also important to remember that learning a language is an ongoing process and it never ends. For that reason we also provide conversation classes for those who need to practice during or after finishing all the courses.
