Nelson Sports Complex Pool RentalsThe Nelson Sports Complex Pool is available for private rentals. Included in the fee is use of the entire lap swim pool with diving boards. Pool and Splash Pad Closures Pools close in regards to…• Air temperature is below 68 degrees or if inclement weather prohibits openings.• Patron attendance is below 20 within a one-hour time frame.• Home swim meets at PGP or NSC.• If there is a mechanical breakdown at the pool.• If the pool closes at opening time for inclement weather, please continuously check the hotline for a determination of reopening. • If inclement weather occurs during evening hours, the pool will not reopen. • PGP Pool Hotline: 847-397-4800• NSC Pool Hotline: 847-818-3200, x404 (updated 30 minutes prior to opening)• If the Thor Guard Lightning Prediction System sounds, the pool will close until the all clear sounds.

Pool Regulations • No food or drink is allowed in other than specially designated and controlled sections of the pool area. • Personal conduct within the pool facility must be such that the safety of self and others is not jeopardized. No running or rough play.• Only clean footwear, baby strollers or wheelchairs are allowed in the pool area or bathhouse. • All apparel worn in the pool shall be clean. Bathing suits with liners are recommended. Staff has the right to deny access into the pool if we feel your apparel is not clean or suitable for our public facility.• Only Coast Guard approved flotation devices are allowed in the pool. Parents/Guardians must be within arms distance if a child is wearing a flotation device. Children are not allowed on slides and diving boards with flotation devices. • No fins, masks and or snorkels are allowed in the pool.• All children who are not toilet-trained shall wear tightly fitting rubber or plastic pants or swim diapers. • Diving is only permitted in the diving well area. • You must be at least 48’’ to go down the slide. No exceptions. • No one under 8 years of age is allowed in the pool unless under adult supervision. • Pool management has the authority to implement and enforce rules that are more stringent or that supplement those listed here. • All children must be supervised by an adult while in the tot pool.

Private Lessons/Semi-Private Lessons We offer 30 minute lessons with a lower instructor-to-student ratio. This is for all ages and level of swimmers. To schedule lessons at Plum Grove Park, please call Wendy at 847-397-4800. To schedule lessons at Nelson Sports Complex, please call Tim at 847-818-3200, x224. All lessons depend oninstructor availability. Registration for these lessons will start June 10.

Learn to Swim classes are held Monday through Thursday. There will be a test the first day of class to determine if your child is registered for the appropriate level. Changes may be made if the child could benefit from a different class. Lessons will be held in cold or rainy weather either on the deck or indoors. Make-up classes are held on Fridays.

Learn to Swim Class Descriptions Parents/Tots: 6 month to 3 yrs old (Parents must get into water)This class is designed to help familiarize infants/ children to the water and prepare them for the swim lesson program. Parents will learn safety information and techniques to help teach their children outside of class.

Tots: 3 to 5 years oldThis class teaches fundamentals of water safety and swimming skills. Students learn basic skills and various strokes. Tots will use the tot pool and lap pool.

Level 1: Introduction to Water SkillsStudents will learn to feel comfortable in the water with the assistance of the instructor. All students will be taught pool safety rules, introduction skills, including floating and kicking.

Level 2: Fundamentals of Aquatic SkillsStudents will review and build on skills taught in level 1. Students will learn to float on their front and back unassisted. Front and back crawl will be taught as well.

Level 3: Stroke DevelopmentStudents will further develop the skills previously taught. Introduction to safety tips, diving and treading water are part of this course.

Level 4: Stroke ImprovementStudents will build on the skills that they have learned thus far. This class develops confidence and refine advance skills. Diving, treading water, breast stroke and side stroke will be taught.

Level 5/6: Students will continue to refine strokes while developing endurance. The butterfly stroke will be introduced along with open race turns. Students work on breathing techniques and will swim longer distances. At the end of this level, students should consider joining the swim team.

This program focuses on the self improvement and skill development of the individual swimmer, while building a strong competitive team. Children ages 5-18 who are able to swim 25 yards of the front crawl using rhythmic breathing, are welcome to join. Practices will be offered at 2 locations. There will be a parent meeting on May 7 at 6:30 pm at the Community Center. Our swim team is a recreational and competitive swim program that features five age groups, 8 & under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15 & over. League meets take place on Wednesday nights. Transportation will not be provided to the meets. This program is designed to help participants improve swimming skills and techniques within a format similar to more intense year-long programs. Jr. Lifeguarding 101, Ages 11-14Are you someone who might be interested in becoming a lifeguard? This class offers a great chance to learn the same safety skills used by our lifeguards. Ellis & Associates skills including CPR, first aid, multiple rescue situations and back-boarding will be taught by one of our lifeguards. Each participant will have a chance to shadow a lifeguard while on shift to experience the excitement! Summer Day Camps

Summer Kids Day Out/Kinder Kids Too!This program allows children who are registered for Tot Camp to spend an extra afternoon participating in fun activities at the Community Center. Chil-dren just finished with kindergarten are welcome also. Program time is noon-3 pm, Mon.-Fri. Campers bring their lunch and juice box. Register Mon.-Fri. at the Community Center Recreation Office. $10 per day.

Tot Camp, Ages 3-5Three week sessions and five day option! Ease your child into a camp experience with our two, three, or five day camp. Kids participate in camp theme weeks centered on stories, crafts and other activities. They also enjoy time at our playground and once a week play at the tot pool. All 3 year olds must be 3 by the start of camp. Children who just completed kindergarten are still welcome in this camp. A camp t-shirt will be provided. All campers must be toilet trained and able to take care of all toileting needs.This camp meets from 10 am-noon at the Community Center. Options: Mon.,Wed.,Fri., $50/$70, Tue./Thu., $35/$53

Junior Kid’s Camp, Ages 5-6, (must be 5 by 6/10/13)$270/$320Come join the fun in this camp designed for 5-6 year olds. We know that children of this age have their own set of needs and we have a summer of fun planned. JKC includes arts, crafts, games, field trips, swim time (not during public swim), special events and more. Bring a sack lunch and juice box daily. This camp meets at the Community Center from 9 am-4 pm.

Camp Registration and Payment InformationPayment plans will only be offered with automatic withdrawal via credit cards. All camp programs must be paid in full at the time of registration if not choosing the payment plan. Participants are required to fill out a Camper Information Packet prior to the start of camp. Individual Week option registration begins Tuesday, May 28, upon availability. This packet will be available May 1st and is due back by May 31st.

School Age Camp, Entering Grades 1st-6th$310/$385This traditional camp includes games, music, art projects, crafts, outdoor adventures and swimming. Campers will also be working on community service projects and activities to help youth develop team building and leadership skills. Each camp will offer participants field trip opportunities and events throughout the summer. Campers should bring a sack lunch and a drink each day. Please remember that refrigeration is not available. Camp is offered from 9 am-4 pm. There are additional programs for before and after camp.

Go Girl Go! - Sports & Craft Camp, Ages 7-12This camp is a great way to introduce basketball, soccer, hockey, t-ball and more in an all-girl environment. Basic skills are taught and games are played at the end of each class. The girls will play sports for the first half of camp and do a craft for the second half. The last class will be a sport of their choice and will tye-dye a t-shirt.

Basketball Skills Camp, Ages 7-12This camp will help boys and girls to improve their basketball skills, such as dribbling, passing, shooting and rebounding. Participants will learn the proper defensive stance, practice zone defense, and experience man-to-man defense through challenging drills and structured games. Baseball & Softball Skills Camps, Ages 7-12Slide into summer with this baseball and softball camp. This camp will focus on the fundamentals of hitting, base running, pitching and defense. Our Registration ProcessClasses begin in September and run through May. Registration remains open as long as space is available. To register a child for preschool, tot time or pre-kindergarten, parents need to bring a $25 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit and a birth certificate or passport. Proof of immunization is required at the start of class. All four year olds must be 4 by September 1. Three year olds must be 3 on or before their start date. All children need to be completely toilet trained.Auto WithdrawalWe offer automatic withdrawal to enable parents to make smaller payments on a schedule by using a credit card and signing an auto withdrawal form. Award Winning Dance CompanyCompany members take one intensive class a week consisting of tap, jazz and ballet curriculum. Members participate in various community events such as the Holiday Tour, Great America, 4th of July Parade, fundraisers, competitions and conventions. Theater students will be asked to help with simple props and costumes. A complete rehearsal and show schedule and all other class requirements will be distributed in class. Tumbling (Co-ed) This program specializes in floor and trampoline skills. Specifically designed for the needs of cheerleaders and aspiring cheerleaders. The class features a strong emphasis on tumbling and jumping skills. There are 2 levels of tumbling classes offered; beginner (1) and intermediate (2). Girls & Boys Gymnastic TeamsThe Girl’s Gymnastic Team follows the 10 level Junior Olympic programs which are regulated by USA Gymnastics (USAG), our sport’s governing body. The Boys Gymnastic Team follows AAU Standards. We currently train athletes who compete USAG levels 4-9 and High School (IHSA). The team travels to competitions with other park districts and gymnastics clubs. Pre-requisite for joining the team is successful completion of pre-team training and/or an evaluation by the team director. Team fees are charged on a monthly basis. High School Girls This class is for girl’s grades 8-12 who compete on their high school gymnastics team. The gymnasts will be trained to maximize their personal potential to compete according to the High School (IHSA) requirements. Disc GolfNorth Salk Park, 3160 Owl DriveThe object of the game is to traverse a course from beginning to end in the fewest number of throws of the disc. Disc Golf provides low impact aerobic exercise which is geared to all ages. The first hole is by the parking lot at North Salk Park and players continue toward the Nelson Sports Complex across the creek to the sled hill, up along the bike path to the Library and back across the creek. Disc Golf tee boxes and targets are identified just like a golf course. No reservations necessary. Map of course is available on rmparks.org.

House League Flag Football Are you interested in playing in a non-contact football league? Player safety will be a priority as we focus on the fundamentals of football. Through positive coaching, players will learn how to throw, catch and run plays with an emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship and skill positions. The first Saturday will be a skill session run by SportsKids Inc. with the help of parent volunteer coaches. The second Saturday will consist of controlled scrimmages working on offense, defense and learning the plays. The remaining Saturdays will be games overseen by SportsKids’ officials and parent volunteer coaches. Coaching information, league play and rules will be distributed. SportsKids will referee games in a teaching style. A team shirt will be provided. The league will be run as a co-op with the Arlington Heights Park District.

Summer Outdoor Quick Start Programs Quick Start Tennis is a program that is provided in cooperation with the United States Tennis Association (USTA). This program was originally designed for youth ages 4-10 to develop skills and play tennis games utilizing smaller rackets, low compression tennis balls and smaller courts. This program helps develop proper technique and is great fun for all ages. Youth progress at a faster pace through each skill test using tennis balls on tennis courts designed for their own unique abilities and needs. MWTP has adapted this program to be extended to all ability and age groups including adults.

Celebrating over 50 years of youth baseball

We are excited about the upcoming 2012 baseball season, and hope you will join us as we continue to serve the area boys and girls as the local house baseball league for the Rolling Meadows area.

Our goal is to provide a safe and fun atmo-sphere to teach our youth the fundamentals. RMYB includes all ages from seven to sev-enteen.

RMYB is a fun, family oriented baseball league that has been in existence for over 50 years with a proud tradition of baseball excellence.

Pre-season conditioning. The Rolling Mead-ows High School Fieldhouse is available on Sundays in January, February and March for registered players to play catch, workout and take batting practice in the batting cage.

The league’s Annual Super Saturday Cel-ebration takes place each June. All RMYB teams play at the same park throughout the day. It’s a great day of family fun, with food, activities and skill contests.

The Rolling Meadows Park District is dedicated to the idea that leisure is an important component of life. Adult Hockey LeagueThe Rolling Meadows Park District offers several skill level divisions to fit any players ability (B, C1, C2, C3, C4, H1, H2, H3, H4). The league is designed to provide participants with a fun, competitive atmosphere. Registration is taken on a team or an individual basis. Each team is guaranteed 20 games including at least one playoff game. Days and times of games are on a random schedule.

40 and Over League Join our Fall Over 40 League with C and H divisions! All games will be played at the West Meadows, Nelson Sports Complex, Hoffman Estates, Oakton, and Glenview Ice Arenas. The season will consist of pre-season games, regular season games and playoffs.

Hockey Tots (Level 1), (Ages 3-9) Our Hockey Tot/Learn to Skate class is the newest addition to the Renegades Program. This class will put beginner skaters on track to our Hockey Program. All the same features of the RMPD Learn to Skate class with a bit of hockey flare. First time skaters will learn: the proper way to fall, marching while standing and moving, swizzles, push and glide and two foot glide. Basic hockey activities such as playing with pucks and shooting will be incorporated into the end of each class, when skaters are balanced and confident enough to do so. No experience is needed. Skates, helmet, and sticks are available for use in class at each ice arena.

Pre-Mites (Level 2) Beginner Pre-Mites is for players passing through the Hockey Tot class, Learn to Skate Tots 2 class, Pre-Alpha class, or can skate the length of the ice with a push and glide motion (not marching or walking motion). Class covers all the basic skating techniques used in the game of hockey, along with an introduction to puck-handling, passing and shooting, all in a fun and educational atmosphere. This class is intended to give kids the basic introduction to the sport of ice hockey so they may continue their education of the game for years to come.

Pre-Mite LeaguePre-Mite League is your player’s first introduction to the game of hockey. The league follows the USA Hockey Initiation program format of cross ice games. The ice is divided into smaller sections and each section has it’s own game. This format allows for the beginner skater to have more success while enjoying the first experience in a game setting. Scoring is not kept, to decrease the competitive-ness of the games and keep the emphasis on learning and having fun. During games positions are not followed, thus allowing for a free flowing game that is easier for the kids to enjoy and better for their skill development. All Pre-Mites are recommended to join the Pre-Mite League as an addition to their regular class. All games and teams are divided by talent level and not by age.

Hockey Tot Transition ClassesHave you enjoyed one of our Give Hockey a Try events and want to join a class mid-session? Hockey Tot Transition class is the perfect thing. Join a class at the mid-way point at a pro-rated fee. Register for half a session for $40, it’s the perfect way to get started in hockey without the commitment of a full 10 week session. Rolling Meadows Renegades Spring HockeyThe Rolling Meadows Park District Renegades Youth Hockey is a recreational hockey program that encourages play at the house league and pre-hockey level. Our program is designed to give all kids a fair and equal opportunity to play ice hockey.

Our coaching staff focuses on the development of our youth players by placing an emphasis on learning individual skills, team concepts, sportsmanship and fun without the pressure of winning.

The Mite players will play in-house USA Hockey ADM cross ice games only. The Squirts through Midgets will play in the North Shore League for the Spring. This Spring the Mite Majors will also have the opportunity to participate in “full ice” games to help enhance their skills and knowledge of the game. Goalie discount is for provided for full time goalies only. The goalies are also able to participate in weekly clinics performed by PADS School of Goaltending at no charge.

The program offers Spring Break Skills Clinics, along with a Mini Camp and Summer Camp.

Learn to Skate at the Nelson Sports ComplexOur Learn-to-Skate program follows the guidelines set by the Ice Skating Institute of America. Classes for beginners through advanced skaters are offered. This system provides a yard stick and is geared to the recreational skater. All instructors are qualified professionals trained in I.S.I techniques. Freestyle Practice IceIn addition to the full schedule of group classes, the Ice Arena also provides daily freestyle ice sessions for practice and private lessons. This is the time when skaters can work individually on their jumps, spins and other maneuvers, rehearse competitive programs or work with their private coaches. These sessions typically begin at 6 am each weekday, ending some days at 6 pm. These ice slots may be contracted at the beginning of a skating season for a reduced rate, or may be paid for on a walk-on basis if space is available.

C.A.R.E. Children’s Activity, Recreation and Enrichment, Registration begins in AprilC.A.R.E. is a cooperative program between Community Consolidated School District 15, Palatine Park District and Rolling Meadows Park District. C.A.R.E. is a before and after school program for children of working parents. We offer a variety of activities including: arts, crafts, snacks, gym activities, outdoor play, active and quiet games, computer use, as well as time to do homework and read. The program is for children in kindergarten through age 12. The before school portion of the program runs from 7am until school starts and after school runs until 6pm. A full day program is offered on Institute days and most school holidays for a separate fee. Full day programs may be at a different site than the home site.

The Rolling Meadows Park District is proud to be a member of Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA). Throughout the northwest suburbs, NWSRA is the leader in providing outstanding recreational opportunities for children and adults with disabilities. NWSRA’s team of full-time Therapeu-tic Recreation Professionals and trained part-time staff offer a multitude of year-round program offerings including sports, camping, social programs and more. Increased self esteem, physical and social skills development, making friends and having fun are just a few of the benefits of participating in NWSRA programs. Camps, trips, and special events are also available at various times throughout the year.

Inclusion assistance is provided by NWSRA to those individuals who wish to participate in their home park district program. When registering, the parent of an individual with a disability should inform the park district (and NWSRA, if desired) of any accommodation needed in order for the individual to successfully participate in the program. The park district staff will then contact NWSRA for assistance with the accommodation.

NWSRA is hiring leaders for positions of inclusion as well as NWSRA programs. If you have an interest in working with individuals with disabilities, contact NWSRA at 847-392-2848 to discuss the possibilities.

Special Leisure Services Foundation, the fundraising arm of NWSRA, partners with public and private corporations, foundations and individuals to support and promote for children and adults with disabilities. Facility and Park Improvements The Park District has a Five-Year Capital replacement plan that serves to guide the Park Board in prioritizing projects based on the financial impact to the budget. Community members, staff and the Park Board suggest improvements. Many facility enhancements are possible due to the aggressive approach the District takes to seeking grants to offset the costs of improvements. RefundsThe Rolling Meadows Park District reserves the right to cancel, postpone or combine classes or change instructors. A full refund will be issued for any program cancelled by the Park District. If the class has begun, a pro-rated amount will be determined based on the date of refund application for injury, moving, schedule changes and satisfaction issues. A doctor’s note must accompany the refund request for injuries. Requests will be honored until the last class date of the session. Certain restrictions apply to camp, pool, skating or fitness passes, sports leagues, tickets to entertainment/sports events, birthday parties, ice skating programs, room rentals and contracted programs. Refunds for trips and contractual programs will only be issued if the spot can be filled from the waiting list. Refunds will not be issued for classes that participants are unable to attend. Refund requests can be made by phone or in person. Fees paid by credit cards will be refunded through charge account credits.Refund check processing takes 10-15 business days.

Minimum & MaximumAll programs have a minimum and maximum registration requirement. Please register early. If you do not get into the class you have selected, we will put your name on a waiting list and let you know if a new class will be created or a spot opens up.

ADA ComplianceRolling Meadows Park District complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act, legislation which prohibits discrimination on the basis of a disability. Under the ADA, the Park District makes reasonable accommodations in recreation programs to enable participation by an individual with a disability who meets essential eligibility requirements for that leisure program and facilities. The ADA, which took effect in 1992, requires that recreation programs offered by the Park District be available in the most integrated setting appropriate for each individual.

General Information

Board Meeting InformationAs a separate Municipal Governing Agency, the Rolling Meadows Park District’s purpose is to provide parks, facilities and recreation programs for the children and adults of the community. The Park District’s policies for operation are governed by 7 elected Commissioners. Meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm at Park Central, 3000 Central Road. Copies of the board minutes and current agenda may be viewed at rmparks.org and at the Rolling Meadows Library.

The Park District is a local public entity and is subject to the Illinois Governmental and Governmental Employees Tort Immunity Act that provides certain immunities and defenses to claims for damages made against local public entities. Without these statutory immunities, fees associated with recreational activities, programs, properties and/or facilities could well be prohibitive.

Waiver Forms RequiredFor insurance purposes, your signature is required on the waiver portion of all registrations. Please read the waiver in full before signing. Registrations cannot be processed without the waiver por-tion signed. Additional waiver may be required for high risk programs.

Catalog InformationThis catalog is prepared months in advance of its delivery. Sometimes there are errors or program changes by the time the catalog is published. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and when errors do occur, our staff will advise you of the change as quickly as possible. The most current catalog copy, with updates, will always be posted on our website, rmparks.org. (bottom left corner).

Residents & Non-ResidentsThe Rolling Meadows Park District is a separate, tax supported agency apart from the City of Rolling Meadows. This means that you may have a City of Rolling Meadows address but do not pay taxes to the Rolling Meadows Park District. Therefore, all participants that are non-taxpaying residents of the park district are required to pay an additional fee depending on the program. Non-Residents are welcome to join any Rolling Meadows Park District program. A quick way to determine your park district resident status is to look at your tax bill; the park district that you pay taxes to will be listed.

Community AgreementsWe are fortunate to have intergovernmental agreements with School District 15 and 214 and St. Colette for usage of their indoor and outdoor spaces.

Brochure AdvertisingThe Rolling Meadows Park District offers area businesses an opportunity to place your four-color advertisement on the inside of our seasonal program catalogs. The program catalog is delivered to over 8,000 homes three times per year. An additional 2,000 copies of this informational program are placed at our facilities providing residents and non residents with information on programs, special events, camps, facilities and parks. This is an excellent opportunity to get information about your business into every home in Rolling Meadows. Important Class Cancellation InformationPlease don’t wait until the last minute to register for a program. At some point prior to the first class, we need to decide if the enrollment is sufficient to hold the class. Typically ONE WEEK prior to the start of the program. Signing up on the first day of class might be too late, so don’t hesitate. Avoid the chance of losing your favorite class due to low enrollment. You may find some programs/events in this catalog do have strict registration deadlines. They will be listed separately. Register early!

Have You Moved Or Have Changed Information?Please notify the Park District with your change of address, phone number or email address. It is important that we have current information. Registration forms have a box at the top for you to check if you have any updated info.

TransportationWe offer a variety of programs that are not held at a Rolling Meadows Park District facility. Under each description in this brochure, it states as to where the program/event is held. Transportation for these programs is not provided, unless specified.

Code of ConductAll participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times while participating, spectating or attending any program or activity sponsored at the Rolling Meadows Park District. This includes participation in programs which may or may not require an admission fee, spectating at athletic events, concerts or attending special events. The following guidelines are designed to provide safe and enjoyable activities for all participants. Additional Codes of Conducts may apply for particular programs such as day camps, sports programming and athletic leagues. Participants/Parents shall:• Show respect to all participants, officials and program staff and/or

supervisors.• Take direction from program staff and/or supervisors.• Refrain from using abusive or foul language.• Refrain from causing bodily harm to self, other program

participants or program staff and/or supervisors. • Refrain from damaging equipment, supplies and facilities.

RecyclingYou may not see recycle containers in our facilities and parks, but please know that the waste management service we contract separates the recyclable material from the solid waste at their state-of-the art facility.

For Your Safety...The entrance/driveway into the Community Center is a “No Cell Phone Zone” while operating a motor vehicle. Many young children are dropped off at our preschool or use the playground near the entrance. Thank you for your cooperation.

Attention Parents/GuardiansListed below are several safety guidelines the Park District encourages parents/guardians to follow when dropping their child(ren) off at a Park District program.• Please escort children to and from the building, pool, field etc.• Please take child directly into class or activity area.• Please try to stay with child until the instructor arrives/begins the class. On occasion an instructor may encounter an emergency or an unexpected situation which causes them to be late or miss a class. If this occurs, the instructor notifies the program supervisor as quickly as possible and thesupervisor addresses the situation as quickly as possible.

Thor Guard Lightning Prediction System“A Proactive Solution for Lightning Safety”

Thor Guard operates 7 days per week, 8 am-11 pm from April thru November. A warning horn will sound a 15 second blast when a potentially dangerous weather situation is approach-ing. Clear the field immediately and seek proper shelter. Wait for the ALL CLEAR (3 short blasts). If no all clear signal sounds after 20 minutes please leave the program. This policy applies to all outdoor programming for youth and adults.Thorguard locations are: Nelson Sports Complex (audible at Community Center Parks)Rolling Meadows High School (audible at Park Central) Plum Grove Park (audible at Sunset Park) Kimball Hill Park (audible at Florey Park)
