Body Preparation
3MTM Purple Clean Sanding Discs P80-P120
Use 3MTM ImperialTM RolocTM 50 or 80 grit to remove paint/rust from low lying areas. Due to changes in today’s body constructions the right abrasive must be used for the respective body surface. Tip: Abrasives which have already been used on steel surfaces cannot be used for sanding aluminum surfaces. If done, contact corrosion with blistering will appear
Wash all panels with water and mild detergent. Dry and then wash with 541-5 or 700-10.

Different PPS™ sizes allow for on-demand mixing of the right amount of primer. By using PPS™ no additional mixing cup is required.
It reduces overall material consumption considerably by using the same pot for mixing and spraying.
Tip: Use the primer shade recommended by your paint manufacturer! PPS™ allows for quick changes between different primer shades.
Please observe the recommendations of your paint manufacturer concerning:

Pump spray bottle must be used to meet low VOC regulations
Cleaning of the surface2PPS™ allows for primer application from different angles without dripping.
Mix High build primer DP 236/DP237 at a ratio of 4:1:10% using appropriate hardener/reducer mixture for temperatures and humidity.
Apply three medium wet coats with a 5-10 minute flash between coatsNote: Always apply primer from the outside in as this in turn builds primer on the repair
Bake primer for 10-15 minutes with IRT lamp.
Primer application. 1st coat
4An advantage for the remainder of the process:
Less cleaning = Better gun care
Clean gun = Better primer coat
Better primer coat = Superior distribution of the primer
Even primer = Faster sanding of the primer
PPS™ In primer application 2nd coat5The shorter pot life of low-VOC primers requires an immediate cleaning of the gun.
PPS™ reduces cleaning work considerably and lowers your solvent consumption.
By reducing your solvent usage, the negative impacts of solvent on your health are also reduced.
Only a properly cleaned gun allows for a clean spray pattern and even primer application.

Clear coats need an adequate surface temperature to cure properly. Please observe the recommendations of your paint manufacturer.
The respective drying time and temperature depends very much on the system you use – therefore check the real surface temperature! A surface that appears well dried may only be half finished!

Hand sanding delivers good results, however, machine sanding with Trizact™ Clearcoat Sanding Discs creates a uniform surface which makes the subsequent polishing steps quicker and helps save time
Use Trizact™ discs P3000, followed by P5000, dampened with water.
Trizact™ refines sanding scratches from the previous process step. This reduces polishing time substantially
Buff to remove sand scratches completely For faster cut and less heat, use a 3M™ Perfect-it™ Wool Pad
To eliminate lint and achieve a finer finish, use 3MTM Perfect-It™ Foam Compounding Pad
Work a 2’x2’ area at a time - Suggested buffer speed: 1,200-2,000 rpm
Compound residue should be removed with a dedicated microfibre cloth to avoid creating new micro scratches.
To remove compound swirl marks use 3M™ Perfect-It™ Foam Polish Pad, using medium pressure
Polish to a high gloss using 3M™ Perfect-It™ Foam Polish Pad, applying light pressure - Suggested buffer speed: 1,200-2,000 rpm
Wipe with a yellow 3M™ Perfect-It™ Detail Cloth
Polish residue should be removed with a dedicated microfibre cloth to avoid creating new micro scratches.
DO NOT SKIP STEP 4

Apply aerosol adhesion promoter to the front side of the repair and allow to dry for 5 minutes. Mix and apply flexible filler with a “tight coat” followed by additional coats to fill in all low areas. Allow 15 minutes to cure at 24°C (75ºF).
Using a DA sander, finish sand the repair and the surrounding area using a P320 abrasive disc. Blow off and inspect the repair for quality. Repeat steps 5 and 6 as necessary. Apply adhesion promoter in preparation for primer surfacer application.

Clean the front and back of the repair area with soap and water, followed by a VOC compliant surface cleaner. Be sure to remove any overspray from the back side of the repair area. A Scotch-Brite™ scuffing pad may be used to assist with stubborn overspray.
Grind the front of the repair using a 3 in. grade 50 disc. Grind at a low speed creating a “Dish Out” area 3 in. wide that tapers to the bottom of the damage.
Sand the “Dish Out” area using a P80 abrasive disc on a DA sander, removing any melted plastic. Keep the P80 abrasive scratches within the “Dish Out” area. Using P180 abrasive, feather edge 2 to 4 in. from the “Dish Out” area.
NOTE: For reinforced procedure (i.e. crack in bumper), proceed to step 4. For cosmetic repair (i.e. no crack in bumper), proceed to step 5.
On the back side of the repair area apply the flexible patch adhesion promoter. Firmly apply the flexible reinforcement patch overlapping the damaged area by 1.5 in. on all sides of the repair.
DA sand the flexible filler material with a P180 abrasive disc.
OR
Block sand the repair area with a P180 abrasive sheet.
