Safe Arrival Program
One measure of keeping students safe is
ensuring students have safely arrived at
school. If your child is going to be late or
absent for any reason, it is important
that you contact the office immediately
and report the reason for the absence.
At the Toronto District School Board
(TDSB) we have an automated call-out
system that will attempt to contact you
if your child is late or absent on the day
where the school was not previously
informed.
We recognize that regular attendance
is essential to the safety, academic
success, and well-being of all students.
Thank you for your continued coopera-
tion to keep your child safe and ac-
counted for. Our Safe Arrival Telephone
Number is:

months to contribute $15.00 per child to the

Guidance Corner
The grade 8 students have been working diligently in their classes as well as with the Guidance department. The students have also had the opportunity to hear from Steven Leder, Coordinator of the MaCS ,(an enhanced Math and Computer Science) program at William Lyon Mackenzie CI about different options that students can choose from in High School. In class presentations will take place shortly in the grade 8 classes regarding the processes involved in moving from grade 8 to grade 9 and a reminder that the Par-ent Information Night for parents/guardians of grade 8 students to discuss this Transition will take place on Wednesday October 19, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. Every grade 8 student was given a flyer earlier this week with an invitation for you to attend this event. We hope to see you there. Each grade 8 student will be introduced to My Blueprint, (www.myblueprint.ca) an electronic educational resource tool by the end of next week so feel free to ask your child about the ac-tivities they have been doing with this program. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at the school or by Email [email protected] .

Dear RJ Lang Families,
On Monday November 7th 6:30pm - 7:45pm in our school library,
Sara Westbrook will be presenting "3 Habits Of Resilient Families".
Our amazing Parent Council is offering a presentation by "Hands
on Exotics" for the students of the families that are attending Sara
Westbrook's Presentation. Hands On Exotics is a unique
experience and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for your children
to meet exotic animals up close. Very hands-on, with opportunity
to touch and play with exotic animals and take unforgettable
pictures!

Diwali (short for Deepavali, meaning 'line of lamps'), also known as the Festival of Lights is a
Hindu, Sikh, and Jain festival that originated in India. It celebrates the triumph of good over evil
and light over darkness. Diwali also signifies many different things to different people. For most
Hindus, Diwali is dedicated to the Goddess of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
In Bengal, Diwali honours the goddess Kali. For Sikhs, the festival commemorates the return of
the sixth guru to the Holy city of Amritstar after his release from detention. For the Jain
community, it commemorates the passing into Nirvana of Mahavira. It also may be the
beginning of a new year for farmers who plant their crops after Diwali, as well as for business-
people and merchants who traditionally settle all accounts on this day and begin the new fi-
nancial year. Everywhere it is celebrated, it signifies the renewal of life.
To celebrate this joyous and important festival, people get together with friends and family,
exchange gifts of sweets and greet each other with the words 'Subh Diwali’. Some set off fire-
works and wear new clothes. Many light little clay lamps, called dipas or diyas, candles and
even neon lights.
