Bruce Traverse chosen ashonorary associate of the
year at Carson City HospitalCongratulations to Carson City Hospitals Honorary
Associate of the Year Bruce Traverse, FACHE, for-mer president and CEO. Traverse retired from the hos-pital he has been passionately devoted to for so many
years on Dec. 31, 2011. He was chosen to receive thishonor because of his more than 30 years of dedicationand commitment to the hospital and community. As-sociates at the hospital feel Bruce has always workedtowards what is best for hospital employees, patientsand the community as a whole, and they have beenconsistently inspired by Bruces commitment to excel-lence.
Sheridan Community Hospital (SCH) is part-nering with Michigan Rural Healthcare Preserva-tion (MRHP) and renowned neurosurgeons Dr.Tim Spencer,Dr. Gerald Schell, Dr. Naman Salibi,
and Dr. E. Malcolm Field to collaborate on a neu-rosurgery program to ensure the hospital contin-ues to thrive and that the local economies grow with it. The neurosurgery program, led by Dr.Spencer, and MRHP Medical Director, Dr. Field, isbuilt around minimally invasive spine proceduresthat are appropriate even for outpatient clinicalfacilities. It provides convenient access to care forpatients in an intimate hospital facility where pa-tient care and safety come rst.
Sheridan Community Hospital is the only facil-ity in west and central Michigan taking advantageof recent advancements in techniques for spinalsurgery. For the rst time ever, SCH is presentingspinal surgery and back-pain treatment in a newlight. Sheridan Hospital is a superb facility withexceptionally gifted and caring staff. We are incred-ibly pleased to provide such new and innovative,
minimally disruptive, minimally invasive, servicesto the local community, said Dr. Spencer.
Applying the most advanced surgical approach-es, and taking advantage of the leading endoscop-ic, laser-assisted, and microscopic techniques, thisnew surgical program emphasizes patient safety
and comfort while providing for the quickest re-covery and return to normal activities. At the sametime, this medical approach preserves normalbodily structures and ensures minimal blood lossand minimal time under anesthesia. The advance-ments in medical science and medical engineeringthat facilitate this program are truly remarkable.
Eighty percent of people will suffer from backpain at some point in their lives. For years, people who have suffered debilitating back pain weretold there is nothing that can be done; they wereinstructed to just live with it. This is no longertrue. The new neurosurgery program at SCH nowallows for many common back and spine issues tobe resolved quickly, effectively, and safely, at a lo-cal community hospital. The medical engineeringbuilt around this program ensures that the sameequipment used at the most advanced spine cen-
ters in the United States can now be found muchcloser to home at Sheridan Hospital.

LETTERS TO THE EDITORUnable to address
issues at boardmeeting
TO THE EDITOR:In last nights Reynolds Township
meeting I attempted to answer a letterI received from the Township Attorneyon behalf of the Board Members. Thisletter insinuated or accused me of thefollowing items. (1) I have been ambigu-ous and unclear, (2) I have used FOIA toharass Township Ofcials, monopolizetheir time and resources and engage inthe destructive practice of gotcha, (3)trying to monopolize Township Of-cials time in a total of 20 hours so theycan not do their normal duties, (4) thatIve been trying to dictate the scheduleof the Township Clerk or other Town-ship Ofcials, (5) that I have been rudeand abusive with Township Ofcials andstatements regarding past events or whatI claim I have been told by Township Of-cials have been distorted and erroneous,(6) I have been accused of unreimbursed
cost that I am causing the Township tohave incurred is not fair to all of the otherTownship taxpayers.
During the rst section of the pub-lic comments I started answering thecharges but was told my time was up and
was not allowed to continue. I dont be-lieve this has been imposed on any one inthe past, graciously another offered theirtime so I may continue answering but theSupervisor Keith Grannis denied this so Iwas not allowed to continue. During thesecond section under public commentsI wanted to continue answering thesecharges to the citizens of the Township but was told again by the Supervisor Iwas not allowed to speak.
I believe this shows the one sidedopinion of the Supervisor and BoardMembers when they will not allow me toanswer the charges or claims that theymade against me in front of the citizensof our community. You have to ask your-self why they do not want you to hear theother side so you can draw your own con-clusions.. For any one that is interested Iwill attempt once again to answer to thecitizens so you can hear for yourselves.Lets hope that the Supervisor and BoardMembers will allow me the time neces-sary to answer these charges at the Feb. 9meeting at 7 p.m. Hope to see you there.

No hidden agendasTO THE EDITOR:
It is with great hesitance that I writethis letter. I rmly believe that town-
ship business should not be conductedin the media. However, the systematicattack on township via this publicationhas prompted me to try to set the recordstraight. The negative letters to the edi-tor have been submitted by and for thosewho have violated the zoning ordinance.Ofcial documents including court re-cords regarding every complaint raisedare in the township ofce for anyone tosee. The zoning ordinance was adopted
by the people of Reynolds Township. That document is what dictates what isand what is not allowed. When a town-ship trustee is sworn into ofce theytake an oath to uphold the law. There isno provision to waive the laws when it would be easier to do so. If the zoningordinance was not evenly enforced in thepast, that does not relieve the currentzoning administrator and administrationfrom their statutory duties. Most of thenegative letters have been riddled withmisinformation. As Winston Churchillonce said A lie gets halfway around theworld before the truth has a chance to getits pants on. The recent personal attackson Pat DeJong and Keith Grannis are
grossly unfair. Keith has been a wonder-ful leader who is a life long resident andhas a long history of public service to thiscommunity. He and Pat have no hiddenagenda or ax to grind. It is my pleasure toserve with them both. They have integrity
and are serving the people of ReynoldsTownship well.

Proud of Keith
GrannisTO THE EDITOR:
I am writing in response to John Pow-ells letter to the editor that attacked KeitGrannis character and accused him of ly-ing. Keith Grannis is a lifelong resident oReynolds Township. Keith retired froTri County Schools as a respected aneffective teacher and coach. Keith dedi-cated himself to the students, parentsand staff of Tri County Schools for morthan thirty years. He is currently HowarCitys Assistant Fire Chief and has serveon the HCFD since the 1970s. Keith isalso a lieutenant of Montcalm CountEmergency Rescue Services, Rescue 2& 29. He has literally put his life on thline for the residents of Reynolds Town-ship. Keiths support of the communit
has always been fair, ethical, trustworthand above reproach. His body of worspeaks for itself. Our community shoulbe proud to have him represent us.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR POLICYLetters published in the River Valley Record-
Enterprise do not reect the overall opinion of thepaper. A letter to the editor may be written onceper month by any member of the community whowishes to express their view of a certain issue. Let-ters should be in good taste, be no longer than 500words, include the signature and home town of the

QUOTE OF THE WEEKHonesty may be the best policy, but its important
to remember that apparently, by elimination,
dishonesty is the second-best policy.

What does a Lakeview Wildcats fan namehis towing company? For Larry Cole, at Cen-tral Michigan Tire, the decision was easy. Andso Wildcat Towing opened to the public on Dec.14, 2011. Located on M-46 in Lakeview, WildcatTowing will be servicing Mecosta, Isabella andGratiot Counties as well as Montcalm. Cole, anavid Lakeview Wildcats fan and football coach, decided that it was only natural to purchase awrecker and bring vehicles into Central MichiganTire for servicing. Central Michigan Tire alreadyoffers uid delivery, winching, tire changing, lockout, battery service and more...so towing wasa logical addition. One truck will lead to more,Im sure, Cole said.
Cole is working to get Wildcat Towing ontothe list of tow trucks that are called by the coun-ties to respond to motor vehicle incidents wherea tow might be needed. Cole has also started ex-pansion plans for a secure impound lot at CentralMichigan Tire. Cole is excited about the new de-velopments he has implemented. Our goal is tohelp Central Michigan Tire and its relationshipwith its customers. We also want to continue ourpositive relationship with our community.
Dan Clark, formerly of Horsepower Automo-tive/Fast Track Towing, will be Wildcat Towingsdriver. Open 24/7, just call (989) 352-5757. Wildcat Towing will respond to your call andtake good care of you!

WINFIELD TOWNSHIPSpecial Meeting
December 14, 2011
Meeting called to order and opened with the Pledge by Supervisor Phyllis Larson.
Members present: Supervisor Phyllis Larson, Clerk Colleen Stebbins, Treasurer Cathy
Killinger and Trustee Dan Kanouse came at 7:14 p.m. and apologized for being late.
PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: Appoint Trustee and any other Township busi-
ness.
PUBLIC COMMENT: Opened at 7:06 p.m. Gregg Schuitema stated objections to
starting late and without presence of Dan Kanouse. Public comment closed at 7:09
p.m.PAYMENT OF BILLS: Motion by Cathy, second by Colleen to pay check numbers
9265 & 9266 for a total of $2,059.34, roll call: Cathy yes, Colleen yes, Phyllis yes,
motion passed.
Colleen reported talked with Allied Waste about dumpster at Amble Cemetery, there
will be no bill for December and next spring they will exchange the 6 yard dumpster
for a 4 yard at no extra cost.
Phyllis reported the Planning Commission will be having a Public Hearing January
23, 2012 at 7 p.m.
APPOINTMENT OF TRUSTEE:
Motion by Cathy to appoint Daniel Kinsey to fill remainder of Jim Radfords term as
trustee, no second, motion died.
Dan called for discussion and asked each one why they should be considered for posi-
tion of trustee.
Gregg Schitema stated, in his opinion the meetings needed to have objections and
negative votes. When questioned further, he was very argumentative (even cussing).
He was arguing with Board members about his past behavior as Fire Chief, not pre-
paring fire bills, not getting invoices to Clerk so they could be paid on time and atprevious meeting where he was removed via police.
He also stated that he had not accepted Assistant Fire Chief, as Fire Chief Bill Knapp
had not talked with him, just e-mailed his wife after the Boards December 8, 2011
meeting. Gregg complains he has to tell Bill when the fire meetings are as Bill forgets
or comes late. If appointed he would see that Dan Kanouse wouldnt be late to meet-
ings.
Daniel Kinsey stated that he is willing to serve in order to be of help to the Township,
if appointed.
Motion by Dan, second by Cathy to appoint Daniel Kinsey to Trustee for the remain-
der of Jim Radfords term of office, roll call: Dan yes, Colleen yes, Phyllis yes, Cathy
yes, motion passed.
Daniel is a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals, now he will be Boards repre-
sentative, so the ZBA will need a third person, there are two alternates who may wish
to be the third person.
ADJOURN: Motion by Dan, second by Colleen to adjourn at 7:34 p.m., voice vote,
motion passed.
Respectfully,Colleen Stebbins
