These instructions apply to the printing of Rittal packaging
boxes worldwide. They are binding for both in-house produc-
tion and purchased merchandise.
The specifications define which packaging box is to be used
as part of the product creation process.
If the existing box is modified, these Guidelines should be
adhered to.
As a general principle, all information on the box is written in
English.
Because we use a variety of different packaging formats,
there are various different templates which may be used for
positioning the individual, fixed elements.
The packaging type is determined by the size of unit that is
being packed.

Handling notices to
DIN EN ISO 780:
Graphical symbols give clear informa-
tion on handling of the packaging and
its contents (e.g. “Do not stack”, “Top”,
“Protect from damp” etc.). The sym-
bols used are defined by the Logistics
department in line with the product
specification. Any special handling
instructions should be clearly indicated
on the packaging.
Environmental information:
Refers to information on environmental
directives or laws which are met or
complied with by our products. The
information to be used is determined
by the relevant PM. The RESY symbol
should be displayed on boxes in ac-
cordance with the Labelling Guidelines.

The label size is determined by the
free space remaining on the front
of the packaging. DIN A9 to A5 - as
large as possible! Remember that:

Wording printed directly onto the box
is admissible. This uses a different
template than for labels (see below).
With very narrow packaging
the label or printed wording is on the

Separate lids/bases for
shrink wrapping:
The logo height is determined by the
height of the separate lid, whereby 1
free space is deducted for each side.
With these fitted lids, the printing (value
proposition and logo) must be moved
inwards accordingly, The Rittal logo is
printed on the separate lid.
The product label is centred on the
front of the film, and the shipping label
on the rear of the film, RESY symbol
on a concealed flap or on the cover
surface.
Here, the value proposition has dif-
ferent proportions (see light grey logo
dimensional units below).

2 Application 2.4. Variants
Updated: July 2016
Example
Variant 1:
Packaging size is larger than the
possible printing area
Rittal TS 8 enclosure as an example:
Unfolded, the packaging height is more
than 2 metres. The technically feasible
printing area is significantly smaller.
In such cases, the top and bottom
bands are eliminated, and the elements
from this zone are moved towards the
centre of the packaging.
The black band is always central
around all sides of the packaging and
the position of the logo. product labels
and other graphical elements is calcu-
lated from here (see light grey dimen-
sional units, right).
A print template is used for various
packaging heights, and is always
centred in the height of the front side.
The value proposition is centred in the
black band. The width is equivalent
to 2 logo heights.
The product labels are on the front,
centred underneath the logo and on
one side at the same height, because a
stabilising packaging strap is tensioned
vertically over the left and right side
sections.
These design guidelines also apply to
smaller TS 8 packaging, possibly with a
smaller logo and dimensional units.

Here, landscape format is used instead
of portrait format for the label height =

the top band may be reduced to 1 free

even with smaller boxes.

even with smaller boxes.

Variant 3:
Landscape formats
Here is an example with landscape-for-
mat A8 label – the positioning applies
proportionately to all sizes.
The logo height corresponds to the
product label height of A8 landscape.
With these types of very small side
heights, the logo is positioned with a
distance of just 1 free space below the
top edge.
If possible, a second product label is
positioned on one of the sides.
A second example with a portrait-for-
mat label.
Once again, the size of the logo and
arrangement of the elements are based
on the packaging types in the matrix.
Once again, the product label is
selected as large as possible and is
positioned flush with the logo at the top
(see point 2.1).

Product illustrations
For our high-end products, a product
illustration may be printed as a line
drawing that extends across the front
and side of the packaging.
It extends over the front and side.
The item code must never touch the
line drawing illustration. Where appli-
cable, the code description may be
moved upwards (here it is in line with
the bottom edge of the logo, a second
product label on the left side is not
shown).
