My classes at Ritsumeikan have been focused on the role of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) i n i n te r n a t i o n a l d eve l o p m e n t .

The academ ic env i ronment a t Ritsumeikan helps guide students in whatever direction they wish to go in and the professors and staff are there to support your efforts. Japan has been at the pinnacle of development and democratization in Asia and Ritsumeikan has trained many students who have contributed to this cause. Within my focus of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and development,

my studies in Kyoto have allowed me to understand the unique and distinct version of international aid which Japan provides throughout the world and specifically in ASEAN countries. As an international student, I f irmly believe that understanding othe r cu l tu res i s an impor tant f irst step to gain realistic cultural empathy. Traveling throughout the world in order to understand that there are different ways of viewing a

situation is imperative to promoting meaningful change. The students and faculty here are an amazing mix of people from diverse backgrounds. After graduating from Ritsumeikan I plan on working as an international commun icat ions manager a t a mu l t inat iona l o rgan izat ion and my exper iences at Ri tsumeikan have allowed me to gain valuable experience which will transfer to the workplace.

I se lected GSIR to advance my undergraduate studies regarding Japanese investment in Vietnam.

My research theme in Ritsumeikan was “Attracting FDI from Japan to Vietnam and implications for better policies on attracting FDI.” Now, I am work ing at KDDI Vietnam Corporation (a Japanese Company) and am in charge of tak ing PIC (Per ipheral Inter face Contro l le r ) to many companies around the world. This job gives me a chance to meet and communicate with many

Japanese customers. It requires writing skil ls in which I am quite confident, because of my education a t R i t sume i ka n . Wo r k i ng w i th many customers helps me grow as a person. I first realized this at Ritsumeikan when we were put into small groups for class discussions and p ro jec ts . Work ing c lose l y with people from different cultural backgrounds taught me to accept the differences of others.

My purpose of studying in Japan was not only to learn about investing, but also about Japan’s spirit, which resides in its culture and people. I learned about these things and so much more. My experiences at Ritsumeikan have not only been useful in my job, but also in my daily life.

Dual Master’s Degree Program: DMDP

The Graduate School of International Relations emphasizes not only theoretical study but also learning from the field. Our Graduate School has in ternsh ip agreements w i th va r ious corpora t ions , newspape r agenc ies and i n te r na t i ona l organizations, both inside and outside of Japan, where we send our graduate students as interns. Internship experience provides students with great opportunities to learn how these different corporations and organizations work, acquire on-the-job experiences, and cultivate practical skills. Having an opportunity to be exposed to organizational philosophy, students cultivate greater insight into their own career paths and research, along with developing the practical capabilities required for taking an active role in international business.

In addit ion, when students undertake overseas internships, they are expected to acquire a basic education that includes intercultural understanding through social life as a world citizen, and the practical language skills required as an advanced international professional.
