RISE Math Development Plan has been conceived and designed to strengthen the

academic quality of mathematics programming at Lake-Sumter State College.

LSSC Title III – Goals

The Grant is designed to increase student retention and degree completion by transforming the traditional math class to a new modularized, technologically enhanced

curricular approach that fully supports a more individualized learning modality.

The Grant is designed to facilitate partnerships to accelerate high school students to college-ready status, while providing them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to accelerate to dual enrollment

college credit math courses before high school graduation; thereby increasing first-time-in-college

(FTIC), at-risk students success rates in college credit math courses, retention, and degree completion.

Goal 2 - Summer Math Academy

RISE Summer Math Academy

• Partnership between LSSC and Sumter County School District

• Targets the “academic middle” after 10th and 11th grade in high school

• Accelerates students to college readiness in math and dual enrollment status (also prepares students for any remaining HS math)

• 12 day summer program (June 9-26, 2014)• Monday thru Thursday• 5 hours per day (9 am - 2 pm)

RISE Summer Math Academy Target Population

• Targets the “academic middle”

• Current 10th and 11th grade students that are NOT college ready in mathematics

Criteria used for “Academic Middle” Un-weighted grade point average 2.0 - 3.5 PERT Math score 96-113 SAT Math 380-430 PSAT Math 38 or above AVID* student ETS or CROP student***Advancement Via Individual Determination. RISE Summer Math Academy Completion Data

• 40 students attended at least one day

• 37 students received Certificate of Excellence

• 20 students scored a 114 or higher on PERT Math on day 11 or 12 of RISE

• 4 of the 20 students scored a 123 or higher on PERT Math (one with a score of 142)

• 8 students scored between 111-113 on the PERT Math

1) Begin RISE Summer Math Academy earlier in June

2) Decrease the length of the Pathbuilder or create two

3) Integrate the LSSC DE Admissions Application and required new student orientation into the academy
