! After WWI many European economies were unstable.
! As economies plummeted and unemployment rose, many people turned to powerful leaders and governments who promised success through military buildup and the conquest of territory.
• In Germany, depression, unemployment and hard times led to a dramatic increase in votes for Hitler and the Nazi Party.
• People were looking for help in desperate times.
• In 1932 the people chose the Nazi Party and Hitler to help them.

German Expansion – Hitler's ideas Hitler had 2 main ideas: 1. Anschluss (union) Unite all people of German nationality 2. Lebensraum (living space) Create a German empire Following these ideas he begins to expand Hitler demanded that Austria form a political alliance with Germany. 1938 Leader refused and Hitler marches his troops in and took over. 1938 Hitler demands the Sudetenland – an industrial region of Czech. Which had a large
German population. 1938 At the Munich Pact the leaders of France and Britain agreed to Hitler’s demands if he
did not do anything else.1938 Hitler got the Sudetenland. After taking the rest of Czech Germany he worried about the Soviet Union and
signed a Non Aggression Pact with the Soviet Union, in it they agreement to divide Poland in half. 1939
One week later Hitler invades Poland and the war begins.1939
