The Manager’s Welcome

Dear All,

Happy New Year!

We ended 2019 with an unannounced CQC

inspection. We were delighted with their initial feed-

back and we are stepping into 2020 with confidence

and pride, knowing that the report will be the best

testimony of our Team’s effort and your support in

making Ridgeway Rise a safe, caring and happy home

for our Residents.

CQC Inspection

The Care Quality Commission is an executive non-departmental public body of

the Department of Health and Social Care of the United Kingdom. It was estab-

lished in 2009 to regulate and inspect health and social care services in England.

We received our second visit on 18th December. Everyone worked very hard to

improve the service provided at Ridgeway Rise and evidence, what a great, safe

and friendly place it is. The same day, General Manager received the initial

feedback from the inspectors:

“Effective systems in place to ensure

equipment and environments is safe

and well maintained”

“Staff feel supported and receive train-

ing to ensure they have the skills and

knowledge to meet people’s needs”

“Care Plans contained

information about people’s life

histories and were personalised to

ensure needs were met.”

“Staff treated people as individuals

and used their knowledge of people to

interact and engage people in mean-

ingful conversations”

“There had been a wide variety of

events taking place that people had

clearly enjoyed”

Christmas Market 2019

On Saturday 7th of December Ridgeway Rise treated the residents and

neighbours to an afternoon full of festive merriment. Visitors had an

opportunity to join ‘real Santa’ in his sleigh. We had games and colourful

stalls offering Christmas decorations, jewellery, gifts and pets’ accessories.

Chef Jo in his typical gleeful manner served delicious hot-dogs, we weren't

short of mince pies and (non-alcoholic) mulled wine either.

Christmas Extravaganza

Tickled Pink Productions put us all in a Christmas mood with their

amazing performance. We sang and we danced and jingled the bells

spreading the festive joy.

At our Christmas Market we had a competition for the best Christmas Jumper.

We saw many guests presenting their best festive outfits but the unquestionable

winners were:

School Choir

Abbey Meads Community Primary School Choir delighted us with

their amazing singing. We were surprised to hear so many new and less

popular Christmas songs. Pupils did a great job making sure their voices

were loud enough for everyone to hear. They left our residents still

carrying on with good old Jingle Bells.

Human Rights Day

To mark the Human Rights Day 2019 residents told their stories of what

they used to do throughout their lives. We learned few things about

building aircrafts, playing violin and hairdressing. We also made a list of

our rights.

Fundraising

We raised £490 at the Christmas Market, which allowed us to purchase a

tablet for our Activities Department . Our guests indulged with some

homemade mince pies, enjoyed our games and challenges and of course

our famous Tombola. Thank you for all contributions!
