Rider Levett Bucknall is a global practice of consultants with a commitment to delivering high quality outcomes through advice focused on cost, quality and sustainability within property, infrastructure, construction and facilities. Our primary role is to provide information and advice on ways of controlling, monitoring and reducing the cost and construction time on all types of buildings and civil engineering projects.

Our objective is to provide independent and unbiased advice on all matters of financial and time control on construction projects. Our primary function is to protect our client’s interest but we also ensure that we maintain satisfactory contractual relationship among all parties to the construction contract.

We aim to provide the highest possible standard of professional service to our clients, to utilise the latest and most efficient technical methods and procedures and to initiate and introduce new methods wherever possible, including our investment in Building Information Modeling and the development of software to increase efficiency in contract documentation and cost and time control.

Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre, Sydney, AustraliaBankstown Library and Knowledge Centre is a key urban redevelopment project in this southwestern Sydney city of Bankstown. A creative adaptation of the former Bankstown Town Hall, it is conceived as a public space for the encouragement of intellectual, creative and social exchange.

The centre includes a new three-level library, the 300-seat Brian Brown Theatre, community conference facilities, cafe and interactive community information wall. Surrounding public domain improvements include the redevelopment of Paul Keating Park, a new aquatic sculpture garden, new street trees and landscape, upgraded and new accessible amenities, all-weather accessible bus drop-off zone, bicycle parking and upgraded off-street car parking facilities.

Centre 66, Wuxi, ChinaLocated in the central business district of Wuxi, Centre 66 consists of the city’s largest shopping mall and Grade-A office towers. Total gross floor area is 262,725 square meters. Running along Zhongshan Lu and Renmin Zhong Lu, the new metro lines one and two will intersect beneath the development. The project achieved LEED Gold certification. Two theatre stages as well as a hall dating from the Ming Dynasty (circa AD 1369) located at the heart of the site have been restored and integrated into a public plaza.

Chris O’Brien Lifehouse at RPA, Sydney, AustraliaThe Chris O’Brien Lifehouse at RPA is a world-class cancer treatment and research facility providing integrated care to patients and carers. The project is located in the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital - Sydney University Precinct in Camperdown Sydney. Lifehouse integrates clinical care, research and education creating opportunities for innovative discoveries, compassionate holistic care and better outcomes for patients.

With a total project budget of $230 million, the 45,000-square metre facility houses ambulatory clinics, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, operating theatres, intensive care unit, day surgery, integrative medicine, dry research, imaging facilities, pathology collection and offices.

Services: Rider Levett Bucknall was appointed to provide Cost Management services for Stage 1 from concept design phase through to completion of construction. Working with Capital Insight and Rice Daubney, the firm successfully kept the project within budget through the concept design, scheme design and design development phases.

Holiday Inn Express Clarke Quay, SingaporeThe new Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay is located minutes away from the Central Business District and Clarke Quay and offers accessibility to Singapore’s major attractions. Located near the mouth of the Singapore River, the hotel features 442 guestrooms with supporting facilities.

Jockey Club Innovation Tower, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong KongConstruction of a 15-storey building, which houses the School of Design for the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation. Facilities include a lecture hall, 10 classrooms, design studios and workshops, offices, a design museum, exhibition galleries and a common viewing lounge.

The tower has a construction floor area of 27,500 square metres and is designed to maximise space within a constrained site. Its unique façade features a curved profile curtain wall system.

Liberty Place, Sydney, AustraliaFollowing a “Design Excellence Competition” in 2002, architecture firm FJMT were awarded the brief to design and document Liberty Place, a multipurpose public, corporate and hospitality development in Sydney’s CBD. An amalgamation of five sites, the development includes a premium Grade 44-storey commercial tower, a penthouse apartment, a retail space centred around a new plaza, a pedestrian lane, refurbishment and additions to heritage-listed Legion House and a new three storey office building known as 167 Castlereagh Street.

The development succeeds in carving out a major new public space, reinvigorating a previously run down area of the city and bringing together a significant sequence of refurbished heritage buildings, public open space and streetscapes into a cohesive environment.

Services: Rider Levett Bucknall was appointed by LaSalle Investment Management (LIM) to undertake a design due diligence review prior to them becoming a stakeholder in the development. Rider Levett Bucknall was subsequently appointed in a client representative role during the early stages of construction. This role also involved attendance at design review meetings for various disciplines during design / documentation phase.

Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Shenzhen, ChinaThe new headquarters for the Shenzhen Stock Exchange - a skyscraper with a skirt - is located in Shenzhen’s Central Business District. The 254-metre-high building features a three-storey podium elevated 36 meters above the ground. The Shenzhen Stock Exchange contains offices, research areas, training facilities, an exhibition and convention centre, a virtual trading floor, public spaces and outdoor areas. The total construction area is approximately 265,000 square metres.

Singapore Sports Hub, SingaporeThe Singapore Sports Hub is one of the world’s largest sports facilities infrastructure Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) projects comprising elite sports, leisure, entertainment, community and commercial facilities.

Located on a 35 hectare site next to the city centre, the Sports Hub will comprise a 55,000-capacity National Stadium; 6,000-capacity indoor Aquatic Centre; 3,000-capacity Multi-Purpose Indoor Arena; Water Sports Centre featuring dragon boating, kayaking and canoeing; 41,000 square metre retail and waterfront; the Singapore Indoor Stadium; Sports Museum; Sports Library; and daily community facilities and activities.

The project won the future projects category for leisure at the 2013 World Architecture Festival and the 2012 Singapore Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Green Mark GoldPlus Award.

Sustainable Industries Education Centre (SIEC), Adelaide, AustraliaSustainable Industries Education Centre is a unique example of sustainable construction transforming a car manufacturing plant into a 45,000 square metre world-class, energy efficient, training facility.

The centre is one of the most innovative and advanced in Australia, combining building, construction and renewable energy trades to promote collaboration.

Ninety per cent of the existing steel structure was retained for the new facility, with exposed services and minimal internal applied finishes supporting the building’s role as a learning tool. Energy efficiencies include chilled beams, under floor heating and 750,000 litres of rain storage.
