Hello everyone! As I write this letter I am getting ready for a Halloween and birthday party for my father. This is a special day for my family be-cause everyone gets together for chili, candy, birthday gifts, costumes, and handing out candy. All the children are grown up, but the adults are still trying to! It’s on Saturday this year so it gives us all time to enjoy the holiday. I hope everyone is in the spirit and have plans for a good time with family and friends. Maybe in the future we could plan a chapter cos-tume party. I think that would be a lot of fun. I know this group would come up with some great and original disguises that we would talk about for a long time.
I want to thank Debbie and Dennis Juncker for hosting another suc-cessful Clay pigeon shoot on October 11. It was a lot fun, and the food was great! I want to thank everyone who showed up to represent Chap-ter O at the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival Parade. We had a large num-ber of bikes decorated in red, white, and blue. Uncle (Aunt) Sam even rode along. Never been more proud to wear my black and gold chapter colors! Also, a big thanks to Charles and Kathy Friedman for a great ride through Tennessee. Rides like that take a lot of time and effort to plan. We had sixteen bikes and one car. It was a great success.
Even though this riding season is coming to an end, we still have a few great events to look forward to before the end of the year. On November 8 is our chapter gathering. On December 5 is our Christmas party. At the November gathering we will discuss any suggestions for making this Christmas party one to remember. So please bring your ideas.
I hope to see everyone at the gathering on the 8th.

Directors 16 bikes in a parade? Looking forward to next Saturday, when everyone celebrates my birthday with a big party, but not looking forward to losing daylight saving time and less bike riding time. We have had a beautiful fall riding season! A fine example of that was "the ride-to-ride” weekend. Thirteen bikes and one car made the very enjoyable trip to Dickson Tennessee. Charles and Kathy Friedman did an excellent job of planning the entire weekend. It's always amazing to me how they find such perfect motorcycle roads. The ladies of the chapter had a domino tournament going (playing by chapter O rules only). I'm sure this will be contin-ued at a later date...stay tuned. Note: Seems as though Charles has learned his left from his right. We only had one "get-about" the entire weekend. Betty & Ed Schreiner Asst Chapter Director

Rider Educator To All Members and Members to be,
Fall is here and the leaves have changed and nature’s beauty is all around
us. It is a beautiful time to get out and enjoy what is left of the riding season on
those two and three wheel machines we love to travel on. But with that beauty
there are dangers lurking all around us in every mile that we travel.
Take time to plan your fall travels to make sure they are the best they have
ever been. Don’t take for granted that shortcut you took by not preparing your-
self for those journeys will come without some type of memory that can spoil
your plans and others.
Prepare your rides carefully by letting people know of your travel plans so it
will take some of the worry from the ones who care about you as you travel.
Make sure your routes are planned ahead and check before leaving to see if
there are detours that might have changed your route since the weather does
change road conditions.
When riding those beautiful back country roads do not think for a moment
you are the only one out there sharing these special moments. Be ready when
you come up over that hill or around that curve or come to an intersection that
there might be something there that could ruin your perfect trip.
Obstacles such as tree limbs, wet leaves, loose gravel, animals, or maybe
another motorist stopping in a place to take a picture and not taking into
consideration that they are not the only one traveling the roads and enjoying
what mother nature has brought for us to enjoy.
I hope as you do that your trips are enjoyable and worry free. Planning is such
a big part of this and being mentally ready for what comes at you unexpectedly. I
use the (what if) when I travel and I would recommend this to everyone that is
traveling whether it is on two, three, or four wheels.
Ride Safe so we can meet again,

Motorcycle breakdown? Many of us have had this happen. Friends come to the rescue but to repair the problem requires more than roadside assistance. Many helpful suggestions come forth. What to do? Think. Many phone calls made. Final decision - haul the bike home and repair it later. After many calls to UHAUL dealers (Saturday afternoon - some closed or closing soon. All say come here and pick it up! How can we when we have no transportation?) Finally a kind owner of a UHAUL dealer 11 miles away offers to pick us up. Thank you kind sir! He picked us up in a shiny Cadillac. Drove those narrow mountain roads very, very fast. Commented how often he has to have brake servicing and how often he has to trade in for a new one. Got there safe and quick! UHAUL truck was big enough for trike and trailer. Problem-small narrow ramp vs. big wide trike? Solution: Buy lumber for ramps on sides. Good plan but side ramps sagged and muffler dragged on the center ramp. Solution? God answered many prayers by sending 3 young strong men to help load the bike. Never doubt the power of prayer! Never give up!

Second Gathering Guest: Ron and Debbie Weis
Vern discussed being prepared for the Ride to Ride ride. Prepare your bike. Play the what if game: Will there be
loose gravel, farm equipment, tree limbs down? Watch out for 4 wheelers not paying attention to the roads who
might be looking at the leaves or October decorations. Last, but not least, is to always ride your own ride.
Time change is coming up next month on November 1st.
The above and beyond award this month went to Charles and Charlie for helping John in Maggie Valley with his
bike when it broke down and Dan and Cathy for sharing their bikes with Becky on the Maggie Valley trip.
Bobby Downs was given the Golden Chicken award for mentioning the “R” word just before a thunder cloud
opened up on the group. O’l Chief Thunder Cloud struck again.
Becky won the Candy Jar with her on the nose guess of 99.
November 14th the chapter is riding to Kelsey G’s for dinner.
Paul and Jane will be in Florida living it up during our Christmas Party so they gave away their Biker Bucks to the
winner of the “Heads or Tails” game. Richard was the winner.

A happy fall to all members: Betty and I attended & rode with Don Abernathy, to a gathering at Deaconess Hospital oncology center in Gateway. We participated in the first "Ride To Celebrate Prostate Can-cer survivors." Seventy five members attended. I am a four year survivor and Don Abernathy is a ten year survivor. We participated in the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, sponsored by TRI State VIN And Deaconess Cancer Services. Our police escorted ride around the city for two hours was awesome. We finished up the ride at the Evansville museum. At this point Betty & I went home. We are also invited to a special showing of the video; taken by photographers as we rode thru the city. It will be shown on the screen at the Evansville Museum of Arts on Oc-tober 15 , 6 PM to 7 Pm. This is a free event, but seating is limited. Recommend getting there early. Ed & Betty Schreiner

How to Really Celebrate an Anniversary
Most of you know by now, Charles and I celebrated our 40th anniversary in October. Like most couples who work, if our anniversary was during the week, we would wish each other a “Happy Anniversary,” give a quick kiss and be on our way to work. With this being our 40th Anniversary, and on a Sunday I wanted to do something special. I wanted the Chapter to be a part of it. We planned on meeting for breakfast at Shoney’s in Henderson and leaving around 9am. Charles and I were expecting maybe 16 people (including the two of us). Imagine our surprise when there were a total of 13 bikes and one car. Even though it was cool (alright cold) the sun was shining and we were all excited and ready to go. Charles lead us down the back roads of Kentucky for a couple of hours with a lunch break near Fort Campbell. Shortly after lunch we found ourselves on the beautiful backroads of Tennessee. Just when we thought the day could not get any better, we surprised everyone with a short ferry ride across the Cumberland River. It was a beautiful sight to see 13 wings and 1 car on the ferry. I am sure it gave the people who run the ferry something to talk about for a couple of days. Although the leaves had not begun to change colors, we enjoyed the twisty, curvy roads . We arrived at our destination of Dickson, Tennessee in plenty of time to check in and relax before we walked to Ruby Tuesday for dinner. The real fun began when we got back to the motel after dinner. The motel had a large indoor heated pool with plenty of chairs around it. Some of the members did take advantage of the pool, while others sat around and talked. Some of the girls enjoying a heated game of dominos, played using the Chapter O Rules. I have never laughed so much in my life! Bev claimed she had never played dominos, but I think she is really a domino hustler because she won most of the games. I do not want to say that we were sore losers, but we did make her sit out one round! It was all in fun. Sunday morning came all too soon. After a quick bite to eat we were on the bikes and ready to head home. We took back roads out of Dickson recommended by one of the residents. The route looped around Dickson several times on the different roads without actually going back into the town. After lunch, we took the interstate home. Charles and I knew we had planned a great ride when heard more than one person say they were not ready to go home. We would like to say “Thank You” to everyone in the Chapter who made our anniversary such a great day.
