PEN NO. Small Wooden Pens 1 – 60 P A C & H E Cother, Fylingdales
The decision to dispose of Tony & Betty Cother’s breeding sheep
flock has been brought about entirely due to their retirement from
active farming. All of the sheep on offer are Lleyn X ewes and they
have been crossed back to the Meatlink, Beltex or Berrichon Tups.
All flock replacements have been homebred. The breakdown of the
flock is approximately:-
48 shearlings
60 2 shears
174 3-5 shears
20 Aged but correct ewes
All ewes (apart from 20 shearlings) lambed this time from the 17th
March onwards all to the Meatlink, Beltex or Berrichon tup. Lambs
were weaned in the first week of August and the ewes have been run
on fully organic lines with no supplementary feeding until after
Christmas each year. They were treated with a pour on for blow fly
between the 7th and 9
th July and were all wormed at lambing time.
The usual lambing percentage for recent years has been
approximately 185%.
The flock has been split between Colcroft Farm at Fylingdales which
carries the gimmer lambs and older ewes with the majority of the
breeding sheep being run on cliff land over-looking the North sea at
Ravenscar. The ewes have summered well and are all in good
condition being strong framed heavy sheep which breed an excellent
lamb confirmation. The ewes are highly recommended by the
Auctioneers to do well wherever they go. Prior inspection of the
flock can be made at any reasonable time by contacting Tony Cother
on 01947 880259.
