Holocaust Study Institute 2013 CourseClass Sessions: Tuesday evenings 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Jan. 15 through Apr. 30 (no classes on Feb. 12, 26, Mar. 24)

Location:Sacred Heart School of Theology 7335 S. Highway 100, Franklin, Wis.

The course will help students to:• Identify the historical and theological underpinnings

of anti-Semitism that influenced Nazi ideology and led to the Holocaust

• Understand the growth of anti-Judaism from early Christianity to its development as the seed bed of a virulent anti-Semitism in the 19th Century and its manifestation in Nazi ideology and practice.

• Examine Jewish life in Europe before the Holocaust, the Nazi rise to power and the beginning phases of the war against the Jews.

• Explore the development of the Final Solution and its implementation.

• Consider perspectives of resistance and rescue.• Discuss the challenges of post-Holocaust theology and

examine a variety of Holocaust education strategies.

“Catholics, Nazis, Jews:  The Complexity of History” featuring Fr. Kevin Spicer, CSC, Ph.D.Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart School of Theology, 7335 S. Highway 100, Franklin, Wis.

14 Day Trip to IsraelTentative travel dates: July 29 – Aug. 11, 2013

Study at Yad Vashem—the World Holocaust Center:• Study and experience the history of the Holocaust

in the preeminent museum of the world devoted to memorializing and explaining the Holocaust.

• Visit the Ghetto Fighters Museum and spend a day at the Shalom Hartman Institute.

• Experience the modern State of Israel with all of its positive challenges and complexities.

• Visit the actual places and learn about the events that shaped the Jewish and Christian faiths.

Cost of the trip: To be determined in January.
