Society (re-named Global Poverty Action Fund). Responsible for screening proposals for funding and quality assurance of assessors’ work.

Monitoring and Evaluation 2009 Global (Responding to Conflict & Skillshare International). Evaluation of

DFID-funded peace building programme across Africa, Asia and Latin America.

2005-2007 Global (Action by Churches Together). Team leader to review and assess humanitarian relief networks in Burundi, Mozambique, Malawi, Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Co-wrote synthesis report.

2005 Rwanda/Congo (SCIAF). Review and verification of self-evaluations for three Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund projects in Rwanda and DRCongo on issues of HIV/AIDS and peace building.

2004 Burundi (DFID). Evaluation of ActionAid’s integrated rights based approach to conflict prevention and response in Burundi.

Aid Effectiveness 2010 Global (Christian Aid). Synthesis of Christian Aid’s strategic information

covering areas of livelihoods and climate change, economic justice, accountable governance, HIV, social movements and organisational development.

2008-2010 Programme & Project Management Adviser at FCO (part-time consultant). Providing advice and support to programme funding teams to ensure that programme spend is aligned with strategic priorities and delivers value for money; and helping to build capacity and understanding of programme and project management skills within the FCO.

Social Development 2004-2005 Global (Fauna & Flora International / Vodafone Foundation). Co-manager

for a Vodafone-funded project looking into the application of mobile phones and other information technologies in sustainable development and conservation especially in southern Africa for Fauna & Flora International. Co-wrote two published reports on the application of mobile phone technology in development and conservation, and the coltan industry in DRCongo.

1992-1999 Global (Christian Aid). Programme funding manager and support officer for development projects in a range of development areas including informal education, HIV/AIDS, peace building and conflict resolution, micro-finance, capacity building and food security.

Governance and Fragile States 2010 Africa (DFID, FCO, MOD). Team leader for review of cross-government Africa

Conflict Prevention Programme. Consultancy involved managing a team of three other experts in Africa peace and conflict issues and value for money, conducting document review and interviews of government officials, presentation and report writing.

2009-2010 Global (DFID: £130 million Governance and Transparency Fund). Impact and learning adviser including writing learning paper on tools, methods and approaches. Performance assessment and learning across a portfolio of 38 projects around the world in all aspects of governance (anti-corruption, decentralisation, access to services, justice and human rights, gender and participation in government decision making). Co-facilitated global workshop on lesson learning.

2009 Africa (Comic Relief). Conducted impact study on conflict for Comic Relief, looking at the areas of education, rights and livelihoods, and in particular youth empowerment in post-conflict environments.

2007-2008 Global (Special Adviser to the Secretary of State for Defence). Providing advice to the Secretary of State, other Defence ministers and MPs on operational issues (esp. 2006 Burundi (DFID). Review of DFID-funded peace building project on leadership training of political leaders and political parties, security sector apparatus and civil society.

2005 Burundi (DFID). Evaluation of a portfolio of peace building and conflict resolution projects in Burundi, provided a conflict analysis and helped to develop DFID’s peace building strategy for the country.

2004 Central Africa (CARE). Facilitator and expert to plan CARE International’s programme for good environmental governance and peace building in the Great Lakes Region of Africa. Provided conflict situation analysis.

2004 Central Africa (CAFOD). Assessment of peace building and conflict resolution work for CAFOD in Burundi, DRCongo and Rwanda. Included a situation analysis.

2002 Democratic Republic of Congo (All Party Parliamentary Group). Research and report on the humanitarian and environmental impact of illegal and illicit resource exploitation in the DRCongo for the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Great Lakes and Prevention of Genocide.

2001-02 Global (International Alert). Programme funding officer and adviser on a wide range of conflict-related applications including peace building in Central Africa, women and peace building, and conflict prevention in Eurasia.

1999-01 Central Africa (Christian Aid). Managed a £5m annual programme and a team of up to 30 staff in Burundi, DRCongo and Rwanda. Lead role in advocacy for peace and conflict resolution on the region in UK and European networks.
