This spring semester has been chock full of concerts, brand new arrangements, officer transitions, senior send-offs, and our tour in the northeast. We are so appreciative and thankful for your help in reaching our fundraising goal that made our spring break tour a success. Your overwhelmingly generous support gave us the opportunity to spread awareness about Rice and the Phils and make memories to last a lifetime! We performed for students ranging from 5 to 18 years old and put on joint a cappella concerts with Fordham University and the College of Mount St. Vincent in New York and with ensembles at American University in Washington, D.C. Facing the bitter cold and snow (yes – snow!), we went sight-seeing in New York City and Washington, D.C., and even saw the musical Once on Broadway! Because of your selfless giving, we not only grew closer as a group, but also showed off some of the best collegiate a cappella Texas has to offer. On campus, we performed in three concerts, debuting brand new songs and some groovy dance moves! We got the crowd moving at our Owl Days Concert with the hit song “Happy , ” exuded our girl power with a mash-up of “Brave” and “Roar” at Acappellooza, and embraced our inner love for Disney with “Let It Go ” at our All- Request Concert. Around Valentine’s Day, we made students blush in classrooms, college commons, and all across campus with our Singing Valentines, which are short songs we perform in quartets for students, from students (secret admirers included!) for a nominal fee. We even serenaded President Leebron himself! This entire year has been one for the books. In addition to our

The Rice PhilharmonicsAlumni Newsletter

Summer 2014

Our beloved Phils alumni,

What an exciting and memorable year we’ve had!

We got the crowd moving at our Owl Days Concert with the hit song “Happy , ” exuded our girl power with a mash-up of “Brave” and “Roar” at Acappellooza, and embraced our inner love for Disney with “Let It Go” at our All-Request Concert.

In addition to our tour, we released a CD in the fall, “(Phil)osophy,” which three generations of Phils poured love and hard work into. To purchase a physical copy, you can visit our website. You can also buy it on iTunes!

While we are enormously proud of our accomplishments in 2013-2014, we cannot wait for next year! We are celebrating the Phils’ 20th Anniversary! Make sure to mark your calendar for homecoming weekend, November 7-9, as our annual homecoming concert will be extra-special this year to welcome back 20 years’ worth of alumni and reconnect over musical memories, shared songs, and old friendships. On that note, keep your eyes out for another e-mail from me to update our alumni database. We want to have everyone’s current information so that you can receive updates about our 20th

anniversary homecoming concert and celebration!

As you browse the rest of this newsletter, you’ll find an update on our seniors (who will

actually have graduated by the time this newsletter is sent out!). We are losing five crucial and wonderful singers who molded this club into the established and highly regarded ensemble it is known as today. Their handprints on everything from our music to our group dynamic changed the Phils for the better.

You will also find an update on our new club officers and pictures from the spring semester and spring break tour. As always, I would love to hear from you about your experience with the Phils or even chat about the direction the club is moving in! We have some exciting things lined up for next year, and I can’t wait to share them with you in the next newsletter. Have a great day!

Sincerely,Molly MohrPresident 2014-2015
