Ricardo have a complete suite of Gear Shift Quality hardware and software tools for transmission analysis and development. From basic synchroniser design software through to complete shift system and driveline modelling and gear shift durability test rig software, the GSQA Manual system is one part of this suite. The GSQA system transforms gearshift quality measurement from traditional subjective rating assessment to objective measure characterisation.

Creating a world fit for the future

Acquisition – Gearshift Data Acquisition Software (GDAS)The Ricardo GSQA data acquisition system has been developed using the proprietary software MATLAB for execution on Windows PC. The menu-driven GUI ensures that no knowledge of this is needed to operate the GSQA system to acquire and analyse data. The main analogue signals are; - 3x Gear knob forces (X,Y,Z) - 3x Gear knob travel (X,Y,Z) - 2x Speed (transmission input / output) - 2x Temperature (ambient / transmission oil)Additional analogue or digital signals can be added for additional relevant data for analysis. Acquisition rate can be set between 100 Hz and 25 kHz.

Analysis – Objective Gearshift Analysis Software (OGAS)The OGAS package has been designed to function specifically with GDAS but will import and analyse data from text files, GSQA AUDIT, Test Rig and Dynamic Modelling software. OGAS imports the acquired data, allowing user verification, data analysis and generation of gearshift quality objective measures.

The main features of OGAS are;H-Gate Plots Mapping the shift pattern in the shift plane (X/Y travel). Shift plane data is plotted against colour contours of applied force and identifies in-gear voids, limits and compliance.H-Dot and H-Loci Enables visualisation of the static and dynamic shifts in the shift plane. ‘H-Dot’ highlights shifts start and end points and ‘H-Loci’ shows the path taken for each shift.Cross-Gate Cross-gate plotting is based on left-right sweeps across the neutral plane. The analysis defines the physical dimensions, the bias loads/unloads, compliance and stiffness of the cross-gate.Mean Shift Forces For each shift type the force vs travel data is averaged allowing comparison between static and dynamic shifts. System variation, shift forces and confidence bands are interpreted from this data.Duty Cycle Using GPS this allows the user to study the time and percentage in each gear, and plot relevant informationMeasures These offer objective metrics by which to categorise and specify shift effort, shift definition, shift feel and more. Examples of the 50 metrics included are below; Synchronisation impulse, maximum sync force, mean sync force, maximum 2nd load force, maximum effort in X/Y/Z, total shift travel, double bump/sync force ratio, time blocking release integral, free flight time, blocking release time, lubricant temperature, total shift work, total sync power
