International masterplanning is embracingmore adaptable and inclusive principles as it responds to the ever-growing demands of urban growth and the quest forsustainable solutions. Beyond The Glass Room: The Many Lives of the Villa TugendhatThe Docomomo Lecture 2012Tuesday 3 July, 18.30

The Villa Tugendhat designed by Mies van der Rohe in1928–1930, is one of the finest examples of Modernism in Europe. The building is now once again set to become a major cultural destination after 72 years of enduring thevagaries of climate, politics and changing functions. Thistalk celebrates the life of the Villa and, with the architects,historians and curators who took part in the recentlycompleted restoration, explores the process behindbringing this icon back to life.A DoCoMoMo UK, RIBA event in collaboration with Czech Centre.

Reiulf Ramstad Architects and Jensen & Skodvin Architectsare two of the most high-profile and innovative practicesbased in Norway. This exhibition explores their work,highlighting rural contemporary Norwegian architecturethrough the National Tourist Routes in Norway scheme. Aselection of Tourist Routes projects – completed across thecountry – are displayed by each practice, in addition to arange of other buildings that have been undertaken,including housing and public works.

Discover the design stories behind the venues and interventions ofLondon 2012. A unique collection of films, images, models and a new 14-metre mural reveal the thinking and design flourish shaping London’snewest architectural landmarks. The audio visual installation turns overto a live screening lounge at the start of the games with a rollingdaytime programme of sporting events available to view.

This exhibition explores how celebratory events – Olympics, millennia,world fairs, victories in battle – have often left a legacy through thestructures built for them. Drawing on the RIBA’s Collections, it examinesthat legacy and the lasting social and urban impact of buildings createdto celebrate a particular moment in time.

The London Festival ofArchitecture (23 June–8 July)with its theme of ‘ThePlayful City’ brings architectsand communities togetheracross the capital.

Using wireless technology, designersTroika, who have had work displayedat the V&A and Design Museum, arecreating a light installation inspired

by the everyday symbols used fordescribing the weather forecast, a theme that’s echoed by TheWeather Yesterday, a tongue-in-cheekand ever-changing illuminated tributeto the British pastime of talking aboutthe weather.

Senior Design Manager Simon Kentoffers a unique insight into the worldof LEGO, taking you through thedesign processes using the LEGOCreator house design direct modularbuilding, and world building designmodels.
